Luggage Express - $20 per PERSON or per BAG?

There will be four of us (2 adults, 2 children), but we will only be bringing two pieces of checked luggage. So for the luggage express program, would we pay $20 per bag ($40 total) or $20 per person?

If they also issue boarding passes, then it may have to be per person? Or could I just sign up two people on the luggage express program?

Thanks for any responses!

20 pp

Early in the cruise, eligible guests will receive an invitation to participate in this program. The guest must complete the registration form and sign it to authorize the fees to be charged to their Sail & Sign account and then drop it off at the Guest Services Desk. The day prior to debarkation, airline boarding passes, luggage tags along with a letter are delivered to the stateroom. Guests place the tags on the luggage that will be checked in and then place it outside their stateroom for collection. On debarkation day, participants may debark at their convenience.

it is per bag, plus whatever fee your airline charges for bags.

last time for me, i had to ask about the luggage express. never got any info on it.

but it sure was nice to walk off the ship onto the bus with only my carryons.

Rather than check in at the airport for the return flight, eligible guests may choose to participate for just a nominal fee of $20 per person in addition to baggage fees that may be required by the specific airline for checked luggage. Guests will receive both their airline boarding passes and their luggage tags while they are enjoying their vacation at sea. Better yet, they will only need to place their checked luggage outside of their stateroom and will not touch it again until they claim it at their final destination.

Applicable to all guests with proper travel documentation

Only a maximum of two bags per guest can be checked-in

Applicable on the following airlines - guests will need to check on board for participating airlines as they are subject to change.

Delta

American Airlines

US Airways

United

Jet Blue (Fort Lauderdale International Airport only)

Southwest (Fort Lauderdale International Airport only)

Flights must be on a participating airline, departing from the airport on the same day of debarkation

All flight destinations may be available including Canadian and International airports.

*Note:*For ships from the homeport of*Seattle, flight destinations are to the U.S. only*

The*Luggage*Express*Program*cannot*be used for those guests purchasing a post-cruise shore excursion.

I use luggage express every cruise that offers it.....

It's $ 20 per person + your airline baggage fees

On some of the ships you can not leave when you want... You have to meet at a designated area and are escorted off the ship, other times you just leave after your luggage has cleared customs.

Also you may just want to sign up 1 person, and just check in the other 3 for boarding passes on you own

1 person is $ 20. + 2 checked bags $ 60= $ 80

2 people's is $ 40 + 1 checked bag each $50= $90

Saves you $10

It's $20 per person, not per bag. Each person can check up to 2 bags for the $20 (plus whatever the airline charges for the bags). So theoretically, with 4 people, you could sign only one person up for Luggage Express. That person would get his/her boarding pass and tags for the two bags. The other 3 people would have to either check in on-line or at the airport kiosks to get their boarding passes. Since they wouldn't have bags to check either, all of you could go straight to the security line.

This is not correct. It is per person and you have to pay for every person including kids. Because they print your board pass for everyone.

We did it from Seattle and were traveling back to FL and we were pleased and felt it was worth it. We had 7 kids (5 small) and a person in a wheelchair in our party of 14 so we gave it a try. It was so nice not to have to mess with the luggage and to just walk off without waiting for our zone to be called. That almost felt worth the money, to leave when you are ready and not have to take your own luggage off. When you consider that you do not have to tip the baggage handlers at the port and the airport that lessens the cost.

We usually drive to the port so normally would not have a need for it. But I was glad it was available. Obviously many people use it because there were 2 semis outside the ship being loaded with luggage. They leave it in those containers that they take it on and off the ship in and load those right into the truck for sorting at the airport apparently.

It is $20 PER PERSON for the service, in addition to the price you would have to pay per bag to the airline. In our case our luggage was free with the airline so we just had to pay $20 per person and they give you a luggage tag to get you through to your home airport and your boarding passes all the way through. When we got to the airport we went straight to security, it was so nice not to deal with luggage!

We've used Luggage Express multiple times, most recently just yesterday on the Breeze.

Each ship handles it differently, which is confusing. On the Liberty and the Glory, we had to meet in a designated area and wait for everyone who had purchased Luggage Express before being led off as a group. On the Glory, we were served continental breakfast while we waited.

On the Breeze, we were given zone 7 luggage tags and asked to wait in the theater with people who were signed up for Carnival shore excursions. Debarkation was a real mess, but Luggage Express was actually called right after zones 1 and 2, so I guess the luggage cleared customs faster than they expected. We would have been eligible for priority debarkation/zone 1, but considering that we would have had to look for our luggage and then schlep them to a taxi and then have to check them in at the airport, I think time-wise we were still ahead with Luggage Express (plus way more convenient).

Now, about boarding passes and the registration process...

The process on the Breeze was so disorganized. First, we never received the registration forms in our cabin. I know what they look like, and I was looking for them every day in the Fun Times, beside the Fun Times, in the mail box, etc. They never showed up, so in the middle of the week I went to Guest Services to ask where the forms were. They didn't know when they had supposedly been distributed, but thought ours was just an oversight so gave me 2 forms (each person has to submit a form). Okay, no big deal, although we could have missed the deadline, which was the next day by noon. But wait, there's more...

The next morning around 10 a.m., I returned the completed forms to Guest Services. They told me that nobody else had signed up and that there was a minimum of 20 required before the service would be offered. Hmmm...nobody signed up? On a ship the size of the Breeze? Since we didn't get our forms in the cabin, I wondered whether anybody got forms in their cabin...stranger things have happened. Or maybe a few decks got left out. Whatever, now we were bummed that we might not be offered Luggage Express after all. I asked how we would know whether we got Luggage Express or not, and they said they would call one way or the other (which they never did). I asked if they could make an announcement, but they refused, saying the procedures were in place and either people signed up or they didn't. I then ran into the cruise director and mentioned it to him, but he was busy running around (the ship had just gotten cleared for debarkation in Cozumel, and people were scampering around to go ashore, so he was coordinating that).

I then got to thinking about how lots of people seem not to even know that Luggage Express exists or what it's all about. I went up to several groups of people on lido and just casually asked if they had gotten forms, and nobody even knew what I was talking about. I suspect people pay very little attention to the forms if they're not already looking for them. They probably just toss them along with the ads for the watch and jewelry sales or another spa ad.

The next day, after having not received a call from guest services, I was about to call them, when I checked our folio accounts and found two charges for $20 apiece for Luggage Express, so it went through. Now all we had to do was wait for our envelope with the luggage tags and boarding passes.

On the last evening, we had no luggage tags and no boarding passes (and also no regular zone 1 tags which we should have gotten if we weren't using Luggage Express--and sometimes we have gotten both sets and told to ignore anything that doesn't come in the Luggage Express envelope). I asked our cabin steward, and he said he didn't have anything for us yet. We had some other things to do (I was going to the Platinum and Diamond VIFP party), so I was planning to check on them after that. When I got back, the envelope was in the cabin, but it was time for dinner, so, assuming everything was a go, we went to dinner and then came back to put the tags on the bags and get them out in the hall to be picked up. We took care of that, and then, on a hunch, I decided to double-check the boarding passes. Everything looked fine--2 boarding passes apiece (we had a connection flight). Upon closer inspection, however, all 4 boarding passes had my name and seat assignment, and my husband had no boarding passes at all. Another call to Guest Services. They apologized and said they would re-print and send them right up. We waited. We waited some more. It was the last night, and we wanted to be out and about and enjoying our few remaining hours of the cruise, so we decided to head out and tell our cabin steward about the problem so he could accept them for us (they had mentioned this as an option). Hubby went back up to make sure everything was a go, and he messaged me on Facebook to say they were reprinted, but reprinted the same as before (4 for me and none for him). Okay, now I go stand in line, and you know what Guest Services line looks like on the last night. We were beyond frustrated at this point, but how hard can it be? How many times have people printed boarding passes? Should be easy, peasy, right? The guest services rep seemed annoyed at us. Really? He kept trying to blame US Air. He kept us waiting and waiting. The people behind us were obviously annoyed, and I don't really blame them. Finally, he comes out with the reprinted boarding passes (now for the 3rd time). We knew by now to double- and triple-check to make sure they were correct, and this time they had printed 2 for my husband and 2 for me, but both of mine were for the connecting flight, and I still had none for the flight out of Miami. Unbelievable. They had trashed the other sets already. The rep cops an attitude, and so did we. We are being charged $40, and they can't even print boarding passes, or, rather, they can't print boarding passes correctly. I started to say forget it, we'll just print them at the airport, but by this time it was a matter of principle. On the 4th try, they finally got it right. I don't know whether they dug through the trash or what, but we had our correct boarding passes. Our luggage was gone by this time, and now we were wondering if they had checked both bags under my name (we each get one bag free with US Air), but I haven't seen any baggage fees from US Air, so I guess that part was done correctly.

Luckily, our bags showed up at our home airport with no problems, and I would still recommend the service. This is just a warning to double-check your paperwork to make sure it is correct, and to go to Guest Services if you don't receive a form in your cabin because there is a registration deadline.

  • 6 months later...

We have used luggage express two or three times with no problem. It is worth every penny! We did have to go to guest services to ask for the forms on one occasion and got them easily. Once you have used this service you know to look for the forms and that there is a deadline for submitting them so if they do not show up in your cabin just ask for them.

Airlines won't "store" your bags, so with you not leaving until the next day, no you won't be using this service. Check yourself in with your flight and drop off your own bags- with the hotel shuttle.

Your flight must be the day you debark. Staying the extra day disqualifies you from using the service.
