CruisingWithMySister Posted June 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2015 I checked the FAQ's, and didn't find anything. Recently I was told by a friend that she was not allowed to bring her camera with changeable lenses on her cruise. Not sure what line it was, but has anyone ever heard of this. I'd like to bring a small camera bag with lenses with me.
erocrobro Posted June 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2015 I took my camera bag with my whole setup in it. They were all over the ship.

I'd like to bring a small camera bag with lenses with me. I have no idea where your friend got her information, nor which cruise line had such a rule. We have always brought our film  and dslr cameras with multiple lenses and flashes on every one of our 19 cruises.

chrisdridley Posted June 15, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2015 Was on the Glory last month and there was a guy with a camera bag bigger than some suitcases. He seemed to be changing lens every time I saw him.
Rare trippingpara Posted June 15, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2015 That is hogwash, pardon my French. I'm a camera junky and I brought my entire stable of cameras with me including all of my lenses. In fact, I was often chatting with the photographers comparing gear and techniques. The only time I was not allowed to bring my cameras was on the Behind the Fun tour. For security reasons, no electronics are allowed on your person at all. Other than that, they were with me at all times.
mapsmith Posted June 15, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 15, 2015 The only possible explanation is that the friend was a professional photographer and was pursuing her trade. Either by being a photographer for a wedding, or some modeling gig. The cruise contract prohibits conducting business on the cruise. You cannot offer services on board, particularly ones that compete with the Cruise Line. Or she may have been planning on filming a porno?

CruiseReg Posted June 15, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 15, 2015 I have cruised with a minimum of 3 lens and sometimes a monopod with either a DSLR or my new favorite Mirrorless Sony A6000 for literally years. No issues at all. Cruise #23 and #24 in July and August on Carnival will be no different.
GUT2407 Posted June 15, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 15, 2015 The most I've ever taken was a SLR (film) DSLR 10 lenses compact film and compact digital (this was when digital was new). Together with a few flashes a mono-pod and a tripod (then while I was away I bought some camera gear :D) I knew the ports and knew what gear I wanted in each port. Upcoming cruise I will have DSLR Missorless Compact Probably 10-12 lenses Maybe a film SLR 3 0r 4 flashes Mono and Tri pods Maybe more.
cccer Posted June 15, 2015 #12 Share Posted June 15, 2015 Not sure what that's about, but I have never heard of a camera being denied boarding. They are to busy looking for smuggled booze.
Inklight Posted June 15, 2015 #13 Share Posted June 15, 2015 I have never had a problem bringing my camera equipment on a cruise. I usually bring a dSLR, multiple lenses, flashes and a tripod. My husband does the same, in fact he often brings a light stand, too. We spend a large part of the cruise with our cameras all over the ship. No one has ever said anything to us … other than a few people and ship's photographers interested in what we were doing. The only place we weren't allowed to bring them was on the Behind the Fun Tour … but, there were no electronics whatsoever allowed.
BallFour4 Posted June 15, 2015 #14 Share Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) ... I'm a camera junky and I brought my entire stable of cameras with me including all of my lenses... One of the first steps in recovery is admitting you have a problem. I'll see you in therapy. Last cruise camera bag: Canon 70d, three lenses, Go Pro, Canon 110 point and shoot, Fuji X100t, Nikon 3100 I bought refurbished and wanted to try it out. Other than that, it was a simple photo bag. .
