Rare babs135 Posted March 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Is it possible to simply book a crossing and hotel stay but no flights? We would simply make our own way to New York. Perhaps it's cheaper to do the whole Cunard thing rather than slightly piecemeal?
Bell Boy Posted March 11, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Yes many people do this, however,in the end I think it would work out cheaper for you to have the full Cunard package. If you opt out of the Air fare you will only make a saving of £200 may be £250 pp .I'm not too sure if one can get to New York (British Airways) for around £200 ? I've just rearranged a future transatlantic booking and cancelled the return by air I was offered a credit of £200 towards the new booking for the return crossing. :)
cruiseluvva Posted March 11, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 11, 2015 We always do this - and use miles for the flight.
Rare Scrapnana Posted March 11, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2015 One way air fares from the US to the UK are usually more than a roundtrip. Not sure if this is true UK to US. Cunard booked my last one way airfare and it was less than 20% of what I would have paid if booked on my own.
V and S Posted March 11, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Icelandair and Aer Lingus are two airlines I know of who offer one-way fares for the same cost as 1/2 a roundtrip.

Tips on using Cunard to book etc,are very helpful. Thanks..
cruiseluvva Posted March 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2015 In the UK air miles work out similar to Cunard Air . For economy fares perhaps, but we have always found using miles for business class flights to be cheaper.

Rare babs135 Posted March 12, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Quick question. How much is a crossing without a flight?
seacruise9 Posted March 12, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Hi, I did a westbound crossing on the QM2 in November 2014 and booked my own air from Chicago to London. Because most US airlines charge a ridiculous premium for a one-way transatlantic flight, I used miles for the airfare. Also, I am booked on an eastbound crossing on the Queen Victoria for April 2015 (last segment of the world cruise). I am using miles for my return air from London to Chicago. If I didn't have the miles, I would look into booking the air through Cunard. Chuck
Rare Scrapnana Posted March 12, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Quick question. How much is a crossing without a flight? In the US, a typical crossing runs between $1000 and $1300 for the least expensive inside. U.S. prices do not include air fare.
