Nana57 Posted July 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2015 If a ship doesn't appear to be filled, does the cruise line reduce prices 3 wks out of the cruise date? Or does the ship sail with empty rooms.
Rare cruisestitch Posted July 20, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2015 Sometimes there are bargains, sometimes they give reduced rates to employees' families, sometimes they offer deals to travel agents. If none of the above fills the ship, it will sail with some empty rooms
kenevenpar Posted July 20, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2015 Celebrity has recently stated that they will no longer offer last minute large discounts. I think that it will be a wait and see what happens. You can follow the exciting deals, which are fairly close cruises, to see if anything suits your needs. AtleeH Posted July 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2015 "Celebrity has recently stated that they will no longer offer last minute large discounts"....................(unless they do) (just adding what X said under their breath. :D As you noted, it'll be wait and see if they stick to that policy. rolfecms Posted July 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2015 The rates will be reduced to the point that the incremental revenue of selling the cabin is greater than the incremental costs of sailing with the cabin empty. Where the break even point occurs is proprietary information, but you can be assured that the Celebrity accountants are on top of that number. I would suggest that Celebrity's marketing department pronouncements be taken with a grain of salt. Those are meant for public (and travel agent) consumption and do not necessarily reflect the views of those who control the company's finances. And those comments intended for the Stock Analysts may or may not have any basis on the marketing reality.
