Just booked Adventure

Recommended Posts

I have adventure booked for this August and can't wait! I was planning to book the adventure on the Aruba route for next October but read that it's going into dry dock after the first week or 2 of that month, so just a thought for your booking if hat might bother you to be on a ship during it's last weeks in the water where they'll have delayed fixing things and restocking items. If so, just book it for the following month, and if not, it probably won't bother you or be a problem especially because it's port intensive and the ports are gonna be awesome!!!

We were talking about our Adventure cruise from May. My wife always does a fun Snapfish book. That cruise was one of the best ever. I wouldn't mind doing the whole cruise over again.

You're going to have a blast. The Adventure is a great ship. The itinerary (both of them) are great and the crew is the best.

I'm so jealous.

We've been to St Maarten before, but not to the other islands, we did give up going to Bermuda and Boston on Anthem though but we saved about 1800, I notice there's only 1 specialty restaurant but one says its portofino and some other site says Giovonni

It's Giovanni's Table now.

Is it any good and how's the mystery dinner theatre?

We like Giovanni's, lots of choices. Mystery Dinner is fun to do once, but you don't get the full Giovanni's menu to choose from.

I was nervous about going because of the number of bad reviews. I shouldn't have worried. The Ice Show was great-fun and inventive. The Champagne Bar was great-get Phil to make you a whiskey sour. It's not like anything you've tasted. It is not your grandmother's whiskey sour!

We would have booked Giovanni's each night if we had known how wonderful it was.

This is the second time we have paid for the premium drinks package. It is so worth it! We were not drunk by any means on any day, but we got our money's worth and then some. We would have a mimosa or bloody mary with breakfast in the dining room or windjammer, beer with our windjammer lunch, 3-4 frozen drinks on the ship after coming back on, cocktails while we changed for dinner, champagne before dinner, wine by the glass during dinner, cordials after dinner and drinks in the casino or Viking Crown Lounge. So worth it!:)

I wrote more and posted it earlier today, but I did want to build your excitement a little!

Thanks for the info! You make it sound so tempting to buy a drink package :) However, I still don't think I'll be on the ship nearly enough, and while I could definitely swing a night or 3 of 5-7 drinks, there's no way I could keep that up all week. I guess if we find that we stick closer to the ship than planned and end up back on during lunch hours and such (which we currently don't plan to do), then maybe I'll give in towards the middle of our trip. I'm glad to hear you thought the ship was nicer than expected and that you had a good time. Which route did you do?

ColoradoGurl,

I hear you about not being able to keep up with 5-7 drinks a day for a whole week... Especially with only one sea day. It just doesn't seem practical, not mention that it's almost $400 for the drink package. $400 on ALCOHOL! That seems crazy to me.

We'll be on AOS in February, and this will be our 4th sailing on her. We absolutely love the southern Caribbean route!

I'm so glad I didn't buy any of the drink packages. We were off the ship for almost the entire day, from early morning until the last 10 minutes before "all aboard." I planned to drink more than I did, but we were having so much fun swimming in the ocean that the only drink we really wanted was water. I tried a piña colada once on the ship, and on 3 of our 5 islands, and that was it, so I had 4 drinks total the whole week and only one was onboard. I bought soda before getting on the ship and I mever drank even one; again, thirst for water took over. We were so exhausted by the time we got back on the ship that we couldn't have enjoyed drinking even if we wanted to. So, I think it depends what kind of vacation you want to have. If we were hanging on the ship or on a lounge chair all day, we probably would have had more to drink, but since we were so busy and active playing and swimming, alcohol just didn't fit in. A drink package wouldn't have even been worth it for one day.

So glad to hear all the positives about Adventure...We did the Aruba itinerary on Jewel last October. And decided to do our first B2B May 7 & May 14, 2016 on Adventure for our 40th anniversary.

We transferred our reservation from Anthem to AOS in Oct ,2016 to ABC, Antigua and St Maarten. We booked the promenade stateroom to save money.

I hope you post a review and pics. I'll be on the same ship and itinerary the following spring.

A discount for sailing before a dry dock?

Adventure has had some great pricing lately. I don't normally book 2 years ahead, but we wanted to go back to the southern route and these islands. The price for a JS was less than we paid for a D1 on Jewel in 14.

It is not just alcohol at all, I get the ultimate package and use quite a bit of it on specialty coffees, oj, and water. I definitely get my moneys worth, even on a port intensive cruise.

Agree...I booked in early April for our May 2016 and the price of our JS has yet to be less ...couldn't be happier :D

I think it really depends on how much time you plan to spend on the ship, how active you are during the day (and as a result how tired you are when you get back/how early you go to bed), and how particular you are about drinking the free oj and free coffee vs an upgraded more expensive version. I'm not a daily coffee drinker, so even though I thought the free coffee was a bit too strong and bitter, I was fine with drinking it, and most days didn't drink coffee at all, and I really can't understand why people dislike the free oj. It's not fresh squeezed but it tastes just like the oj from a carton at the store and I thought it was perfectly fine. I certainly didn't feel the need to buy an upgraded oj. All that being said, keep in mind im usually strictly a water drinker at home anyway, and since we were so dehydrated from being out in the sun all day, that's pretty much all we wanted to drink once we were back in the ship.

We also brought our own bottled water onto the ship and were able to bring that to the beach with us every day (it cost $10 for 2 15 packs of water). If you tend to be a more active person who will be swimming in the water at the beach most days, or walking around the town exploring and shopping, and not getting back on the ship until you have to, I just can't see how you'd have the energy to drink much at all. But if you are pretty leisurely, sleep in, and/or go back to the ship early and have time to nap every day, you'll probably feel rested enough to get you're moneys worth. Also, if you are particular about your coffee or orange juice, and will drink a lot of it, you may want the package. Keep in mind you can also pay out of pocket for one coffee and one oj a day and only spend around $50 total, so unless you're drinking your daily calories worth of liquids in the form of oj and coffee, you still don't need a package even if you DO want the stuff that costs money. That's just my take on it, having just gotten off my cruise. I had fully intended to play all day and enjoy adult beverages at night, but that didn't happen even one night because we were so tired and went to bed fairly early.
