Epic bathrooms- ideas?

Update! We had a wonderful time on our cruise, and I am SO THANKFUL that we took precautions to make this a good stay. I ended up taking a fabric shower curtain and suction hooks, but given the position of the existing hooks, I didn't really need to use mine.

I simply put the shower curtain up using both of the NCL hooks, and since I had brought some, I added one extra hook in the middle to double up the curtain. I was still able to used their hooks to hang clothes, towels, toiletry bag, swimsuits..

I've posted pictures to make this clearer.

There is a red curtain that separates the shower and toilet from the sink and sleeping area, but this way we could truly multitask and use the toilet or go in and out of the room when someone was in the shower, without worrying about telling them. My teen dd didn't even want us to walk by WITH the curtain, but since it was opaque she was unaware that we were doing it anyway :) we did announce when we were using the toilet, if someone was in the shower. The shower is big for cruise ship standards, but we chose to dress outside it. That was the only time we had to announce for others to stay out, but it was a relatively short time. The existing shower door is see through. I've posted pics so you can see, but with a fabric curtain we couldn't see a thing. Such an easy fix! We also used the red curtain.

While it was nice to multitask, I think they could have avoided some problems by making an opaque shower door and making the toilet door airtight. Let's just say it's kind of embarrassing to hear each others' noises, especially combined with all you can eat buffets. What WERE they thinking?? We joke around a lot so we just made light of it, but for some people this could be highly embarrassing. The flush is very loud but brief.

Also, when we closed the red curtain, there was hardly any light in the sink area, even with the sink light on. I don't wear a lot of makeup, but for those who do it may be an issue.

I wouldn't skip the epic for this bathroom design, but I would definitely take a shower curtain so you don't have to think too much. Other than this and the fact that we had to walk through the casino a lot, it was a great experience.

There is a curtain that pulls a cross the area where the toilet and shower compartment are. No need to have bring towels or sheets[emoji1]

I disagree.. It wasn't enough for us so I am glad we took a shower curtain! I know this issue is controversial for some reason that I will never understand, but please understand that for some of us this is an issue and I'm so glad we were able to work around it to make it an enjoyable stay for all of us. This update is for people like us :)

What do you mean the provided curtain wasn't enough? You wanted double-layer in case someone was trying extra hard to peek through it? I don't get it.

I really didn't Want to get into this again, but if you read through the thread you might understand. We used the curtain on the glass shower door, which is see through, so we could truly multitask and not have to worry about other people walking by or any potential embarrassment. Keep in mind I have a teenager and preteen Who care deeply about this issue.

If the original set up doesn't bother you, then good for you!

So, you have two active thread about Epic bathrooms on the first page and you are updating both of them? Oh, wait...you started a third thread to say you updated the other threads. Awesome.

I laughed. :D

Wow... I'm glad I made your day. I was unable to edit my original thread to indicate there was an update - since some people had asked for it. And yes, originally I had accidentally started a duplicate post. I don't know how that happened. I'm sure you've never made a mistake in your entire life. I am just astonished at some of the rudeness I've encountered on this board

No sense getting nasty about it! I asked a legitimate question. I can see this is important to you, since you had to post your update 3 separate times in 3 separate threads, so I'm sorry that I didn't get as excited as you wanted. Hooray! Good for you! Is that better?

The next time you post, I suppose you could include a choice of 3 or 4 possible replies that are suitable to you, and then we can pick one, since you seem to get nasty with pretty much everyone.

I'm sailing on the Epic for the first time in March, and I've read many comments about the bathroom situation. I'm going solo and staying in a studio so no issue, but having raised six kids, I can understand why this was a concern for you and your family. I usually travel with my 20-year-old daughter, and if we were to sail in an Epic balcony cabin, I can see where it would make her uncomfortable. Just wanted to let you know that some of us actually do understand why this was a concern to you and your family. :p

If anybody thinks the view on the first picture is "see-through" and not opaque enough, you have a lot better vision than I do! It looks like how Mr. Magoo would see something!

Thanks for this update, much appreciated. I will be going on board the Epic in February, sharing with my grandmother.. not usually an issue, but the bathroom situation has worried me a little if I'm honest. I'm pleased you managed to find a solution, I think I'll be following in your footsteps!

Thanks a ton for the pics!! I honestly avoid looking at the epic because of the bathroom thing and it has nothing to do with teens just me. I really appreciate these ideas as now I may look at the itineraries. Thanks again. Most of us really benefit from posts such as yours. Please ignore the others. :):)

It's not just my teen daughter, but I also have an 11 year old son. They would scream if they accidentally saw each other in either situation lol

I will certainly post pics and give an honest review from the perspective of someone who WAS concerned about it initially! :) I hope it won't be an issue and this was all for nothing.

My engineer husband is going to get a big kick out of this - I can see it now.

Ok...I am sailing on the Epic in September, but I don't think I understand the bathroom issue, I understand your issue with the two teenagers, but is the toilet and shower in the same area and you have to leave the door open for room???? Which is why the second curtain to block when the cabin door opens...

As you walk into the room, the shower or bath is on one side and the toilet is on the other. Both of them have the opaque glass and doors. Leaving the door open would not offer any more room.

Best thing about this topic is complaining about one's visibility to people in the hallway or family members whilst in the shower or toilet.. and after your cruise you upload a mega sized close up picture of yourself or a family member showering to thousands, perhaps millions of people on the internet.

Brilliant. :D

In addition, thanks to the huge pictures, I now have to scroll to the right to read the posts, as they are too wide to fit in the normal size.

Not quite sure I understand why people are complaining that someone's teen shouldn't be concerned about privacy, or that the curtain across half the room is sufficient. It isn't for many reasons, including members of your party entering the room from the door to the hallway, someone wanting to use the toilet while you are using the shower (which is the intended function of the separate toilet and shower, right?)

The Epic bathroom design is enough of an issue for NCL to never repeat the same design and, as far as I know, for no other cruise line to adopt it. There are enough people uncomfortable with it for NCL to send Epic to Europe where people don't seem to mind it as much. Whether it bothers me personally or not is not really the issue. It's a bad design because it is not accepted by all of the customers.

I think the light plastic shower curtain is a brilliant solution to the issue for those that it will satisfy.

I would still get the feeling that I'm crapping inside my cabin on the Epic though, and that and the horrible exterior design already mentioned (you can't see the ocean from many places) make it my least favorite NCL ship.

wow... some people seem to be having a rough day... or are in need of a vacation ! OP seems to be getting a lot of unnecessary flak about this.

While I personally don't have any problems with the set up, I can understand it. We have a group travelling and my nephew (16 yo) will be bunking with his grandparents. Yup ! I can totally see the benefit of an extra shower curtain !! I'm sure neither my nephew nor my mother (his grandmother) wants to have a shower behind frosted glass...

Cut the OP some slack - if it doesn't bother you, yay for you ! No one here can tell her "it's not that big of a deal" - because for her: it is.

Not sure if you've noticed, but most newer, higher end hotels are also going to the frosted glass, no real door design for the bathrooms as well, e.g. Aloft, Marriott's refreshed, etc. It is only a matter of time before North Americans will have to get over their phobia that the rest of the world doesn't have.

Actually come to think of it, I stayed at a Hilton last and they didn't have any glass at all, not even frosted.

Ok...so they are separate but they have opaque doors...got it...at least they are separated on the carnival and RCC they are together at least on the ones I sailed on. Thank you.
