euro cruiser Posted July 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Still in process. You can see for yourself on the live web cam: http://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/italia/lazio/roma/fontana-di-trevi.html
Rare cruisemom42 Posted July 27, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2015 The last I read, renovation work is not supposed to be completed until Fall 2015. (Original target date was May, so for Italy they are doing pretty well....:))
Rare Hlitner Posted July 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 27, 2015 You are talking about Italy. So take the original estimate of time, double it, and then add some more time. At that point you have probably reached the point at which they finally start the real work :). I can just hear our Italian friend saying "it will be done when it is done!" Rare Keith1010 Posted July 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Although it is under renovation (we were there in May) it is worth going to see. As to when it will be done, tomorrow but that is figuratively not literally. Keith
steorra Posted July 29, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 29, 2015 ..from the person teaching my Italian for Travelers class (she just got off a plane from Italy last week) that the Trevi will not be open until sometime in November. :/ She actually offered to take our coins for us for when she goes back as most of us in the class are traveling to Italy during September.. Heather There's still a small place where you can toss a coin if you visit while it's still under renovation.
H2OH! Posted July 30, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2015 I have been watching the renovation via webcam to see the progress. The scaffolding covered the front of the fountain when we were there in February 2015 so am hoping we can at least see the front façade when there this september. We were hoping it would be done but it does not appear to be the case. :(
W and W Posted July 30, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 30, 2015 We were in Rome last September, and there was nothing to be seen of the fountain at that time. The whole facade was covered in scaffolding and a green plastic mesh. Wife was devastated as it was what she had most wanted to see. There was a 5 ft square, 4 inches deep plastic bath to throw your coins into. Next year we're in Rome for 3 days before our cruise. Wife will probably visit the Trevi every day. Rare Turtles06 Posted July 30, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 30, 2015 It is definitely a shame for those visiting during the restoration who have never seen the Trevi Fountain before, but this work really needed to be done. Making lemonades: Even though you can't see the Trevi Fountain, you can still see Bernini's incredibly beautiful Fountain of the Four Rivers in the Piazza Navona. Visit it at night as well as during the day, and see which views you find more magnificent.
