4774Papa Posted June 22, 2015 #26 Share Posted June 22, 2015 It appears that the roll call for our Sept 2016 cruise on the Sun has not attracted anyone but me. I wonder if not many have booked the cruise yet or do roll calls for Alaska not generate many joiners?
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 22, 2015 #27 Share Posted June 22, 2015 Some roll calls take awhile to get active. You still have a long way till your cruise. Keith

It is still early yet. We have about 15 members in our roll call for May 2016 right now. Only a few were at the beginning of our roll call. Some Roll Calls never take off, but, frankly- you are WAY early. :) (I don't have this season's plans in place or cruises booked yet. :) )

Perhaps there is something about Alaska cruises.
Dancer9933 Posted June 22, 2015 #31 Share Posted June 22, 2015 I didn't join my role call until last week and we leave in 50 days. Relax we only booked a year out and we planned first then looked for the roll call.
Krimson Posted July 27, 2015 #32 Share Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) There are some big errors with some of the above assumptions. There is NO issue with getting refunds booked direct, and the vendor canceling the tour. ... With booking direct- I don't know of ANY vendor who does not refund, if they cancel a tour. I agree and book most of our tours directly. My best success was in booking with a tour company in Roatan. There were several activities offered by the company that we couldn't choose from, so I worked with the company via email to construct a package deal that combined 6 different activities (parasailing, snorkeling the reef, drinks and swimming at the beach, ziplining the forest, horseback riding and tour of the area) into a single tour with a car and driver that picked us up and took us back to the dock and stayed the whole day with us for under $200 each for the three of us. However, one cruise we were forced off course by Hurricane Ivan and only made one of our ports, at which most activities had been canceled. We didn't make to any of our other ports. If we'd prepaid private excursions on that cruise it might have been hard to get refunds. However, many privately arranged excursions require only a modest deposit or no prepayment as they understand these concerns. Also, we have had very good luck in big cruise ports not prebooking, just walking down the dock looking at local offerings. waverley7 Posted July 28, 2015 #34 Share Posted July 28, 2015 I haven't ever participated in a roll call. I am not sure what purpose they serve. Enlighten me? Hi Krimson The Roll calls are to meet other's prior to cruising. You get chatting on here and get to know people. Alot of times, they do a roll call meet and greet on the ship. This way all the people you have chatted with for months will get to meet you and you them. (I have a best friend in Las Vegas from a Cruise Critic Roll call & meet and greet. We met, we partied, now we travel together!) It's also good if you are looking at excursions independently and you can join others or they you to make more people and the price is cheaper. It's alot of fun! Go join yours!! :) Happy Cruising

This is a general opportunity of roll calls, but rarely the case with Alaska touring.
