Yes they have, NO SUITES will be paying the convenience charge..

No they have not answered the questions I posed. You should re-read my post.

All of the NCL published information we have seen to date says the Room Service Convenience Charge does not apply to HAVEN OR HAVEN SUITES.

To my knowledge, NCL has not published anything concerning Suites that are not considered part of a HAVEN.

If the room service convenience charge is levied fleet wide, we still have some unanswered questions.

Does the Room Service Convenience Charge (or 18% auto gratuity) apply to room service in:

1) Suites on ships that do not have Havens ? (Sun, Sky, Star, Spirit & Dawn)

2) Suites on ships where some of the suites ARE NOT part of the Haven and other suites ARE part of the Haven ? (Jewel, Jade, Gem & Pearl)

The FAQ says (and has said for several days):

http://www.ncl.com/faq#norwegian-cruise-line-now-charging-room-service

"...(Room Service orders placed by guests sailing in Suites and The Haven will not attract a charge)..."

They have used the phrase "Suites and the Haven" in the past to mean both non-Haven and Haven suites, which to me is the common sense reading of the phrase.

I give you that you inparticular didn't say it would kill NCL, so my apologies. What I won't give you is you presuming to know or believe that I'm "defending a company I love" It's fairly obvious that you have clearly not paid attention to the majority of my posts by making such a statement.

Because my or anyone elses opinion/view on the changes is opposite of yours or those that agree with you doesn't indicate that I or others think NCL "can do no wrong" it only indicates that we don't see the issue the same.

We may see a different issue the exact same way, one never knows. Because I disagree with you and others on the issue doesn't mean I'm going to put you on ignore or blow off any other discussions/debates on future topics.

Happy Sailings,

TheCapt

I just saw your post and learned this is your first NCL cruise...that makes it even more puzzling and confusing to me that you would be okay with them digging deeper into your pocket without recourse. And what I mean by recourse, I mean discussing it in social media to defend or dispute their new policies or calling NCL or withdrawing from the cruise. OF course it was easy for me to cancel as I'm way ahead of final payment and have plenty of options.

It could be because you and your family just shelled out an enormous amount of $ and so you will stand by the wisdom of your decision despite unplanned fees being added to your's (or should I say their) bottom line.

Ultimately, NCL will make the decision. And consumers will make their's. Please let me know if you're going to ignore me so I can save a few minutes typing. Me personally, I enjoy a good adversary.

Something being "indefensable" is subjective. I could say it's indefensable for NCL to charge you for losing a towel. What is defensable is to have an opposite opinion over a policy/procedure change.

Calling it cheerleading, being an NCL zealot and assuming that the "oposition" thinks NCL can do no wrong adds zero valie to the discussion/debate. It only makes it appear that those doing so are lessening the value of an opposing viewpoint.

I'm not married to NCL. This is my and DW first cruise and it was the line and itineray that fit the 30 of us as it's an "extended family" venture. Maybe I will sail with NCL in the future and maybe not. I will however continue to enjoy everyones opinion/viewpoint on various aspects of cruising and NCL.

Happy Sailings,

Let me start by saying that my reply is not intended to be smarmy or nasty. It is intended to be a logical, rational, and intellegent review of your ability to profer an opinion of significant value or credibility.

I believe we ascertained that you have had only one previous cruise (2014).

If we were in a court room trial and my opponent put you on the proposed witness list to profer an opinion on the new RSCC, I would be able to have your stricken from the list for want of sufficient experience to form a knowlegeable opinion.

I suggest you lack the experience and background to challenge the opinions and knowledge of long time experienced cruisers.

As one of my fellow CCers (with whom I have had many honest disagreements) likes to say:

"You have a right to your own opinion, but you do not have a right to your own facts"

NCL eliminated lobster tails from the MDR menus altogether starting in mid 2014 as they introduced new menus. Looking at your cruise history it appears as though you may not cruised with NCL recently enough to have seen that (the Sun was one of the last holdouts), hence your mistaken statement that I've highlighted in red . I don't know if they finally have introduced the new menus on every ship...for example the POA was reportedly still offering lobster tail relatively recently.
Thank you for clarifying that they haven't served lobster in the MDR since last year. I guess the expert should have checked their facts before saying that they still serve it in the MDR.

Thank you for your rapid reply with new information.

It's most appreciated but may not resolve the problem

You directed me to the FAQ which now says:

(Room Service orders placed by guests sailing in Suites and The Haven will not attract a charge) *. ...

*Prices subject to change.

This is a new FAQ which was not there yesterday.

Here is what was and still is found on the NCL Website (Official Offer of Goods & Services) yesterday and continues today:

"The following items are not included in the cruise fare:.....

Pizza Delivery

Convenience Charge for Room Service on non-Haven Suites"

http://www.ncl.com/faq/cruise-fare-includes

The official offer of goods and services by Sales Department takes prescedence over FAQ which is changed by the Public Relations Department.

I seems like NCL HQ's left hand does not know what the right hand is doing and they are in panic mode trying to contain a monumental PR blunder.

Thank you for letting us know. I like toby459 and Uniall thought they still served lobsters in the MDR. Some of us get our information about certain things NCL here on CC. I guess some people are so into being right all the time that they take things personally as we see with some people who respond to threads :D

I had lobster on the Sun last October on all three legs of a B2B2B.

Chef Denton says he'll have it for us this coming October.

Only problem with this, Annie, is that you lose their deposit so NCL make more money and get to resell your cabin! Win-win for NCL.

UK if they resell the cabin then the lost deposit may not be legal.

Thomson lost a case with a cruise passenger over cancelling fees when they resold the cabin

I'd be really surprised if they were to have it this October, since by this time it's quite possible no other NCL ship does.

However, I do agree that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing..and none of the hands seem to be able to write in clear, concise language that's not subject to multiple interpretations. If I ever wrote contract language like that I would have put more than one insurance company out of business.

You mean like you do in my thread about the DSC? You misrepresent the facts of the policy every time you pop up in there. Is it because you just can't read?

Me? You're the one that continues to dropped half the statement every time you talk about the DSC. Talk about reading comprehension issues.

Then again, every post you make about the DSC sounds just like they are being made by LMB. Coincidence????

Do you really think that anyone really cancelled their cruise. There was so much complaining about some of the changes Celebrity made a couple of years ago and a lot saying they were cancelling and never cruising with them again and they are all there, even the one poster who swears he doesn't cruise with them any longer. These cruise lines are a lot smarter than some think, they know most of it is all talk and no action.

Did I cancel my upcoming cruise? No, because I could not replace the itinerary with any other line and I am just past final payment date (not stupid enough to just throw money away). Will you see me on the NCL boards after July, no, because I have no need to ever sail NCL again. Not just because of this but many reasons that make them a poor cruise line. Of course, if you see a post from me after July on these boards you can remind me to eat crow......but I HIGHLY doubt that is going to happen. :)

It's possible you are correct and Chef Denton will serve us lobster from Cagney's as a special request. He and I hit it off very well. But, I know the MDR had it on it's menu on all 3 legs of our B2b just 6 months ago and he said he'd have it this coming Oct.

Probably is the same person - same non reading comprehension issues with the same exact rattling off about DSC and its removal, too. *shrug*

I certainly wouldn't remind you of anything. It is your decision and I think standing by your principals is an admirable trait.

Enjoy all your future cruises, no matter which cruise line you choose. I will miss your posts, as you have always given some very valuable insights in a respectful way, and hope to see your posts after July.

NCL started making minor changes and adjustments on this subject on their website on or about April 3, 4 & 5. It was one word here and another word there. Just enough to change the tone (and meaning?) but not enough to have the casual reader notice a change.

To me that smacks of subterfuge which would have shocked me 2 years ago.

I keep checking MyNCL to see if I can advance book the URSP. It's sure to be there soon. $10 per person per day and the Ultimate Room Service Package allows unlimited room service throughout the cruise!:D

Ok, now that's funny! :)

I cancelled my 2016 cruise.

I was going to give them a try and booked the weekend before all this nonsense came out. I normally cruise Carnival and Disney but wanted to give NCL's newer boats a try. I live in South Florida so I cruise often. They lost my business. It's naive to think NCL won't lose old customers OR new customers over this PR disaster.

I will say it is sad to see a fellow South Floridian go

And situations like this with other cruise lines make DCL look even better. After all, not only is room service included, but so are non-alcoholic beverages and all entertainment - including first run movies from time to time... oh, and Disney characters... and... I'm sure you all get my drift. ;)

Are you kidding? I looked up a Disney cruise they are outrageously expensive.

Right. I've never been able to find anything close in price on Disney though some claim to have found good deals. That, plus I'd miss the casino. I'm getting my Disney fix when we get off the Carnival Valor next week. Best of both worlds.

To me it just smacks of the same gross incompetence that NCL has displayed throughout the development of this issue.

Del Rio seems to be running an autocracy. When he took over at NCLH, it was reported that he eliminated the management by committee consensus that was in place during Sheehan's tenure. While I spent all too many hours of my corporate life in committee meetings that often unnecessarily dragged out the decision making process and sometimes designed the proverbial camel instead of the desired horse, I believe that style of management carries a lower risk of producing a result that's totally out of touch with a company's customers than an autocracy.
