Sharing a suite question...

We currently have an SJ suite booked with our whole family (us and 3 kids)....we booked during the original deal where you got UBP, UDP, prepaid gratuities for two, and $200 OBC. At this point, I think our next cruise will be sans kids, and so we will probably drop the three kids from the reservation IF we end up keeping it. It is for January 2017, clearly a lot can change by then!

Anyway, we have thrown around the idea of possibly inviting one of my sisters and their spouses or a couple we are close with to come with and share the room...we are not picky about space and I'm not entirely sure we could justify the cost of the suite for just the two of us even with the fantastic perks. We would like, however, to keep the UBP and prepaid grats to ourselves (being upfront to the other couple). The UDP when we booked it was for everyone in the cabin so they would benefit from that, and obviously benefit from the suite perks. The OBC we would probably either split or offer them in place of the prepaid grats we were getting.

Anyway, obviously we wouldn't charge half as we would be getting more benefits and they would be in the Murphy bed I'm assuming, but what percentage would you think would be fair? Say, if the fair including everything was $3,000, what would you charge? Just curious, it is very, very hypothetical at this point :)

I would charge $1200 to them, $1800 to you or $1000 to them and $2000 to you. You get the bed, they get the couch. You get the UBP and UDP and they only get the UDP. $1000 is a killer deal for them, but not to have a real bed or the UBP could be a deal breaker for some. For me, I wouldn't consider this at all as I like my privacy and would not want to share a bathroom or sleeping quarters with another couple. But it sounds like this is not an issue for you. I believe that the SJ actually has 2 bathrooms and possibly even 2 bedrooms (or the second "bedroom" is separated by a curtain ... but still has some privacy). I think it would be an awesome offer if you asked them to pay $1200. Depending on your sailing, that's probably around the cost for an inside without the suite perks!

SJ depends on the ship. On the Star, it is a one bed one bath deal. Great amount of space for two with sitting area but, only one bath. We loved it with just the two of us but it would be a stretch to share with another couple.

That belief is incorrect.

SJ suites only exist on Dawn class ships and are all the same.

This is correct, in SJ suites there is only one bath and all beds are in the same space that can be divided with curtains and one flimsy wooden divider. Edited by Demonyte

Split the cost 50/50 but move 1 person of the couple to passenger #2 so 1 person of each couple has the UBP. You can always add the UBP later to passenger 3 & 4 if you choose to. You can offset the cost with your OBC. I did that with my cousin and his daughter for next year. I always take the master bedroom and you should keep it for yourself also, after all it is your cabin.
(I can justify it as I am the one who gets the comps from CAS and my cousin could care less as long as he is cruising).

Funny thing though we have the 12 nighter booked for January (still waiting to see if it becomes 14 nighter). The UBP was $765 each so I wound up booking us in side by side B1-M1 cabins as it worked out better then paying for the UBP for the 2 extra people and we won't be crowded in together for 2 weeks.

The Murphy bed is not huge.

This is ours with a 4 year old in occupation

And empty ready for the night

And the main bed that does not separate.

At night when all the beds are deployed, and the sofa bed no pic as my DD7 slept on it as a couch

like so

anyway the space in the room is quite cluttered as the tables, chairs and coffee table all have to be arranged to deploy the beds.

It was fine with two small children but I would not have asked extra adults to join us. Only you can decide that for yourself.

I would price check to see if a 2 bedroom 2 bath SA category cabin is available. This all depends on which ship and itinerary as popular cruise cabins can vary by $ to $$$$$ I don't believe you lose the perks you booked with if you do an upgrade according to my PCC, (take that with a grain of salt). If the price difference was manageable for a 2 bedroom cabin then I would do this. This would be better for couples and the kids if you don't change plans. Just remember to check the rates via mock booking to get an idea of the price difference. Remember to remove the cookies or use a different browser, or you won't see any price changes when you are monitoring for rate drops.

I hope you are able to go.
