Room Card

What does everybody do with their room cards while at the pool, spa, etc. I don't want to carry a wallet or ask one of the girls to carry some type of pocketbook. Seems like a minor issue, but just curious what people do with them.

I use a lanyard and a badge holder designed to hold the card securely but allow it to be easily removed... like these:

http://www.identicard.com/store/rigid-plastic-vertical-smart-card-holder-with-slide-ejector-2-1-8-x-3-3-8.html

When I don't wish to wear the lanyard, I run it through a belt loop or whatever on my shorts and stick it in my pocket.

Edit to add - if anyone's interested in the holders w/ the extractor, here's a site that sells them with no minimum quantity:

http://www.specialistid.com/Vertical_Card_Dispenser_With_Red_Extractor_Slide_p/1840-6566.htm

These are very handy. The cards stay put, but are easily removed without detaching the card holder, or the lanyard from your person.

If you will spend much time at the pool, it's worth getting a pair of swim trunks with in inside or outside pocket (preferably with some closure on it, like Velcro). That way, if you are away from your lady, you'll still have access to your room and can buy things.....drinks, etc.

If you have stickers on your card for the UBP UDP etc. you'll want to keep your card out of the water… Or get one of those waterproof card holders. They look dorky but they do the job (usually).

Nah... UBP stickers survived the pool, the hot tub, and the sea just fine in the holders I linked to above.

Thanks for the replies, I will try the lanyard. We do have the UBP, don't want to lose that sticker!!

You won't.

And... your UBP is not completely dependent on the sticker. You can get another one if the first gets lost.

Our last cruise was the first time I had a hole punched in my card and placed on a lanyard. I loved it. Didn't have to take it off or out of a pouch to slide in door or the reader to exit the ship. Even attached my camera to it when going ashore and loved not having to dig in a purse or bag every time I wanted to take a picture. Don't know why it took me so many cruises to do this.

Been looking for a holder like this! Thanks!

I have badge reels. They attach to your belt and have a retractable string the card hangs on. I then put the card in my pocket. The reels are available at any office supply store or office section of places like Walmart. http://mobile.walmart.com/ip/Baumgartens-BAU68824-Card-Reel-with-Belt-Clip-Stretches-30inch-Black/27351843?type=search

I've done the lanyard thing and it has generally been fine. I did not have an issue with my spa sticker coming off, but did have a problem with the info printed on the front of the card coming off due to water (salt? Chlorine?) exposure. Made it hard to swipe charges at bars and such, although it was usually fine once they looked me up via room number. In the future I will probably use one of the plastic holders to avoid a problem.

Some sun screens do dissolve the printing on the card. That shouldn't affect swiping the card though, and if the card doesn't swipe properly and/or has too much text rubbed off, one can easily get their card replaced at the Guest Services desk.

Our friends use a sun screen brand that causes them having to replace their cards every few days (once or twice for a week long cruise), unfortunately I can't remember the brand they are using, we use Australian Gold and never had that problem with our cards even though we often expose the cards to same elements and stress as they do.

As a male I just made sure my bathing suit trunks had a sealable pocket. I had the dining plan, drink package and a spa pass. The only sticker that kept coming off due to water was the spa pass as it was more like a traditional paper label than the plastic stickers they use for the UBP/UDP. No need for lanyards, cases, etc IMHO.

I bought a lanyard from the shop on board a couple of years ago-pretty crystal strap that gets positive comments-can be used with plastic credit card size holder or get card punched at guest services to attach directly to card

hubby uses a more "macho" lanyard !

the spa or UBP stickers tend to stay on pretty well but haven't subjected to in pool conditions-if does come off as others have said guest services will replace as these are linked to your account

If you're going to the spa or fitness center, you can leave your card at the spa reception desk and leave all your stuff (iPhone, wads of cash, the Heart of the Ocean) in a locker, safe from the 2 to 4 thousand thieves you are traveling with.

5 cruises, UBP every cruise with sticker on the card. I simply put the card in my swim shorts pocket. I do this in the pool, watersides, hot tub, and ocean. The card is waterproof and I've never had a UBP sticker fall off.
