I give - I am in the dark about categories. I read the following on the RCL website:

Four basic categories

There are four basic stateroom categories on any Royal Caribbean cruise ship

•Inside staterooms

•Ocean View Staterooms

•Balcony Staterooms

•Suites

But, then I read posts on CC forums and see D1, Q, etc. How do the letters correlate to the type of stateroom category? Does it vary from ship to ship, line to line?

Showing my lack of cruising knowledge. LOL!!

Thanks in advance!

It's not just you. I've been on numerous cruises and I don't understand why they have D6, D7, and D8 for instance. They are all middle deck balcony cabins, same size, and same price...

Its based on location and pricing... The lower the number - ,eg. D1 -the higher the price..

The E's are similar to the D's, but have a love seat instead of a full size couch.

Hope that helps.

To add, D's and E's are all ocean facing balconies. B's and C's (I think) are the interior balconies which only exist on Oasis class.

When you get into oceanviews they are mainly F, G, H & I. Interiors are K, L, M, N. Then of course you get the guarantees which have completely different letters.

yes it does get confusing, and unfortunately all ships are not the same. The main categories stay, but the sub categories differ between ships.

Sometimes it seems like several categories are the same price, but it helps Royal Caribbean when they want to fill up a category. They can put one category on sale and unless you are in that exact category you can't get a discount. Makes it a little harder to get a price drop.
