How to spend onboard excursion credit

As part of our Alaska package we purchased last year, we have onboard credit for shore excursions. Does anyone know how to use those before we board to apply towards an excursion?

You can't. Anything you purchase prior to boarding you have to pay for. You must wait until onboard to use OBC.

Even for shore excursion credit?

I'm not sure I've ever heard about a specialized "excursion" credit. Normally, there is refundable and non-refundable "on board credit". You can use the OBC for just about anything you spend onboard, drinks, dinning, excursions, casino ect., but usually not gratuities. How did you get the credit you're referring to?

I think this is something NCL has to fix. If I have OBC I should be able to use it for my excursion pre-booking. I should also be able to apply my Platinum credit for dinner in Le Bistro to a reservation online. There should either be s promo code or other method for redeeming online. No reason with today's technology not to be able to offer this.

You can use your OBC for ANYTHING....it's a CREDIT against any charges! Doesn't have to be for an excursion...can be for anything you charge to your account!

Yes, but only when you book on board. It is an ON BOARD CREDIT!

I have never heard of an excursion credit.

???

Help us help you.

I believe this person is referring to the "all inclusive" deal they had last year--$800 got you the UDP, UBP, DSC paid, a 10% discount off the price of the cruise, free pictures, excursion OBC(I think the idea here was that there wouldn't be much else to pay for other than excursions), among other free things I can't recall.

***they might not be talking about this, but that's the only time I remember there being excursion OBC.

It is a knowingly made choice by NCL - they can not know in advance if you are going to have OBC and how much (based on my experience I'd say that non-NCL OBC is more common than NCL OBC).

Before it was possible to book online without paying, but that caused a lot of cancellations etc onboard and so they went to current system where people do not generally make reservations "just in case" since those are free.

That was a problem especially with shore excursions where they don't generally have two separate booking quotas - if an excursion gets sold out already before the cruise, it remains that way unless they get more capacity (impossible for example for cabanas on GSC) or someone cancels and since you can cancel only 24hrs before, those free prebookers tied up a lot of inventory that then suddenly became free on previous day. At that point many others that would have been interested about the excursion had already made other plans.

I do agree with the Platinum dinner though but that isn't something that would generate revenue for them so changing the system just for that isn't likely to happen.

I am talking about the package that Naomilights talks about - it seemed like a really good deal. It would be nice to book the excursions ahead of time using the credit in the account instead of having to wait until the cruise and finding the tour you want already booked

I am sailing this weekend on the Sun and as part of a package I received $200 of excursion credit. You cannot Pre-book online and use the credit, but you can call NCL direct to book excursions and apply against the credit. I booked the one excursion I know my wife and I wanted in this manner and did not have to give a credit card as they were able to see we had this credit and applied it to the reservation.

So it can be done, but takes a phone call.

I will double check, but I believe the number given above by rungod is the number.

Hi, bossrat, thank you for rechecking the number. I hope it is a different one. I have called the number (given by rungod) twice today and both of the reps said I could not do this.

Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Well then, I'm not sure how I did it. But I for darn sure did. The booking shows up on the NCL website for my cruise and I even went back last night to my credit card bills for the last few months and definitely was not charged. Very strange.

Have you tried calling the 866-234-7350 number? Maybe that was the number I called.

Hi, thanks again. your number above is the second one I tried. I am pleased for you that you were able to do it. :)

I may try again today with both numbers and try different choices in their phone menus. :D

Enjoy your cruise!

i haven't read all the answers but most that I have read are WRONG

We called the excursion number, told them which excursions we want and they were booked and we received confirmation. There was an 12 dollar difference between our excursion credit that we will have charged to out on board account. We also paid for our kid's excursions at the same time.

It takes a few minutes longer to revive confirmation, but it is easy and the excursion desk knows exactly how to handle it

When I go to myNCL the excursions are there right under"booked items""
