Any info anyone can provide would be appreciated. Prefer taxi or private car service rather than public transportation.

Many thanks.

Which cruise terminal, where? Are you talking about getting on a small ship in Nice (they actually have a small pier), Villefrance, Monte Carlo or Cannes?

Small ship (Azamara). Don't have the documentation as of yet to actually give the port location.

There are plenty of taxis at Nice airport. You don't have to worry about getting one. Fare depends on where you are going.

If you want private transportation with some optiona sightseeing along the way (especially if going to Monaco pier) check companies such as friend-infrance.com

Well, that is not really helpful. Am surprised the info would not be part of the online itinerary. But if you are talking about a embarkation port it would most likely be using Monte Carlo where they have a pier that can handle the Azamara ships. Villefranche and Cannes (to other common cruise ports) are both tender ports which does not normally work for embarkations. And Nice does not normally handle embarkations for cruise ships (although we did embark there many years ago on the old Regent Spirit). Getting from Nice to Monte Carlo will be pretty expensive by since its about a 20 mile drive. Finding a taxi is not an issue at the airport and they will all be very happy to take this kind of fare. We would estimate the taxi fare at about 65€. You should also be able to pre book a private transfer service for about $100.

Hank is right. friend-in-france.com charges 80 euros for the transfer from the airport to Monaco. They are very reliable. A taxi will be somewhat less expensive.

Some cruise companies are showing less and less respect for the knowledge of geography of their passengers. Like they say the port is Provence when they mean Marseille, or Taormina when they mean Giardini Naxos or Messina, or Nice when they mean any other port.

You got that right :). We have seen some strange itineraries which sometimes makes me wonder if the cruise line employees who publish the itinerary have ever been to Europe or looked at a map. Last year we spotted one cruise itinerary that showed Nice, but the actual cruise was tendering into Cannes. This makes no sense. And some cruises will show "Monte Carlo" on their itinerary when they actually tender into Villefranche. And then we all love the itineraries that say "Paris" (they really mean Le Havre which is more then 2 hours distant) or "Berlin" (which can be nearly 3 hours from the port).

Thanks to you and "marazul" for your information and the sense of humour (walk to Berlin from the pier).

Am awaiting word from AZ to find out exact pier. Meanwhile you both have made it clear that taxis are readily available.

Happy cruising to both of you for future cruises.

Can you?:D

If you have very big feet!

BTW - the Nice port authority handles Cannes, Antibes, Nice and Villefranche. For the past few years only ferries to Corsica and private boats have been using the port at Nice. I seem to recall some of the really small cruise ships, like SeaDream, Seabourn and WindStar pull up there, but that was a while back.

The last time we actually were in the Port of Nice on a ship was in the early 90s on the old Regent Spirit of the now long defunct Regency Cruise lines. She was an old vessel of about 10,500 tons and about 500 feet long and carried something like 300-350 passengers. What was memorable about that ship was that we did back to back to back 7 day cruises (all different itineraries) and our turn-around days were on Sunday. One of the entertainers suggested we take the bus from Nice to St Paul de Vence (this was the first time we visited this city) which began our love affair with this delightful walled city. Even though it has become more and more touristy it is still one of our favorite places in the region.

Is it easy to take the train from Nice to the cruise terminal in Monte Carlo? I assume you might need a taxi from the station to ship. We are staying in Nice three days prior to a cruise in October and would prefer to use public transport if possible. Thank you to everyone who posts such helpful information on these boards, it makes cruise planning much easier and such fun!

Depending on where you are staying in Nice, you also need a taxi to the train station. Unless you are only carrying a backpack, you also need a taxi from the train station in MC to the pier.

After all those taxis and hassles, check friend-in-france.com to price private transportation. You get a quote right on the website.

Thank you I will do that. The train might not be worth the hassle!
