CAS Question

Was anything posted about whether existing offers will be "recomputed" based on this new threshold on June 1, or if it's based on play after that date?

I'm curious because I was told last week that I have an offer for a comped balcony cabin that I have to book by July 31. I wonder whether that offer will change tomorrow (when the mostly free UBP becomes an available choice again) to a lower category comp based on this new "theoretical loss" threshold or whether it's new offers made as of June 1 that will be based on the new levels.

My guess would be that there would be no change to that comp.

Hi Folks,

We just completed our first cruise using CAS for booking. (Breakaway May 17th)

As usual we spent far too much time (and money :) ) in the casino. We are in the process of thinking about our next cruise. I know that you don't need to wait for a CAS offer to book another cruise with them...but I am wondering if there is some timeframe before what they will offer us based on last cruise is available? Is there any lag from competing our last cruise and eligible play from it?

What is CAS? We are new to NCL and have 2 cruises booked on Getaway in the next 4 months, 1 on RCCL and are looking at a couple of others for next summer. Thanks

CAS = casinos at sea. If you gamble a fair amount you can get comps for cabins on future cruises make sure you use your card when playing. If you are a table player well let's say it's HUGE money you need to spend. Example.....my friend who played tables 95% of the time a small amount on slots got about 1000 points for last week. I played slots 95% of the time and a little on tables and ended with 3500 points so slot play equates to more slot points than tables. And we played about the same amount of time.

Thanks much for the info, so is there a chart that shows what the points equal? We also go at least once to the casino but have never inserted our seapass card, is it that card or a different one?

CAS Casino at Sea...NCL's casino program.

I deal directly w them (but last cruise I used certificate from my land casino) I always call CAS after a cruise and see what I my offers are. From 12 day in Jan and 2 day in Feb, I booked Bermuda for next year and another 2 day.

They are very accommodating.

Oh, and the post re 45K- actual 2700ish loss? SPOT ON!

TABLE GAMES: Reward Points are based on average bet, session play or hands played and game type.

REEL & VIDEO SLOTS: For every $5 coin-in, receive 1 point.

VIDEO POKER: For every $10 coin-in, receive 1 point.

LOL - Yes, but that doesn't mean you actually played that amount of money from your wallet. It just 'went through' between the wins you left in the machine and played, wins then played, etc. etc. etc.

CAS or any other casino is not going to give somebody a free room unless they gamble enough to cover the cost of the cabin. So, if your gambling budget is a few hundred bucks, do the math. Remember, this is a business, not a government handout.

They track your play and amount of money at risk and do some calculations and decide how much they want to "bet" on your future play.

Free or heavily discounted cabins may be available one week and not the next or one ship and not another.

Again, the reason they do this is they hope/plan/bet on your spending enough money in the casino to cover the cost of the cabin.

I was comped a few cruises for an inside cabin both from CAS direct and a few from a land based casino.

With my past few cruises I have cut my time in the casino and my gambling budget substantially but was surprised that they still offered me a discount on my upcoming Breakaway cruise.

So, its worth a phone call even if you only save a percentage. My TA could not beat the discounted price and I have checked some prices online and the phone call saved me about 25%.

Thanks folks for your suggestions of contacting CAS soon after our last cruise. Did just that and we were comped a balcony on Breakaway (again) in September. Now the losses we incurred last month are not so bad! :D

Thanks again! :)

Playing 1 day in the casino will not get you anything unless you are a seriously heavy better on the tables ($500.00 a hand) or playing the $25.00/$100.00 slot machines. Generally speaking most of us getting comps are playing several hours every day on a cruise. We are the people sitting at machines/tables on day 1 just waiting for the casino to flip the switch on and on the last night being tapped on the shoulder "Ms. Cathy the casino will be closing in 15 minutes" type of people lol.

In answer to your question about the card, on the new ships you can use your keycard or you can request a casino card from the promotions desk.

tap tap! LOL.....yup, you need to spend some serious time and/or $$$. One cruise, I got caught up w the machines and by day 3 the hosts smiled and welcomed me by name as I walked in or rubbed me on the back when I had a bonus round...yuy yuy yuy! DH whispered in my ear..how much are down ????? LOL

You do have to gamble enough to "cover the cruise" so nothing is "free" but we do end up cruising more often since the free/discounted cruises allow us to get on the boat cheaply and I can decide how much I want to gamble/spend on entertainment. ;)

But, if you spend anytime in the casino, get a card. It's free, so why not? You could hit a rain/bad weather cruise and spend more time in there than usual.......;)

This time.....I'm going to go to the sail-away party and stay until it ends! I say this everytime! LOL And me? I usually get, "Ms. Harriet, the casino cash cage will be closing in 15 minutes, is there anything you need before that". LOL

::shaking head:: something's wrong with all of us. LOL

However, my play will be different from this cruise on....as their rules have changed = my playing is going to change.

As a point of reference, I ran upper 5-digits on BJ over a week and pulled ~950 points.

Craps comps tend to feel disproportionately small since odds usually don't count. No edge on them, after all.

As a craps player, I can certainly echo this sentiment. A casino advantage of less than one half of one percent on the pass line means you have to spend a fair amount of money and time to get to the "theoretical loss" threshold of $2,800 for a comped cruise. At a $5 craps table, with multiple come bets in play you MIGHT be able to accrue up to 80 or 90 cruise points an hour with $5 play. In theory, you would have to "wager" about a half a million dollars in total at craps over the course of a cruise to "theoretically" lose $2,800. That's a hundred thousand five dollar bets - good luck with that :)

Also, as mentioned, the odds bets have zero house advantage so they don't get factored in to your play. I'm guessing that my upcoming cruises may be my last comped cruises as the prospect of wagering a half a million dollars (even though 99.5% of it is expected to be returned…) is a bit disconcerting… :)

Yes, I found out a long time ago with craps - better off placing bets then playing the come bets. Like you said, "Odds don't count".

if they're not giving you credit for the odds bet, then they should rate your passline as 1.4% house edge. :p

yeah, they probably don't do that.

so it's a double whammy.. don't count your odds $ and still rate your bet as 99.6% return.

I do passline and only place the 6/8.

dont make lousy house edge bets to get comps. (ie: place the 5/9)

you're basically paying for the comps.

I play at the land casinos and they gave me a comp to NCL. I'm gonna play regardless if they give me anything at all. Just another part of my entertainment and if so happens (and which CAS did) give me a future comp then it's topping on the cake. I relax and enjoy a few hours in the casino.

For me, much 'easier' to get a comp cruise from land casinos. On land I can make many more points on my video poker dollar than at sea. The odds on those CAS machines are horrid...but I play some for fun:rolleyes:
