B of A Visa points-redemption

Recommended Posts

OK, so please explain how you got $2500 off with 125000 points. I thought 125000 points was only worth $1250??? ...

It could be that they booked the Indy cruise before BOGOHO, so they could take advantage of the $2500 off for a free cruise.

If you really want to game the system, and come out all the better for it, junk that RC visa and open a Barclays Arrival Plus card. Gives 2 points for all purchases, 10% points back when you redeem and 40,000 points for sign up after 3000 in purchases in the first 3 months. Now that is a deal!

I have 30,554 points. What would you use it for to get the max value? OBC?

The best redemptions are the ones that would get you a max value of $500 for 25K points, which unfortunately, cannot be used with the BOGOHO rates. So, the next best redemption is probably two 15K point redemptions for $300 off your cruise fare.

We are using 125000 points for $2500 off our 7night Caribbean cruise for 2 on Independence

We, too, have booked the IOTS for a "free" cruise for 125,000 RCL BofA Visa card points. Hope you had better luck than us. Following is a description of our experience.

While sailing on the Quantum in Feb 2015, we met with the Loyalty Ambassador on board and explained that we had 125,000 points on our RCL Visa card and wanted to book a "free" cruise. Longer story short, she booked us for the 06/28/2015 sailing of the IOTS in the cheapest ocean view stateroom available. We were charged the reduced $200 deposit amount and were given a written "Booking Confirmation-Guest Copy" showing a balance due of $2727.34. The taxes, fees, and port expenses were listed as $259.34 and were included in the balance due of $2727.34.

Thanks for any insight that you might offer.

Since the $259.34 is NOT covered as part of the "free" cruise, we were told by the loyalty ambassador (LA) that we would be required to pay the $259.34 amount after the maximum of $2,500 allowance for our 125,000 points was applied to our booking.

While booking the IOTS with the LA, we ask that the booking be transferred to our travel agent who had booked our Quantum cruise and the transfer was made without any problem.

A few days ago and after our "free" cruise credit was applied to our booking, our travel agent called to say that we have a balance due of $1,317.34 instead of the $259.34 that we were told by the LA would be due!!

Another longer story short and after our TA discussed the matter with RCL at our request, RCL now declares that we were misinformed by the Quantum LA and that we must pay the $1,317.34 instead of the $259.34.

We were not able to understand our TA's explanation as to what RCL said happened from the time we booked the IOTS on board until receiving the notice that we owed an additional $1,058.00 instead of $259.34.

If by now your experience has been an experience similar to ours in booking a "free" cruise with Visa points, do you understand why we are being charged this ridiculous difference described above?

"It could be that they booked the Indy cruise before BOGOHO, so they could take advantage of the $2500 off for a free cruise. " (from Bob)

That's exactly right.

The cost of the lowest category oceanview for 7 night Caribbean sailing for the first 2 people in cabin was approx. $3610, so we get $2500 off of that.

We are sitting on 125,000 points and just waiting for the BOGO smoke & mirror promos to end...hopefully.

After cashing in on the free cruise we will be looking for a better credit card.
