Magicat Posted July 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Hi A cousin out in Neil's Harbour had mentioned to us that the cruise ships are now docking on the west side of the harbour in Sydney. Can anyone confirm this as the Port of Sydney website does not really give any information about that. Thanks
tring Posted July 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) We docked in Sydney on the 31st May this year on a small, british based cruise ship (less than 30,000 ton). I do not have a map to hand but walking a very short distance uphill we came to a road running parallel to the coast and the Jost House was just by there. To get into the centre of town we needed to walk to the right for about 15 minutes. There was a proper cruise terminal at the port with a big model of a fiddle, which I think is mentioned on the cruise critic port guide for Sydney. Don't know if that helps you. Alberta Quilter Posted July 27, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2015 We also docked at the cruise terminal in Sydney, in May, on the Maasdam. Maybe the ships docking on the west side were one-offs? Just a guess on my part.
Fouremco Posted July 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I'd suggest that your cousin is mistaken. There's no facility on the west side, and the only dock possibly large enough on that side would be totally unsuitable.
tring Posted July 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Just looked at Google Earth and I am wondering if your cousin is thinking of North Sydney which is to the west and north of Sydney proper. It is a different town, but smaller and is not far from Sydney. Look at Google Earth and you will see what I mean. I have relatives in Newfoundland and that is where the ferry boats on the Newfoundland/mainland route dock.
Magicat Posted July 29, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Thank you everyone for the replies - we were hoping that She was wrong as the North Sydney dock was too far from town!
maryann ns Posted July 29, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Yes, North Sydney is for the ferries, but the Sydney cruise ship dock is right in town by the big fiddle. It is a great location.
Magicat Posted July 30, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) We'll go with the ship docking at the port of Sydney. Maybe it was a one off thing as someone has suggested, maybe she had too much Screech that morning with her coffee. :D Edited July 30, 2015 by Magicat
