Heard from Carnival

After our last cruise on Conquest we answered the on line survey and gave them bad ratings for cold food in the MDR and the non enforcement of people vaping. They called several days ago and wanted to know more and gave us a $50 obc on our next cruise. Not bad

Never heard of this happening before, very good to know! It pays to give good, honest, constructive feedback :)

I will often send Carnival a written letter after our cruise to both point out the great service we experienced from our best bartenders, waiters, or our steward and also point out anything that might not have been up to standard. The good always far outweighs the bad. And I think it's important to recognize those that do a great job (and hopefully Carnival recognizes them as well). But when I have done this, I have gotten a small OBC to use on a future cruise. It's nice that the feedback seems to be appreciated.

Supposedly, they stopped giving OBCs for feeback several years ago.

Now everyone will be pulling out their ancient Platinum stationery and writing letters hoping to get something for nothing.

Wait. People don't actually write letters these days, do they? :p

I sailed Conquest 5/31 and filled out my survey; told them all about my unpleasant encounter with a girl at the service desk. Haven't heard a word from them.

I submitted a survey about our Glory cruise this past March and it was pretty harsh. Not a word back from anyone, nor did I expect it. I did, however, expect our room steward to clean our room and let the kids' beds down the first night but he was nowhere to be found. Also our Three Stooges wait staff was ridiculous, and no I did not remove the tips even after not returning to the MDR to eat dinner. Despite all that, we made the best of it and had fun.

Good deal for you, and sorry your thread got jacked.

It is nice to know Carnival actually reads the surveys!

I can attest to the fact Carnival not only reads the survey comments, but also passes positive comments to the crew.

There was a fantastic musician on a recent sailing. He was very engaged with guests and remembered repeat audience members. The last night he passed out a card to guests with his social media sites and website to download a few of his tracks.

I left a specific positive comment and mentioned this soloist by name. A couple weeks later he posted a picture of crew bulletin board with my comment and his name highlighted. I am thrilled that not only did Carnival read the survey, but the comment made it back to him.

That's very cool!

Thanks for sharing your Carnival experience with us. It is encouraging. I just responded to a Carnival survey asking about my recent customer service experience. I sure hope I get a response from them because I have several unresolved issues.

I used to have food served only tepid and learned the first day of the cruise to let the server know it's been a problem. Then I'd get hot food every time.

I made several comments, got a call and got $50 OBC and dinner in the Steakhouse in an email. Took the email with me. Asked front desk how SH would deal with this, I pay and get credited or no charge? I was told 4 times I didn't get SH dinner at no charge, that the $50 OBC was to go toward that. I had her read the email 4 times before she read it properly.

Unfortunately had a terrible tough steak, could get so much as water, no servers responding but rather cleaning tables while I waited and waited. Rest of the dinner was very good but that steak was unrecognizable and too tough to enjoy at all. Left most of it since I couldn't get it replaced by the absent servers.

I was on the Magic last year and kept having to go to the lobby during the night because my toilet wouldn't flush. It wasn't consistently not working but almost everytime around 4am it would not work.

I wasn't upset or acting annoyed, but I would go to GS and just turn in another report. After being down there for the 3rd night in a row, I told them I appreciated that the plumbers keep thinking they are getting it fixed but they are and I was really tired of coming to the Lobby.

The next day a whole crew of plumbers came to my cabin and completely rebuilt the flushing mechanism and found a crack in a pipe that wasn't always allowing the vacume system to work properly.

Later that day GS called and told us they had put a $50pp OBC on our account for our inconvenience.

Free dinner + no tip = poor service?

I'm curious you figure there was no tip? The tip generally comes at the end of the meal.

It sounds like the no tip, if that even was the case, was self-fulfilling. The servers ignored the person, and thus they got the no tip they were expecting.

I've filled out three surveys this week (the "usual" post-cruise, one about my phone call with my PVP last Friday, and one last night about VIFP). I sailed Conquest on 5/31 on a Premier Casino sailing.

I also used the "contact us" last night to tell them about my not-very-pleasant encounter at the service desk one day. Unfortunately, I didn't get the girl's name.

In the regular surveys, I always point out the good staff. This time it was the casino drink server (Ademar from Bosnia) who was on my Freedom cruise 6 months ago and not only recognized me but remembered what I liked to drink and took very good care of me all week, even though I wasn't paying for the drinks (I do always add a tip to the free drinks, though).

I don't complain hoping to get any sort of compensation. But then, I rarely complain because any issues I've had have been fairly minor.

I can tell you from personal experience that the crew generally DOES get credit for positive feedback that mentions them by name. We either do the survey after each cruise or, if we don't get selected for the survey, send an email to JH and always mention the crew members that gave us stellar service. We had a bar waitress in the cigar bar on Elation in 2010 who fit that mold. She was mentioned in our post-cruise email.

When we sailed 4 months later on Destiny and ended up at Cozumel the same day as Elation, she came to Fat Tuesday's and hung out with us on her day off and one of the things she told us was that once a crew member reaches a certain number of positive comments with zero negative comments (sorry, I don't remember the number), they are given an extra day off.

Because the tip in the Steakhouse usually comes from the $35 cover charge. Few actually tip extra.

That seems a bit low. We complained about our food on the victory and got 30% on top of whatever lowest fare we got the on our next cruise.
