Room service and to go food

There have been plates in the hallways on everyone one of my cruises. Especially first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. A good thing, I've never see any trays/plates in the hallways when I return from dinner, maybe that is when people are taking pictures of the clean hallways. I'm not sure people really expect people to take pictures of disgusting things to show their friends back home, but I guess to each their own. What is amazing is people who have never been on a NCL cruise insisting that there are no plates/trays in the hallways and calling others liars.

Or people who have never sailed NCL insisting the ships are filthy with overflowing garbage in the halls.

Yes, if they haven't been on a ship they wouldn't know that as well. For me, I have seen plates/trays in all my NCL cruises and I'm Platinum.

I don't believe anyone has ever said there are "no" plates in the hallways.

The argument (attempt) that's been made is that there are piles of dishes and old food and spilled food making the hallways unpassable and unsafe.

Which is hogwash.

And my (tongue in cheek) photo request was to make that clear. Anyone with half a brain knows that if there had ever been such a plate & food safety issue, we would ALL have heard about it... right here on CC... with loads of photos and hundreds of angry posts.

I do find it amusing how those who made the "piles" claims are now backtracking and trying to twist the history of this discussion though. ;)

There are trays and there are plates and there is uncovered uneaten food in the hallways, especially first thing in the morning and in the early afternoon. I've never seen any trays/plates when going to dinner or returning.

If there are plates/trays in the hallways and for someone in a wheelchair or walker the hallways are unpassable and unsafe unless the items are moved for them, so that they can get by....I've seen this happen. So not hogwash.

Who is twisting anything. I posted that there are trays and plates and uneaten food in the hallways and they have been on everyone of my cruises. I've never said there were at every cabin nor have I said there were piles or garbage in the hallways. Hopefully on your first NCL cruise the issue will be fixed and you will not have to see them.

BTW, enough people have posted on these thread that they have indeed seen them, so I guess it does exist.

I have only sailed on NCL once, but I have to say that I was appalled by the no carryout policy and did send NCL an email. How in the world do you tout a "freestyle" vacation and yet want to treat guests like children and police where they eat. I am very glad that people spoke out loudly because it would definitely have spread to other cruise lines if NCL could have made it stick. Great job to all those who posted, called, emailed and spoke out.

I am normally on the RCI boards, but I have to say that I have never seen anything like the few posters here, who without ever setting foot on a NCL cruise ship, feel that they know what is best for frequent NCL cruisers. It honestly boggles the mind that people who spoke out against the policy are called "Jeerleaders," "lazy," "slobs," "whiners," etc. Even worse, when people attempted to refute these labels, and point out that there is a right to protest an offensive policy and the absurdity of some of the comments defending the new policy and FDR, they are called "bullies."

This was truly a PR nightmare for NCL. Their explanation of the policy origins does not help. Management decisions are made on the fly after 1 person, tours 1 ship and supposedly sees plates everywhere and spills? The decision is made not to take their staff to task about cleaning more frequently, but instead to police your passengers. Sorry but I am not impressed with FDR or Andy Stuart because you should always put your best face forward to the public....not talk about how messy your ships are:rolleyes:.

Again, great job to all who spoke out!

I've seen more plates in the hallways of hotels in Vegas than I've seen on NCL ships.
And the hallways in the hotels in Las Vegas are so much wider than those on a cruise ship. BTW, you might want to try staying in the Laurel Collection at Caesars, as I very rarely see any trays in the hallways.

I agree with you. I never stated or implied that there were "piles" of garbage and dirty dishes in the hallways. The only posters who made those statements were the ones who insisted there were NO dishes in the hallways and called us liars.

I actually think its even worse if he really did it because of the dirty plates in the hallway. That's HIS CREWS job to remove them in a timely fashion. We the passengers shouldn't be punished if HIS CREW isn't doing their job. JMHO

Also if they want the plates to stay in the room then tell us. Put a note on room service tray or a note in the room-all dishes to stay in room not the hallway.[/quote

You are so correct ;)

Having been on several cruises on different cruise lines I just, like many, except the fact that there are plates in the hallway (even though I don't like it). What's the point of complaining about it. With NCL's policy decision it became a subject to be discussed. Just because we didn't complain about it before did not mean that this problem never existed. And why on earth would I ever want to take pictures of people's dirty dishes???

"What's the point of complaining about" policies or ship related conditions that affect your cruise negatively? Because it works. Recent events should tell you that.

Because if you and no one else ever points it out to the cruise line, how are they to ever know that you are displeased. Perhaps if you had long ago expressed strong frustration on board and in letters to customer service, it would not have taken this "take out ban" issue to finally prod NCL into thinking about how to keep the passage ways cleaner, perhaps by better staff training and procedures as it relates to RS and carryout plates.

Instead, you chose to blame your fellow passengers for a problem which was the responsibility of NCL all along. Why would you want to "take pictures of people's dirty dishes"? If I had the problems you described in getting down the hallways with your wife's wheelchair, believe me, many photos would have been emailed off with a letter of complaint.

I get it. Never blame the person who makes the mess. It's always the fault of the people who fail to clean up after you. (Steward. Waiter. Mom, etc. )

Isn't it the job of the crew to clean up the dishes whether in the cabin or in the hallway? Its not like there are signs saying do not put your dishes in the hallway...some people have no idea that what they are doing is wrong. BUT its the crews job to clean it up not the passengers.

to have the COO pointing the arrow clearly at the CEO that he directly reports to - is kind of "interesting" ;)

VERRRRY interesting. Stuart's comments paint a decidedly "loose cannon" picture of the CEO of NCLH!

I would not be surprised to hear, within a year, that one or the other has been given a "golden lifeboat."

He subscribes to the "I'm not happy until you're not happy" philosophy of life. :D

I don't mind that others have a different point of view than me. Discussion boards are for expressing and learning about different opinions and perspectives. Some people get pretty upset when an opposite viewpoint is expressed. How unfortunate. Nobody (including me) absolutely right or absolutely wrong. Even though both sides disagree with each other, both sides got what they wanted from NCL. Reversal of the "carry out" policy AND better (more prompt) clearing of the dirty dishes in the hallways. So let's call a truce. Peace & Goodwill to all my fellow NCL Cruisers.

Great idea. I'd do it. Day time plates picked up at turn down. Night time plTes picked up at make up!

Yay! Now I can go back to browsing the NCL site and picking out my next cruise. :)

On one of our NCL cruises, one of the "for-crew-use-only" areas in our hallway was used for temporary storage of the trays, etc. left in the hallways or cabins. The crew left the door open and our steward said we were free to leave our trays in there if we didn't want to leave them in our cabin for pickup. I thought that worked well. It meant we didn't have to have the trays taking up space in our cabin. It was totally optional of course.

Good news! I have read on another site the policy has been reversed, a statement as been released and now food can be taken out.

Those who cancelled their CRUISE----they should have waited---maybe NCL does respect those guests who sail with NCL.....HAPPY SAILING to those who stayed with NCL and to the rest...........!!!!!!!!

Maybe BECAUSE of those that cancelled their cruise because of this IS part of the reason it has been reversed.

If they had waited, there's a good chance Del Rio and company would have said "Yes, people are complaining on the internet... but they're not cancelling their cruises, are they?" and the policy would have remained in place.

Seeing some cancellations certainly helped send the message. I was surprised the response from NCL was so quick.
