funcruiser1234 Posted April 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2015 What are your thoughts on the newly released cruise director schedule? Do you like the placements or not? Just curious, but what does Playlist Install mean?

EMBFlyer Posted April 15, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Just curious, but what does Playlist Install mean? I would assume that means when the ships in question are getting the Playlist Productions shows installed onboard.
lizardhowson Posted April 15, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Doesn't matter to me who the cruise director is. I'm with you ! I have never understood the clamor about who the CD is. As far as I'm concerned, our CD can be Mickey Mouse, Elsie the Cow or Donald Trump. It will have only a minuscule effect on my time on board the ship.
love my grandkids Posted April 15, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Sorry to see some CD's who we have enjoyed leave. Playlist is the new type of production show they are going to and IMHO very much worse than what they put on in the past.

cmptrwiz Posted April 15, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Doesn't make me unhappy! As others have said a cruise director doesn't make or break a cruise for us. Having said that a good cruise director can add to a cruise. We had one cruise director (who shall remain nameless) who drove me nuts! I would still book a cruise with that cruise director onboard. I would like to sail with John Heald one day.
rockraiders Posted April 15, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2015 We usually don't pay any attention to the CD. We were on an Alaska cruise last summer with John Heald and we really enjoyed him.
seashell4274 Posted April 16, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 16, 2015 I'm interested in who the cruise director is but it doesn't matter really to me. Some good ones can make a cruise more memorable but doesn't break it for me. Sent from my KFTHWI using Forums mobile app
dave_k58 Posted April 16, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 16, 2015 Where is the list of the new CD schedule. It won't change my mind about any cruises, but I am just interested.
Gardeneroflove Posted April 16, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 16, 2015 Doesn't matter to me who the cruise director is. same. I pay no attention and never noticed a differance in any of them. I can't recall any of them. They have no impact (that I'm aware of) to my cruise.
winddawn Posted April 16, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 16, 2015 What are your thoughts on the newly released cruise director schedule? Do you like the placements or not? Just curious, but what does Playlist Install mean? I couldn't care less whether there even is a cruise director on my cruise, as long as they aren't constantly blaring announcements on the PA. IMO they do little more than place their spin on whatever is going on to try to make it sound good, and try to sell stuff. I don't feel that brings much value to my cruise experience. If others enjoy that though, more power to them. Its just not my thing.
Lady_Jag Posted April 17, 2015 #13 Share Posted April 17, 2015 Usually, I don't care who the CD is, but I was looking forward to sailing with John Heald as CD on the Legend in .June. Now I'm disappointed that he won't be there until July.[emoji17] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

It won't change my mind about any cruises, but I am just interested. http://johnhealdsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/ED-CD-Schedule-UPDATED-04-09-15.pdf I have found that a CD cannot ruin any cruise I'm on but I have also found that a good CD can and does make it better... A good CD makes me want to join in the SailAway Party, makes me want to attend some of his shows, makes me want to talk to him and get to know him... Even makes it ok to do things that I would never ever do at home :)

The only one I remember was Jen Baxter because she was LOUD and visible with her CC groupies who flocked and walked everywhere with her. Rare Tapi Posted April 17, 2015 #16 Share Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) On Carnival, I think that CD's are important because they need to be more pleasant, energetic and fun since they are so visible and ever present. Nothing more annoying on a cruise than an obnoxious CD making incessant announcements about bingo and gold chain sales or thinking that they are funnier than they really are! [emoji13] On other cruise lines where CD's are unobtrusive and almost invisible, it's not as important. One of the things that I enjoyed about my Princess and Holland cruises was exactly how stealthy CD's are. Edited April 17, 2015 by Tapi

FuturzMinion Posted April 17, 2015 #18 Share Posted April 17, 2015 I would've been much happier if they released the new itineraries, the cruise director doesn't matter to to me at all.
steph7021 Posted April 17, 2015 #19 Share Posted April 17, 2015 I have no memory of any CD on my cruises. When do you actually see them?? Are they a part of the stuff around the main pool...we steer clear of that area typically. We do go to a few shows and I guess they do the intro.... daisychain11 Posted April 17, 2015 #20 Share Posted April 17, 2015 Having only been on 2 cruises, I have seen the difference between meh and great. Did our first family cruise last June on Glory. Eversen had just started being the Cruise Director a few months earlier. He was AWESOME! We became much more involved in the going-ons on the ship because of him. He planned a music trivia on the 80's one night. We came early because I love the eighties. Seriously, so many people came that we flooded the casino and people could barely gamble. Since it was so popular, he did it again a few nights later on the 70's music. Even more people showed up this time! I thought he was exaggerating when he said he stayed up the night before making the music quiz and setting up the music. Later, at a Q&A, he said it was true - he was up late mixing the music because he wanted it perfect for all of us. The fact he went out of his way to do this for all of us aboard the ship, really was sweet. I was just surprised he didn't already have stuff like this ready at hand, but I guess since he was still "newish", he was still making it up as he went. I think it's tricky to be a CD. You want to make the newbies happy so they come back and become "cruisers-for-life" but you don't want to alienate the ones who have been on several cruises. My first cruise was with a bunch of girlfriends. I won't even mention the ship. The CD tried to be exciting, but it was an older ship and I think most people were there to get drunk since it was a short cruise. The show was bad. I didn't know who was more embarrassed - the people on the stage or us watching. But hey - I was hanging with my girlfriends and had a great time anyway. However, if I had been there with my family, we probably never would have cruised again. The ship was god-awful-looking, even tho it had been upgraded. Apparently they spent the money on putting in Serenity and not getting rid of the purple interior. I seriously almost got hives from the purple - and I like purple, normally. Anyway, I really don't like bashing, so I'll just say I'm glad we went on Glory as a family. We loved it so much, we decided to go on Valor next, which has the same layout (but we do know not the 2.0 upgrades, but we are fine with that). misterchatter Posted April 17, 2015 #23 Share Posted April 17, 2015 The CD, as well as the maître d, I could care less who they are. At least I haven't seen the CD make an appearance on the last night to hustle a gratuity.
Rare Honolulu Blue Posted April 17, 2015 #24 Share Posted April 17, 2015 I have no memory of any CD on my cruises. When do you actually see them?? Are they a part of the stuff around the main pool...we steer clear of that area typically. We do go to a few shows and I guess they do the intro.... If you want to see the CD, two of the best opportunities are, IMHO, the morning show on sea days and the welcome aboard show on the day of embarkation or the day after. The morning show is broadcast live on the TV, and the welcome aboard show is repeated on TV throughout the cruise. Other opportunities include: * Some of the shows where they host or even perform. They'll usually announce which they plan to do. * They host some of the trivia and other activities onboard. * They usually star in the disembarkation video that's broadcast ad nauseum on the last full day. * Various places where they walk around and hang around. I don't have anything to say on the original question (cruise directors have little to do with my personal happiness), but I'm curious why the number of entertainment directors is not, apparently, expanding. You'd think by the end of the year they would either expand their numbers or phase them out. Perhaps the experiment is continuing, or perhaps they've got all the EDs they care to use.
