Downtown Miami Walking

We arrive in Miami at 1:30 and will be staying at the JW Marriott Marquis.

Having never been to Miami before, we have been reading up on things we can do within walking distance of our hotel. We know we can walk to Bayside, but is there anything else within walking distance? What is the "people mover" - I've read its very inexpensive, but what is there to stop and see along the route?

I guess we could take a cab to South Beach and walk around on the beach as well - which sounds like a really nice way to spend an afternoon!! :)

The "people mover" is actually free! Here is the link of where it goes.

We also have a free trolley system.

Walking Lincoln Road and South beach is a great way to spend the day. You can either take a cab or Uber over to it.

You can also walk along Brickell ave and go to Mary Brickell Village. Lots of people watching and restaurants.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a short distance away and a nice place to spend a few hours.

I'd spend my time in South Beach - bars, dining, art deco architecture, people watching, beach, etc. before spending a minute at Bayside Market.

People mover is like a metro/light rail system around downtown Miami out to the airport. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metromover

The people mover doesn't actually go out our to the airport, just the downtown area.

LOL, I had to see who wrote this because its something that I would write. I thought maybe with the way old threads pop up, that I had written it years ago.

Thanks to everyone for the replies!!

Sounds like we will drop off our luggage at the hotel and head to South Beach for a few hours. Is a taxi the best way to get to South Beach? Is there a certain area that we should be dropped off at?

Taxi or Uber. Aber will be cheaper. You can take the people mover and a bus but I wouldn't recommend it.

I would drop the luggage off and head over there. Lincoln Road is where I would ask to be dropped off. Maybe research a store or hotel you would like to go to and have them drop you off in that vicinity.

Here is one good site to read about it.

http://lincolnroadmall.com

Two great restaurants over there are Yardbird or Oolite. Yardbird is wonderful but reservations really do need to be made and they go early.
