Carnival needs to change their CHEERS package

Amen...I always shake my head with the high tolerance remarks. People have a high tolerance because they have built up that tolerance . I personally could care less what anybody's drinking habits are. It's their dime, and their business.

High tolerance may have nothing to do with it. Someone who's 5'3 and 110 pounds will be drunk long before someone who's 6'2 and 250. Doesn't mean that someone who can drink 15 a day is a drunk and those people that feel the need to imply they are alcoholics are just rude. People tend to drink more on vacation, doesn't mean they drink 15 drinks a day in their regular life.

 

I don't think I had even one drink on any of my cruises so it's no skin off my back what the limit is. However I hate the holier then thou posts.

Well, it is a good thing that non of the passengers will be driving under the influence while on the ship. They will simply be walking to their cabins.

The people who can't drink 15 a day are the people who are in bed by 9pm. But if you're at the pool, casino, and staying out late at the lounge until the late hours of the night/morning, 15 drinks a day is easy. I usually have to pay out of pocket for the last couple towards the end of the night

I would love to see a mini drink package. Pay for a set number of drinks at one set cost, and let those drinks spread out over the whole cruise. So, a package of 10 drinks could be bought for $50 or something, and those 10 drinks can be bought at any time during the cruise.

 

That's a fantastic idea. I could not drink 15 drinks in 1 day, but would like to have the option of 10 (or even 15) drinks in a week. Seems much more sensible that everyone in the cabin has to buy the drink package.

That bartender described in the post you responded to was risking his/her job. I think the person who made that post wants us to believe that he is such a smart guy that he can get bartenders to game the system. In reality, I think he was so drunk after the 15th drink that the bartender was really feeding him soda, and he did not even know it.

 

Not even close. People think 15 drinks is a lot, but it isnt, I get full on beer before I get too drunk. Perhaps your tolerance is low, and that's fine, but for a 200lb person, 15 can be done without being passed out.

 

Also remember some drinks have a low alcohol content. Chilla orchata is 12% alcohol, served as a shot, 15 of those is similar to less than 5 shots of vodka, or 2.5 of carnivals mixed drinks. 3 shots is the same as ONE beer. And it tastes amazing.

And just because they would be considered legally intoxicated doesn't mean they are fall down, can't walk drunk. My husband is a bigger guy and it takes a lot for him to be noticeably drunk. Me on the other hand, one drink and I'm happy as can be.

 

The fact is that if they aren't hurting anyone it doesn't matter how many drinks people want to have and it's really no one else's business. It's the bartenders job to cut people off if they feel it is necessary. It's not my job to judge how much a person should be able to drink while on vacation.

 

People on these board worry way to much about what strangers are doing with their vacation time.

I don't get the cheers package because I won't drink enough to make it pay off and I have no problem with those that get and drink the 15 and buy more as long as they are not steering the ship. What I don't get is all those that are boasting about how much they can drink as if that is a good thing. Drink all you want just don't pass out in front of my door or throw up on me and we have no problems. Party on.

I was just responding to the idea that Carnival shouldn't have a 15-drink limit on Cheers. I think that's plenty to have an enjoyable time. Yes, I admit I've never liked being around obnoxiously drunk people and saw intoxicated people make very bad decisions in college. A young man drowned in shallow water and another drank shots until he died. I have also seen the painful effects of alcoholism.

 

But if an adult wants to drink excessively on their own dime when they aren't driving home, that's their choice, and I will just avoid them. I just think 15 is a reasonable number for Cheers. It keeps the cost from soaring higher for people who are satisfied with fewer drinks, it doesn't encourage completely out-of-control drinking, and it prevents out-of-control sharing of drinks with people who don't have Cheers.

 

I'd love an inexpensive Cheers program that allowed one or two drinks per day, but I don't think that would be a money-earner for Carnival. :)

Ya'all do know Cheers includes unlimited sodas, nonalcoholic frozen drinks and juices right? DH would never drink 15 boozy drinks in one day. But he might drink 5 or 6 nonbooze frozen drinks. We keep changing our mind as to whether we should get it or not, I think were going to give it a whirl and see how it works for us.

A little late to the party here but the people passing judgement on those that enjoy having more than 15 drinks on a vacation day need to keep their opinion to themselves... Or at least, I certainly do not need to be around them.

 

 

I can have about 24 - 36 beers in a 14 hour day, get 8 hours of sleep plus a nap at some point and be ready for my baileys with coffee in the morning (on vacation).

 

Fortunately I travel with my gf who is only going I have 7-10 of her cheers allotment which gives me some breathing (err, drinking) room.

The 15 a day limit has nothing to do with passenger intoxication- they have the right to cut someone off at 1 drink if they are clearly intoxicated. The 15 a day limit is there because that is the profit point for what they charge- if someone were to drink more than that there would be no profit in it for the company.

Beverages for any retailer have one of the biggest profit margins, some as great as 200% or more and this includes soft drinks, alcohol, mixers, wine, and beer. I am sure Carnival is still making good money on cheers even when someone drinks 15 alcoholic drinks per day.

When did I say or even allude to the fact that "profit" is a bad thing? I am all for any business "making money"...the better their profit and profit margin the better my chances of purchasing a cruise within my budget since the cruise line seems to be making money outside of the base fare. If a cruiseline cut out the margins they make on the fru-fru, like cheers, soft drinks, FttF, or the money they make from "leased" operations like spa services, jewelry sales, candy etc. the price of a cruise would go up significantly. I'm all for a cruiseline making tons of money on the extras I have a "choice" to purchase or not....much better for my personal bottom line.

If you are consuming more than 15 alcoholic drinks per day you have problems....holiday or not. Its still tricky to get up to even with other drinks.

 

However the Guest Service manager on the Legend told us it was a way to try and limit sharing one package.

No. I can assure you I don't have problems. ;) it's easy if you're the type of person who enjoys a few beers with coffee after breakfast, one or two on the balcony, a couple with lunch...they add up.
