rstunger Posted February 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2015 I have always tipped when getting room service/morning continental breakfast, but always wondered what the proper amount should be. How much do most people tip for room service on their cruise? Silly question, I know. 😬
navybankerteacher Posted February 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2015 We always have fruit juice and coffee at about 7:00AM, and give a $2 tip. We hardly ever have other room service deliveries - but would probably give $5 - unless it was a full dinner, then maybe $10 -- which is about what we would tip at restaurant when the bill came to about $60-$70. dolittle Posted February 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2015 We always do 2 dollars for a pot of coffee or a sandwich I would give a little more for a full meal .

How much do most people tip for room service on their cruise? Silly question, I know. 😬 $1-3 for a pot of coffee and basic continental breakfast. $3-5 for a full/hot breakfast for 2. $3-5 for a meal for 1( for me that is usually at lunch and consists of a salad and the burger on the Royal RS menu which is yummers) We have never ordered dinner for RS( sailing in suites on Royal we can order from the full MDR menu) but if we did, of rate pair of us, probably $10 f we went whole hog( happy, entry, dessert)

Rare Scrapnana Posted February 21, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 21, 2015 I have only used room service a handful of times and tipped $3-4 depending on what I ordered.

How much do most people tip for room service on their cruise? Silly question, I know. 😬 We usually only have coffee and pastry so tip $1 or $2. However, if we order two full breakfasts, that is a heavier tray so we tip more.
cb at sea Posted February 21, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 21, 2015 Remember, you're tipping for the service, not the cost of the food! $1-2 for coffee/danish...$3-5 for a full meal.
sail7seas Posted February 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 21, 2015 Full dinner, I would definitely tip more than $3-5. There is no 'right or wrong' but we all use our judgment. If I think the fellow particularly pleasant, I'm more generous and vice versa. :D
navybankerteacher Posted February 21, 2015 #10 Share Posted February 21, 2015 I always have a stack of ones in the night stand and take a couple out before going to sleep -- they are usually so quick to leave after putting the tray down that he'd bo out the door before I could dig around for a couple of dollars. Laughing Angel Posted February 21, 2015 #11 Share Posted February 21, 2015 The first time we ordered room service, my cabin mate and I messed up and didn't tip (we had the money out and on the dresser, but she thought I tipped the crew member and I thought she did--oops!). After that, we kinda went (you should pardon the expression) overboard to show our appreciation. :D Usually, $2 to $3 for a snack, sandwich or drinks, and $5 for a full meal and/or alcoholic beverages. rstunger Posted February 22, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Thank you for all the suggestions/opinions; they put my mind at ease, as to what I tip. We only use room service for morning coffee and fruit or pastries, and have been tipping $2-$3. If we ever decide to order a full meal, we will tip more. On rare occasions, we didn't have small bills....so, simply wrote "tip" along with amount on the room service slip and signed it. You will then see it on your final bill. On some cruise lines (HAL), you cannot write in a tip on any slips but for the Steiner's Salon. All tipping on HAL above the automatically charged hotel service charge is done in cash.
