Buenos Aires - How to Spend Day Before Flight?

Recommended Posts

Hi All - This coming October we are taking the Zaandam from San Diego to Buenos Aires. When we leave the ship in Buenos Aires, and until our flight that evening at 11:00 PM, we will have suitcases. I'm looking for suggestions on what we could do, other than rent a hotel room for the day, to have a way to store our luggage and do something fun as well as get to the airport at a reasonable time. Our group's ages range from 60 to 75 so fun for us is pretty tame stuff. Thank you in advance for helpful tips.

HAL will likely offer excursions. Your bags will go on the bus for the duration of the excursion.

Or you could go over to the South America board and see what others have done.

In a different port, we were in a similar situation but the HAL tour was not what we were interested in so went to the airport, checked our luggage in (okay, we got strange looks) then went on our way. The city had a great metro system that had an airport stop, so we used that to get around. We had a great day, hopped on our flight and our luggage was coming down the carousel when we got to baggage claim when we arrived at home.

Maybe you can use Luggage Direct from BA - not sure though??

No such thing as Luggage Direct from BA, and the airport is far from the city. Perhaps you can find a hotel to hold your bags for a fee. The HAL post-cruise tours are your best bet. If none of the HAL offerings post-cruise are of interest, I can't really offer another option.

I took the HAL Tango show and city tour. Not sure the young ones would be interested in sitting that long. It might not hold their attention. When they dropped us off at EZE it was still early and we could not yet check in nor drop off luggage. This was in 2013.

There were several people on our roll call who booked private tours that included drop off at the airport and luggage handling. The South America board would be a good place to post, as previously suggested.

A bit of warning: BA pier is not only far from city, but getting to the ship is not an easy feat. First of all it is often very difficult to find the exact location of where to get out of taxi or other transportation to be processed and get on ship. The pier area is miles in length.

Once you do find the appropriate dropoff, then it seems like planes/trans/autos till you actually get onboard. You take elevators, buses etc ..

If you navigate all this, you see that going ashore requires rat in a maze type movements in reverse and is quite lengthy unlike most other ports.

This is MHO and I dread each time we are involved with BA.

This is a case where it might be worth it to hire a private car either through HAL or one of the private tour companies. Maybe someone on your roll call is doing something for a group. I think BA is one of the most fascinating cities of the world and there is much to see

agree. A private tour would also enable you to have your luggage taken care of as well if it is just the two of you and you let the guide know the extent of your luggage.

BA is a wonderful city and shouldn't be missed :)

We had a great time with Tomas, Bonaventura Tours. After we met at the hotel, we talked about what we wanted to see and then we were off for a great day of touring. (We also did his Delta tour on a second day - wonderful also.)

This March we took the HAL excursion after debarkation and still had a very long wait at the airport. Airline check in desks weren't open until 3 hours before flight time and the waiting area has limited seating and amenities. Once you check in and clear security the terminal is fine with lots of comfortable seats and restaurants plus shopping. Enjoy your day and take a private tour of the city that includes a leisurely lunch before you get dropped off at the airport.
