Thanks so much to the OP for posting this. My sister and her fiance had booked the 3/19 cruise as part of a wedding trip with several friends. My sister really wanted to get married on a Hawaii beach on 3/16 (ties in to John 3:16 in the Bible). I called her when I read this and they just called the cruise line to confirm (they did not know about this). The person they spoke with couldn't give them much more info and asked them to call back on Monday. They really want to do this cruise so will probably book for a later month. It's just tough because there are several couples involved. Her fiance was going to make arrangements this week to rent a condo, so they are very happy I called (not so happy about the change). She doesn't want to get married on the ship so the SFO departure won't work for them.

I did this cruise last year and as much as I loved it, it was going to be too expensive for me this time, so I'm just planning to join them in Oahu for a few days.

I think the prices are quite steep for all cat . But I don't know how many sea days but it looks like a lot and no overnights at Kuaui or Maui.

I think NCL is trying to recoup casino losses for all the sea days.

Nice overnight on that cruise Kauai.....no casino losses since there isn't a casino on the Pride of America. 5 wonderful sea days at the beginning of the cruise.

Thu Nawiliwili, Kauai 8:00 am --- Fri Nawiliwili, Kauai --- 2:00 pm

Wow' date=' I just looked at the SFO-Hawaii sailing, and the suites are already sold out! That would be a great sailing.[/quote']

I'm wondering if that part of the ship is going to be under construction and they don't want to take any chances, maybe they will open them up at a later date, there is no way they would be sold out.

Looking at all other dates on both sides of the dry dock date there are suites galore available.

Repo cruises for POA will always be high. First there is the US flag cost, which keeps the normal 7 day cruises high. Then, you have to add in a vastly increased fuel consumption. On the normal cruises, the ship is "at sea" about 60 hours in 7 days. This cruise will have over 170 hours in 11 days, and these won't be the "slow steaming" that she does around the islands.

Wondering how others who are affected are making out, We chose a new date last Friday but still don't know what is happening with our reservation. Not sure if its our TA or NCL trying to figure out how to transfer our rate and perks but we are in limbo right now.

From a friend who is still with NCL, the POA was scheduled for drydock this year. This would have been her second 5-year drydock, which is mandated, whereas the 2013 drydock was primarily to do the suite upgrades. However, the docking was planned for Pearl Harbor. San Francisco Drydock has a deal to use the Navy's Pearl Harbor drydock whenever available, and the POA was booked in, but the Navy rescheduled and NCL lost the slot. This is why this notification is so short, they had to scramble to find an open slot on the West Coast to fit the legal time frame for docking. NCL tries to dock her in Hawaii, since it saves fuel over repositioning to the West Coast for docking, but this kind of thing is the downside to that.

So, this will be a routine shipyard from a technical side, but apparently the new management of FDR and Andy Stewart want a lot of upgrades to the hotel side. Sorry, no information as to what those are.

I've booked the Msr 26th date but now I'm questioning myself as I have no clue as to whether these drydock things run on schedule or is there a possibility at the last minute the Mar 26 week could be cancelled. The business class airfare I'm looking at is about $8 thousand for the two of us so to book & then find cruise was cancelled would not be good.

The SF shipyard is not a Navy yard, so the time block that POA has now, is theirs without anyone having a prior claim. There is always a chance of running over schedule, but there is a chance of any cruise, any time, anywhere, being cancelled or shortened. This is what trip insurance is for.

Also, what appeared to be a month long shipyard (28 days) is now not looking so major, since you are taking 5 days off each end for the crossing to/from Hawaii. Since it doesn't look like they are selling the Hawaii to SFO crossing, I would guess that they are planning on doing a lot of demo work on this crossing to save time in the yard.

Thanks for the update. The suites and studios are not available (or showing sold out from the get go) on the SFO-HNL run so they must be doing something major in those areas, at least that is my guess.

My sister's fiance worked things out with their PCC.

They are booking the San Francisco departure but will join up with the ship when it arrives in Maui. The date of their wedding had personal significance and they didn't want to move it, but if they boarded the ship in SF, they would have had to get married on board, and they wanted to have a beach wedding.

The ship will not comp the sea days they will miss (which makes sense -- they can't resell them for those days) but they will pay for a couple of hotel nights in Maui. They're traveling with three other couples, so this is really helping them work things out. They didn't give them any other discount but booked them in aft balconies. So they'll fly into Oahu as planned for their wedding, then pay for the transfer flight to Maui. Overall, they're satisfied as they'll get their planned time in Oahu, two days in Maui, and continue with the rest of the itinerary as normal.

I'm glad things worked out in the end. I had rebooked to the Mar 26th cruise but with work in the end it meant staff were going to have to change their plans etc. so in the end today I cancelled the Mar 26 cruise and rebooked on the Jade for Mar 19. 2017 will be my year for Hawaii

We were scheduled for the 09-12 March cruise. We were notified by our RCI TA regarding the cancellation, and we decided to cancel and get a refund. We'll target a cruise again in 2017. We also had a timeshare scheduled in Kauai for 2 weeks prior to the cruise and cancelled that also, getting our points back to use elsewhere. So we'll make use of our timeshare points and book a beach resort somewhere, either in south FL or Myrtle Beach SC.

Taking a post dry-dock repositioning cruise is not without risk. It is unlikely the cruise would be canceled - no more risk than any other cruise - but a day or so delay leaving the shipyard is possible. This would just cost you one of the port calls in HI. What is more likely - almost certain actually - is that there will be some ongoing completion and clean up work that will close some normal passenger areas.

It looks like a great cruise. I am already booked or I would take it.

I think the op is referring to flights just opened up for San Fran to Hawaii

Nope, as mentioned here it's a repositioning cruise to take the POA back to Hawaii. I wish I could swing it, but I can't do it in 2016. It's sounds like such a nice trip too. :(

Just found all of this out today! Never received notification until an email today with my cancellation confirmation for our 2/20 sailing. No explanation. So we called and found out, and of course I came here to CC to see what was happening. We wanted to reschedule to either 2/6 or 2/13 but our category is sold out for both sailings. Not sure what to do? We have Disney Aulani booked on points for 7 nights starting 2/13 and would possibly need to move those dates. I don't think we have enough points just to add nights there. Ugh, so disappointed.

I pray they are putting bedroom walls in the SD category (13002 and 13502) - since the NCL site says there are and really they are not there!!!

They just remodeled these rooms from 2 bedrooms suites to Owners Suites in 2013. They took out a room and a bathroom to make a big owners suite. I booked this room and when I realized that there was no second bedroom and no second bath I changed to another OS cabin with a 1 and 1/2 bath. We have 4 women (sisters) in this cabin and one bathroom wasn't going to cut it.:)

Hopefully after the dry dock NCL will update the POA website to show what rooms are where with correct amenities and configurations with measurements.
