Not impressed with Conquest

Just got home from an 8 da Conquest cruise. It had been a while since we were on a Carnival cruise and boy were we disappointed with the Conquest. Embarkation at F Lauderdale was a mess. They asked us to check in between 12:30 and 1:30 which we did and we had to stand in those crazy lines for an hr and a half. Very tiring since we are 85 and 75. We had 6 pm dining only because the anytime was booked up but the Carnival travel agent said it would be easy to change to Anytime. Well, that wasn't! It took them close to an hr to change the time and had us going to both dining room and in circles trying to talk to the maître di at both dining rooms.

My real complaint is the A/C issue. Our aft balcony was fine but the dining room was often so hot as was the casino. I am not kidding when I say that one night the waiter asked for my order and he was sweating so much that he dripped sweat on my charger plate! I wiped the sweat off with my napkin! People in the casino were so warm and I am not talking menopausal warm. Men were commenting about it too. Seriously they should do something to correct the A/C problem. On our other 2 Carnival cruises years ago the food was very good. Not so on this cruise. Guys hamburgers was great !! but the dining room steak and chateau b and prime rib looked gray and tasted totally blah. Have to say the desserts were fabulous as were the buffets.

We like smaller ships so thought this would be right for us. Back to NCL. Believe me I felt so sorry for the waiters/ waitresses in the dining room as they were all hot and sweaty. Some nights the temp was ok and other nights really bad.

We were on Conquest in July, was terribly hot everywhere onboard except for the library. Only cool place we could find. Also, I was not happy with the staff that handled the handicapped muster drill, some disabilities are not able to be seen. Staff kept repeating, if you are not disabled you need to leave. Thought that was rude!

Sorry you didn't have the best of vacations on the Conquest. We sail on her this Saturday and am always hopeful all will be well. There are enough good things to be said, though, that I'm not too worried that we will have a great time.

I'm usually freezing onboard every ship I've sailed, so it will probably feel good to me!

We'll be on the Conquest for the first time at the end of October. I also have always been freezing on every other cruise so it is hard to picture being too warm! I won't like that at all!

Sorry you didn't like the food. I know that is a very personal thing so I am hoping that it will be fine for our taste buds. Burgers are not exciting to me so Guys is not something I look forward to as a special treat.

I am hoping to ignore the instructions about when to arrive at the port since I have priority boarding.

I am sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise and I am hoping that we feel differently at the end of ours!!

I realize that I'm a newbie to cruising, but the title of your thread states that you weren't impressed with Conquest, yet you complained about embarkation. Wouldn't that be a complaint about customs, not Conquest (i.e. Carnival)? Isn't that like trying to blame Southwest for the long TSA lines?

A long embarkation can be a slow way to get your vacation started for sure. Things happen though that can cause all sort of different delays.

For others getting ready to board the Conquest - my wife actually bought a jacket in the gift shop because she was too cold both at dinner and in the show room. We didn't really spend a lot of time in the casino so not too sure about that. Even in our cooler dinning room, the waiters were hot - mainly because they were providing such great service to so many people and were always on the go.

Hopefully as you get a little further away from the long day at embarkation and the overall vacation you can find the good in spending 8 days on vacation and that will outweigh those issues.

I will have clothes for any temperature! Sleeveless and skirts for hot rooms and wraps & sweaters and long pants for cold rooms.

And I have always found something to eat on the ships....some things better than others - but if all else fails, BLT and chocolate chip cookies from room service will hit the spot!

8 days on any cruise ship beats the heck out of 8 days sitting at my desk at work!

You do not go through customs during embarkation only debarkation.

I have taken the Conquest and I have to say that it is the only Ship I have taken that I would not want to repeat. We still enjoyed ourselves because unless your ship breaks down, how could you not enjoy yourself on a cruise. I was locked out of my cabin three times because the keys kept malfunctioning. They had to eventually have people come and do maintenance on our door lock. The last time I was stranded in the hall, my room Stewart, who had not introduced himself and it was days after embankment stood by and watched as we struggled to get our third key to work. I stood at my cabin door while my sister in law decided to run down to guest services to let them know my new key was not working. I eventually walked down the hall to the cabin Stewart and asked if he knew who my cabin Stewart was. He said its me. Then he Introduced himself. I said well do you think you can let me in my cabin? He let me in. The air conditioning in my cabin didn't work the whole cruise. I made do. I will continue to be a Carnival fan because of all 19 cruises I've had with Carnival, that one incident was the only bad one. I can live with that.

Elruth I am so sorry you had to endure the heat. I know most folks at your age are a bit cold natured or at least the ones I know are, so it must have been really hot. I have never been on the Conquest so I am looking forward to cruising on her. We will be on the Conquest in Oct. I sure hope they get the AC fixed before then. I am hot natured. I will post a review of my experiences when I return from my cruise. I only have a 5 day booked.

My sister & I were on the Conquest in July. It wasn't my favorite ship, but I thought it was fine. My sister, on the other hand, did not like the ship - though she can't really articulate why. I think alot of it had to do with sailing in July - we don't normally sail during the summer and we did have some issue with really LOUD teens that were in cabins near us.

Things that didn't impress me: the Cruise Director and his staff (maybe I got spoiled by Matt), they just seemed really ho-hum. I don't normally even notice the CD as I've been on enough cruises that I don't participate much in the activities, but this group was just not great.

Temperature: my cabin was cool enough, but not really cold - I do use a fan at night, and though I'm normally really cold while sleeping, I never really got cold. I spent alot of time in the Casino and it was never hot - maybe they were having a specific problem during the OP's cruise.

We had the best cabin steward ever - she was great & like I said it was fine. I had a good, relaxing time and have nothing really negative to say about the Conquest.

FYI, the reason they were probably repeating that statement is because many people who are not handicapped or disabled go to that area anyway to avoid the cluster **** at the muster drill.

Of course 8 days on a cruise is better than 8 days at home for sure! The staff was very nice and yes, there were positives about the cruise. I know posters had mentioned A/C problems on the Conquest and I just wanted to report that they hadn't really be totally fixed as of yet.

We were just on the Conquest (8-23-15) and had a wonderful cruise with no AC problems on Upper Deck (deck2). We were treated terrifically and are going back on her in Jan.23,2016. John & Priscilla :) :)

Yay! Love seeing this, since I leave in a few short days to sail Conquest. All the negative and ho-hum comments were getting me down. Love the positive comments, thank you very much!!:)

I won't be sailing on her until July. I wonder is it a particular floor or type of room that has these a/c problems? I am booked on the 7th deck in a ocean balcony suite. I guess we could always sleep outside. Could you guys tell me which room numbers or floor that had that problem, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks:)

Was wondering the same thing! We are on the Lido deck coming up so it'd be a short walk to a cool ocean breeze!!

I will be on the Conquest in a 6K cabin in less than 3 months. With the floor to ceiling windows and the sun shining in, it would really suck if the A/C is not functioning properly. Hopefully CCL fixes whatever A/C problem is plaguing the Conquest before my sail date.

I was in a balcony cabin mid aft on the 7th deck. I like it cold in my cabin and it was warm, but not unbearable. My cabin did flood one day and it took two days of running strong industrial fans to dry the carpeting. The casino, where I spent a lot of time, was never hot. No one won there my entire cruise and the host told me no one had won the week before. A word to the wise!

The MDR food was ok and we enjoyed the Steakhouse and Guy's Burgers. The MDR breakfast was much better than the Lido buffet.

The Conquest was my first Carnival Cruise and I was not impressed. I am giving them one more chance on the Breeze in March. All the employees suggested I try that.
