Dishonest cruise passengers

Recommended Posts

Going thru Customs 5/16 from a cruise on the Oasis, I accidently left my camera bag on the desk at Station 20 and when I went back about 5 minutes later, it was gone! Our pictures and a Nikkon D7100 with multiple lenses went home with someone who knew he/she was stealing a camera. Customs does NOT use cameras to monitor anything. RCCL uses facial recognition software to match you with photos taken on board. How can people be that heartless to steal your memories.

I would post on the RC Facebook page in a non-accusatory fashion that you lost your camera bag. You might get a surprise. Good luck.

A few years ago we had a man pick up my wife's D 7000 and walk away from customs. We found him entering the car garage as he was pulling off the bright orange name tag with my wife's name embroidered on it.

My 27 year old son told him to hand over the camera. The guy said to ......... ourselves. I turned to get security and turned back as I heard the knuckles on jaw sound followed by the thud of thief to ground.

One son picked up camera, second son pulled name tag out of his hand, daughter screamed unmentionables at him and wife drug daughter away before kick was delivered.

I handed contact info to security in case some well meaning authority wanted to discuss western justice with us. No one did.

Thief removed self from ground to steal another day. I lectured boys and daughter on proper behavior then high fever all.

Sometimes you have to do it yourself.

hi sis judy, how do you measure your head ?

Here are the Tilley instructions:

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEAD

Most hat makers make 4 or 5 sizes; we make 13.

Like footwear, your Tilley Hat must be sized properly. To find your hat size, use a tape measure and draw it right around your head. For the best-looking and most comfortable fit, please make sure that the bottom of the tape touches right above your eyebrows while resting straight around your head. Hold it there comfortably and do not pull tight! Tell us this measurement in inches or centimetres. We’ll take it from there.

You may also refer to our Hat Sizing Chart below for an easy reference to your Tilley Hat size.

If you already know your regular (not a Tilley) hat size, please ask for one size larger when you order your Tilley. For instance, if you’re sure you’re a 7¼, order a 7⅜.

The Tilley Hat fits more comfortably than other hats. It’s designed to be worn low on your head and slightly loose. It should be held on by gravity, not by painful pressure on your forehead! For the proper fit, you should be able to easily insert two fingers, flat, between the middle of your forehead and the front of the Hat. The Hat should be loose enough that you can rotate it to the left and right, and lift it up and down, without friction on your forehead. When it’s windy, use the cord!

Hope that helps!

Judy

I had something similar happen leaving the Breakaway last Sunday. To make things easier for debarkation I used a card wallet for key card, drivers license and a few cc. I put my key card in the machine and binged out. I put the key card back in the card wallet and dropped it in an outside pocket of my purse. Took out my phone and texted the driver that we were on our way. Put the phone away and reached for the card wallet to transfer to inside of my purse. It was gone! I contacted security and retraced my steps. It was gone. I'm hoping someone picked it up and will mail it back to me. I will never again walk and text at the same time! I need to pay attention at all times. I had all the cards cancelled by the time the driver arrived at the port. The big problem was the drivers license but have solved that problem.

Sorry for your loss. What does the above quote have to do with anything? I'm confused as to the purpose of your note. Are you staying neither of these organizations would have taken the camera thinking it was yours or neither of them have the facilities to locate the thief?

I took it to mean that Customs had no way to identify the thief since they don't monitor the area with cameras.

KUDO's to your kids. I love this story.

I had a friend that lost their camera on the first day of the cruise. Well I say lost but they knew where they left it but it was gone as soon as we discovered what they did. Everytime we saw a camera onboard that week that looked like it, we gave them a good stare. But had no way to identify it. I am amazed at the lack of integrity in people these days. I could never just walk off with someone's belongings especially something that has precisou memories involved. Geez.

So sorry for OP loss.

I left diamond earrings on the nightstand once while checking out of a hotel room, less than 10 minutes had passed by the time I realized I had left them and despite security knowing that the housekeeper in there when I went back up was the only person who had been in and out of the room, they refused to take any action. I had a plane to catch so I couldn't wait for the police to arrive and was left with no choice but to walk away :(

I just wanted to say that there are honest people. My camera fell out of my purse on the dance floor and the people who found it returned it to me when they noticed I was looking for it. They were checking the pics to see if they could find the owner!

So sorry that happened :( Unfortunately, way too many people are dishonest. It happened to me at work. I took my rings off at lunch time one day to go workout and when I got to the park and ride that evening I realized I did not have them but I thought "oh, they are in my desk drawer, they will be fine". However, the next day I went to get them and the very expensive topaz and diamond ring was gone and the cheap costume ring was still in my desk. Anyone who knows me knows the peridot is a fake and the topaz was real so I knew it could not have been someone who did not work there as they would have taken them both.

S*cks when you can't even trust people you have worked with for years :(

I have a small camera I wear around my neck on a cord. We went to a state fair and somehow the clip unhooked from the cord and fell off as we were heading to the concession stand. We looked everywhere when we returned and couldn't find it... but someone sitting behind us noticed us looking and asked what for.. we told them and they told us who they seen pick it up, it was an employee. We tracked them down and asked and thankfully they gave it back! I'm paranoid now!

On a cruise a few years back while I unpacked our carry ons my husband along with our brand new expensive camera toured the ship. He stopped into a lounge for a drink and was heading back to the room when he realized the camera was still in the lounge. Only a few minutes passed but the camera was gone.

He was in rare form when he returned to the room. We went to CS to check their lost and found. No camera. However much later in the day he returned to lost & found and behold the camera.

We are forever grateful to the finder and assume the delay in turning the camera in was due to their wandering the ship after embarkation. This would have been a very sad vacation losing this within the first few moments.

So there are good folks out there....put in a call to both the terminal and cruise line. Follow up with email and maybe you too will be surprised. I am hoping for the best.

DPOSTMAN - I like your Tilley! And I know, as a Tilley wearer, you probably understand my pain - haha! (But I know your hat in the pic is not mine - looks like yours is an LT6 and mine was an LT5 with a slightly smaller brim.) Yours is like my DH's Tilley. That one is a very dashing look on a man, I think!:p

We were on a cruise on Freedom a few years ago and attended a champagne sail away party on the helipad. It was fascinating - must have been about a dozen Tilley people out there. Of course we all found each other and talked…and a gust of wind took one guy's hat overboard. It was the small brimmed one with the side snaps for the brim. He was pissed!!! We all watched the hat as we passed it and sailed away, and (in case you wondered…) they do indeed float!

Happy travels in your Tilley! And don't forget to use the strap system in windy situations...;)

Judy

Don't you get a free Tilley if yours get lost or stolen?

on our recent cruise my Mum lost her phone as well as her new sunglasses and a bag containing a couple of small things she'd brought in port. she went to guest services to ask if it had been handed in but they hadn't seen it. So now she was panicking that she'd left it in port. She wasn't to worried about the things she'd brought, the sunglasses or even the phone itself, but the phone had pictures on of our 10 week old kitten that we sadly lost just before the cruise and that's what had upset her the most.

Anyway, she and my Auntie backtracked around the cruise ship and couldn't find it. My Mum went to guest relations for the next 2 days morning and afternoon asking if anyone had found it and eventually after 2 full days of worry about losing the photos, a member of staff from the windjammer had found it and handed it in. We never found out why it took them so long to hand it in but we were all glad the items came back, especially the phone with the photos on.

I am leery about putting my name and address on anything that might be found and advertise that I am away from home.

My name, phone number, e-mail and work address are the first photo on all my camera cards. I don't put my home address, but figure the work address is safe enough.

Don't you get a free Tilley if yours get lost or stolen?

Yeah, but there's a time limit on that - can't remember if it's one year or what, but since my original Tilley was WELL broken in at about 8 years old, I didn't qualify for the free replacement.:( (And my story wasn't nearly as good as that elephant guy's story - I bet Alex Tilley offered HIM a free replacement no matter how old his hat was!:D)

We've found things on ships and in our cabin as well and always (except once - see below) we've taken the items to GS and turned them in. I've always wished we could get a report back to let us know the items had been returned to the owners. Once it was a tote bag/purse left under a pool chair, twice we've retrieved and turned in books, once we found a man's wedding band in the corner of our safe, once a little camera in the corner of a closet shelf, once a duffle bag of guy shoes under the bed, and some clothes in drawers a couple of times.

But the REAL find was on a Carnival ship (our only Carnival cruise, in 2014, which we did enjoy - the Breeze was a nice ship, cruise was decent, and I'd do it again, though I did miss my RC D+ perks.) The safe had a rubber mat in the bottom of it and the mat was kind of curled up against one side. So I pulled it up and out to straighten it. There were two 100 dollar bills, folded in quarters, under that mat! First I asked DH if he had put them there, and he hadn't. Then we spent the entire first night debating what to do about this. We realized that the bills might have been there for awhile and didn't necessarily belong to the last occupants of our cabin. Since it was cash, we had no idea what might happen to it if we turned it over to GS. We did inquire at GS late that night if any of the recent occupants of our cabin had reported leaving some cash behind. We asked GS to notify us if this happened. After 3 days we had heard nothing. (And we heard nothing for the rest of the cruise.)

So…we didn't turn it in. On Day 4 we took it to the Casino and turned those two hundreds into 30 fives and 50 ones, which we divided up between the two of us. We used our small bills to tip all kinds of bartenders, bar servers, room service people, towel attendants in the thermal spa, etc. We even tipped guys cleaning off tables at the buffet. We tipped several people who were cleaning public restrooms when one of us was in there - the look on their faces was priceless. The last night of the cruise we still had 60 bucks, so we gave $20 apiece to our waiter, assistant waiter, and cabin attendant in addition to the normal tips. So somebody was generous with extra tips on our cruise…or maybe we were generous with somebody's money? (I guess it was our version of 'trickle down economics' using found money.)

In truth, we both feel kind of guilty about taking possession of somebody's money, even though we didn't really keep it. We kind of redistributed it. In reality, we both know it's impossible to identify the person who lost the money. I have dealt with my guilt over keeping that $200 with the knowledge that if I had left 200 bucks in cash behind, I'd be delighted if the finder did what we did and gave it all to hard-working crew members. And to whoever out there lost that 200 bucks, please know that it's been paid forward for you.

Judy

P.S. You should always check your safe VERY CAREFULLY before you disembark...:o

Well....

Maybe it went to a "Lost and Found", and maybe it did not get there right away.

Maybe it was picked up by someone in error.

Maybe it was knocked over and tossed.

Maybe it was "lifted" by a port employee, vendor, cruise staff.

Maybe it was stolen by another passenger.

Lots of things could and do happen.

Not all people are dishonest!! If I found something that was not mine, I wouldn't keep it.

On our cruise a few weeks ago I had my IPhone in my pool bag (which is pink but clear) and something told me to keep my bag in my sight. So when my friends and I were in the hot tub I put my bag right across from me somewhat hooked on the rail. While I was just talking with friends and people in the hot tub I saw a girl point at my bag and get closer to it. Shortly after she started unzipping my bag (my phone was in the front small pocket). I jumped up and said hey that's my bag. At this point she began to rummage through it. As I got out of the water and walked towards her, I again said very sternly that's my bag..and she zipped my bag back up, put her hands over her mouth as if to motion she was mistaken that it wasn't her bag. She then walked away quickly. This all happened in a split second. I normally do not bring a phone or anything "to babysit" with me to the pool area, but we were taking pictures around the ship.

If any one try to view my pictures, the first one will be my contact info. I have lost 2 cameras in my life. One I left it accidentally on top of my car and it end up in the avenue. Hours later I got a call from a guy telling that the camera was broken ( I even got it back) but he inserted the me it card in his computer and saw my info picture. In another occasion my mom left the camera, case , and lenses on top of a table at a park. I got a call minutes laters telling me that he was still at the park willing to give r the camera back

Yes, there are dishonest people but sometimes an honest person doesn't know how to give it back to his owner when he doesn't know where to call

I'm hoping since they have my drivers license that they will mail it back along with the cc!
