Face time using ships wifi

I've read several posts on newbie threads but know we have super experts here on HAL. Can I use Face time with family at home using the ships wifi? With the "cheaper" internet on our ships I wonder if that will work.

As the "new" internet access is still phasing in, probably too soon to tell.

We used it a few years ago with the "old" internet system at sea in the Caribbean and it worked just fine.

It will depend where you're at, and how many people are using the ship's Internet at the same time. The available bandwidth to any given client fluctuates. I always take bandwidth (speed) measurements when we sail**, and the answer is a qualified "sometimes."

 

If you are under the new unlimited plans, you'll probably need to be on the high end one. Certain services & destinations are restricted on the lower cost plans. (I don't know which services / destinations.)

 

**Because I like to know if I should try to attempt something productive, or stick to email. Also some people usually want know. Yes, they're my fellow geeks.

Thank you for your replies. DD wants to see Cartagena (Romancing the Stone movie) and I hoped I could FT her from the top deck.
