mickeysgal Posted March 30, 2015 #52 Share Posted March 30, 2015 That's just way too steep of a surcharge. If they're going to charge that much, they need to redesign the menu. The stuff they have on it now, isn't worth it.
Gershep Posted March 30, 2015 #53 Share Posted March 30, 2015 This is so crazy. My sons use room service quite often since they go to bed late and like their after midnight snack. Sometimes they sleep in and order breakfast. We didn't mind paying the after midnight fee but $7.95 for room service when I already paid for the cost of a meal in my cruise fair is nuts. I feel bad for those people that get sick and can't leave their room to get food it will cost them. Since I have booked my cruise the increases are ridiculous. Final payment is due tomorrow and I am really thinking about canceling mostly because I am afraid of what other changes and increases will occur from now until June. NCL is averaging a change /increase once a week. I have been cruising for over 30 years and have never experienced anything like this. What a shame that NCL is putting such a damper on their customers vacation.
Quench Posted March 30, 2015 #54 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Next week on the BA $5.95 per towel animal and the following week $2 per day for a beach towel unlimted exchanges per day. ;) Or maybe $20.00 for early disembark:eek:
Nola26 Posted March 30, 2015 #55 Share Posted March 30, 2015 If this is true is it possible that it is jut for the heavy Easter week? Disney parks raises meal plan prices and even restricts some menu option during Easter and Christmas holiday periods.
sparkinator Posted March 30, 2015 #56 Share Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) For your convenience, of course  If this is true, then their communication director needs to be fired. I understand increasing prices, but this is ridiculous. They shot themselves in the foot when they increased gratuities on drinks and added auto gratuities to the specialty restaurants. Now, they have reloaded the gun, and are shooting off vital organs! :( It seems that management thought by increasing costs on gratuities only, it would be easier for the cruise community to accept, but this is way too much too soon. Most of these won't effect me much at all. We don't use room service, and rarely eat at specialty restaurants, but they way it has been handled does leave a bad taste in ones mouth. Tenn4ever Posted March 30, 2015 #58 Share Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) Just booked a crusie on Pride of America around Hawaii. We don't normally cruise NCL but chose this cruise because the other lines don't offer it. Just another reason I will not cruise NCL again after this upcoming cruise. Love to order a pot of coffee for when I first jump out of bed...guess not on this upcoming cruise. I'll just traipse down to the buffet with pj's on, hair askew and teeth unbrushed to bring a couple cups of coffee back to the room:D Edited March 30, 2015 by Tenn4ever
SissasMomE Posted March 30, 2015 #59 Share Posted March 30, 2015 The ironic part is 3 of the cabins in our group refused to sail NCL for years because they heard they would be nickeled and dimed. It took me a long time to convince them to give it a try. I not only feel like a complete idiot now, but I am just .... so disappointed in the way NCL has handled all of these changes. Not cool at all :( I really don't even think they care that they are going to be losing my business.
NYteacher Posted March 30, 2015 #60 Share Posted March 30, 2015 I've watched all the changes that are occurring to NCL right now and there is nothing I can do about it as my cruise is next week. Frankly we will be some of the suckers paying for the room service charge as it is simply part of how we enjoy our cruise vacation. HOWEVER, this latest charge may very well be the one that makes it hard to book NCL in the future. It too bad because we live in New York City and we have really enjoyed all our NCL cruises. On the other hand, we have also enjoyed our HAL and Celebrity ones as well--Carnival is another story. This fall we are trying Princess and I've been reading some very nice things about MSC Yacht Club. It's weird that a room service charge could make me feel this way, perhaps illogical, but the cumulative effect of all these charges at once is considerable. jonbgd Posted March 30, 2015 #61 Share Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) Sorry to crash the party but I predict there won't be much outrage over this. Most passengers prefer to go to buffet or restaurants for their meals and seldom use room service. NCL knew and decided to phase out this underused service to reduce op costs. RU Kidding me We use room service for Coffee and pastries /Bfast on every cruise we have ever been on I don't mind tipping 2-5 each time Its a tip up to my discretion No wonder Sheehan retired:rolleyes: BTW its $5 for a pizza anywhere on the ship ?????????????????????????? SissasMomE Posted March 30, 2015 #62 Share Posted March 30, 2015 If the other cruise lines were smart, they would start with the free drinks / dining, etc., now to catch the business NCL is going to lose. Celebrity is doing it, but only on limited cruises.
shapatack0 Posted March 30, 2015 #63 Share Posted March 30, 2015 This is the last straw for me. My wife and I have been loyal NCL cruisers but if this is true, we're done. We use this service for breakfast on days when we have early excursions. I'm not paying $8 for pastries. I hope this company goes under, they deserve it the way they're treating their customers. Our next cruise is in two weeks on the Getaway so I guess we'll find out for sure then.
HazelSmrf Posted March 30, 2015 #64 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Nooooo. I really loved my first Carnival cruise. Then the 2nd was ok. And the third was just alright. I mean you noticed the budget cuts, the no live band on the lido, the smaller production shows etc. Then I cruised the Epic and thought WOW, NCL for me from now on, I can't go back to Carnival after seeing what I was missing! I'm still excited to go on the Getaway at the end of April but I'm starting to wonder if this will be like Carnival, where I'll go on a few more cruises and be more disappointed each time until I jump to another line. Or is this a sign of the times and this is what all cruise lines are going to do. The Canadian dollar SUCKS right now so the cruise is already expensive, the little 10$ charges they do add up. CruiseM1018 Posted March 30, 2015 #66 Share Posted March 30, 2015 I fell in love with Cruising because of the freedom and flexibility found on board. Room service is a simple pleasure that all other cruise lines offer, including the bargain competitors. I honestly don't care that I only use room service once or twice per cruise. It's knowing that I CAN'T in the future that bothers me. We're committing thousands of dollars towards a vacation, the luxury and pleasure of room service should be provided. Breakaway cruise in June and then I'm done with NCL.
HazelSmrf Posted March 30, 2015 #67 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Maybe room service isn't a good value for them at weird hours because sending someone to one balcony on one deck for a plate of cookies and then to another deck on the opposite side of the ship to deliver a sandwich... but breakfast? Everyone eating from a limited menu, with multiple orders coming in for the same time and the same areas, breakfast should at least be included. I could understand a more expensive after hours fee when the staff is low. But breakfast should be at full staff anyways.

homeschoolmama Posted March 30, 2015 #69 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Thank you airlines for paving the way. Next charge by ncl is bound to be 25$ for each bag brought on board. Bluefox Posted March 30, 2015 #70 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Oh man... I just booked our first NCL cruise for November and now I'm wondering if we should cancel while we can. We were splurging for the first time and getting a 2 bedroom suite and bringing Grandma. My son will only be 1.5 yr old! Room service was one of the reasons I thought this type of vacation would work for us right now. Are they seriously going to charge for room service in the suites?! This is absurd.
moesyk4 Posted March 30, 2015 #71 Share Posted March 30, 2015 This leaves a really sour taste with me and although I am sure they protect themselves in the contract, it reeks of unethical practices and bad business. Run a great promo and greatly increase bookings, then greatly increase charges and tips with no notice. How can you leave for vacation one morning and be able to see a promised Perk and then show up to a place up to a place you literally can't leave and find out it has been changed. Plus I feel obviously they planned this promo to drum up business and conveniently slip these extra charges in. We at in the minority....most cruisers aren't going to do this research or visit a site like this in advance enough to cancel their cruise which is what ncl is betting on. I understand increases, but this is shady and awful. We currently have our first two ncl cruises booked having switched our reservations from rccl but I have no hesitation switching them back. At the very least, I am no longer going to talk positively about them to others until I see how this shakes out since in the two months I have frequented these boards ncl has made four changes against us, at least two of which were done without notice to cruisers. AlexandNessa Posted March 30, 2015 #73 Share Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) So Norwegian has become the Ryan Air of the Seas. And seemingly overnight. We'll keep our cruise that's within final payment, but I'm certainly not that excited about the other two that are well outside final payment. We'll see how this cruise goes before we make any decisions, but we prefer a more upscale, inclusive experience. I've had to defend against nickel and diming. I'm out of excuses. DMH15 Posted March 30, 2015 #74 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Have one NCL cruise next week and one booked for Feb 2017 using a Cruise Reward Certificate. Finally platinum. Was planning to buy more FCCs next week but all of this cumulative increases changed my mind. I have been thinking about how wonderful a non smoking casino on X would be. Me and my suite dollars are thinking of a change. I already have one X cruise under my belt. I enjoyed it. NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD FEEL THIS WAY. Hope no more surprises before my cruise next week. Rare mking8288 Posted March 30, 2015 #75 Share Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) What's next - Early Boarding fees ?? Early/Priority Disembarkation fees ?? Preferred seating fees in the MDR ?? Early Tenders fees ?? Environmental compliance fees ?? Health, safety & security compliance fees ?? Why bother, just impose that darn pro-rated $54 resort fees for the week ... FDR figured that since Vegas hotels can get away with $20 daily resort fee surcharges among its guests - NCL can easily stick it to us. It still doesn't explain the long lines I saw on Day 1 & 2 at Guest Services on deck last week, previously reported on the 3/15/15 sailing also. Oh, wait - $7.95 per delivery x once a day x 7 days = $55.65 ... that's pretty close to that Wall Street target # quoted of $54 Ding, Ding, Ding - Bingo, we got a winning idea here ... NOT  NCL - the trend setters for the mass lines ... proud to be the among the last group sailing on the Breakaway last week to avoid the delivery charge. Edited March 30, 2015 by mking8288
