Recommended Posts

Please help me with a good hotel in Melbourne, location is a priority, I am not familiar with this area at all as it is my first trip there. We will be staying 2 nights and would like to stay at a nice hotel and see as much as we can possibly see in two days.

Any help or suggestions at all would help me so much.

The most centrally located hotel is The Westin, an excellent hotel but fairly expensive. It's right in the heart of the main shopping area, close to Flinders St station and trams.

We have booked Novatel on Collins Street again for January 2016, 4 stars at reasonable prices, have stayed there last year and found it great and is very handy for shopping in CBD. Food is good and some excellent cuisine available around the area. We use http://www.booking.com all the time.:D

Note that there is apparently some road works going on nearby but is scheduled to end in October.

We booked a "mystery CBD hotel" deal through a large online hotel booking system which was at the Grand Hyatt. Very nice room, good location and nice views.

We have also stayed in the Holiday Inn on Flinders St. Very reasonable bed and breakfast deal. Very close to all transport - trams, buses and opposite Southern Cross Railway Station. Not as classy as Grand Hyatt but perfectly adequate and good value.

One thing for sure Melbourne has plenty of nice 4+ star hotels, just depends on your location of choice.

The Holiday inn is in a handy position.

I will check with DW The name of the one we stayed in recently it was in Little Bourke St opposite the old Supreme Court, handy position and because of location pretty quiet at night.

Hi,

Are you sailing into Melbourne?, if so and book a Hotel in Collins Street this will be very useful to you as the 109 Tram runs through Collins Street which runs directly to Station Pier where the cruise ships dock. It is an approximate 15 minute run from the centre of Melbourne, it turns left into Spencer Street (Southern Cross Station) then goes past Southbank, a great walk by the river and many great restaurants and Crown Casino which also has good accommodation (not sure about pricing) but you would have a great view of the city and river by night. The tram turns right just after Crown and then continues onto Station Pier running on the old train lines now converted to tram lines, in the olden days when I first arrived in Australia they went straight onto the Pier.

I hope you have a great stay in Melbourne, we are very close to beautiful beaches and the Dandenong Ranges. You can also catch the free tram that runs around the outskirts of Melbourne and Docklands.

Regards from Sunny Australia (I hope we put on really great weather for you):):)

When will you be in Melbourne? If you are here when the tennis or GrandPrix are being held it is wise to book early

I second the Holiday Inn on Flinders - good proximity to transport, reasonably priced for what you get. Just wanting the basics with the extra $$$ going to trip............IDEAL!
