Rude Travelers on Allure

Not at first, they said they would find some and bring it to our table...a few minutes later the WJ manager came to our table apologized said they would continue to look for some...I said "no problem...I usually see plenty of it so was just surprised" he asked for my SeaPass wrote my name down and said he would let me know if they found any....I thought that would be the end of it....so "SHOCKED" when that night someone knocked and had a plate full with a cover on it...I was a bit embarrassed and taken aback..as I absolutely made no big deal out of it....I'm a long time low key usually ask for nothing loyal RCI cruiser....I very much appreciated this above and beyond gesture.

Kind of same thing happened to us many years ago on the Mariner when it sailed out of Port Canaveral, my husband ask for oatmeal raisin cookies at the place in the promenede where they had pizza (cant remember the name), on the second night when he ask they again said they were sorry, we said no big deal plenty of other things to eat, we used our sea pass card at Ben and Jerrys to buy ice cream and the next day we had oatmeal raisin cookies in our cabin and everyday after for the remaining of the cruise, and they even had some for him in the casino, where he spent way too much time. We were shocked how they went over and above to serve us. It was a great gesture!!!

Currently on Allure, yesterday two "gentlemen" got

irate at the wipeout cafe because there was no salsa for their eggs. One of these buttheads actually slammed his plate of eggs down on the counter. They both treated the worker very badly, makes me embarrassed to be from the same country as these two. No wonder a good part of the world dislikes us.

Sure they were from the US?

Sounds this would make a good episode of WWYD. Did John Quiñones appear out of nowhere followed by his camera crew?

Bad Manners crosses all cultures. But from the OP message I just can't see how anyone would kick off over something so trivial. Having said that on our last RCI cruise I was embarrassed to be a Brit with the antics of a family on the next table in the MDR. Every night they made us cringe with our they spoke to staff. I suppose we tried to counter that by ensuring our requests to the dining room staff was heard in order to demonstrate there is an appropriate way of communicating with someone just doing a job. .....

Just a minute, I am from the UK, but have travelled to 40+ countries - ok only on holidays, but I would say that Americans are some of the most polite and welled mannered people I have ever meet.

Think I have also travelled to about 12 to 15 US states (mainly south and west) and what I like about the US is how old fashioned the country is. It is like stepping about 40 years back in time (for someone from western Europe). One of the old fashioned aspects of travelling in the states is that American people I have meet are so polite and friendly.

I did go to New York City once and yes that is the only place I have encountered rudeness in the US.

325 million people, are alot of people, but the 100's I have come across are very polite.

:confused:Breakfast in the Wipeout Cafe?

That apparently started in 2013. (maybe between my 2011 and 2013 cruise) If you look at the electronic signs, its frequently in the green as less crowded. That secret is probably spreading though.

Bad manners is seen in all cultures and countries . However I think most people on cruises as they are on vacation are having a good time and are very nice . And they'll always be exceptions to this . We were on the oasis of the seas earlier this month and had a great time but there was one lady who jumped 3 people in line at the guest relations desk so sadly yes you will see rude people .

i would have looked to lighten the situation by standing and shouting over them "i am not going to pay a lot for this muffler".

The key to making it work is to make no eye contact with anyone.

Best-

The world is full of rude people and those that exhibit no manners. It is definitely not limited to Americans by any stretch of the imagination.

However,

I only have to deal with that person for a few minutes, THEY have to deal with themselves for the rest of their life. I figure, it's ok for me to suffer through it for a couple minutes knowing they will most likely be miserable for the rest of their life.

We're on the Allure right now as well and I must say that thus far we've had good luck with our fellow passengers and crew. Everyone has been behaving wonderfully. Those two salsa jersey are more the exception than the rule, thank goodness!

OMG....No yellow mustard on my recent Mariner Asia cruise in the WJ....I asked about it and they said they would try to find some (I assumed they would just put some out).... that evening they delivered enough yellow mustard to my cabin (shocked) to last my entire cruise..said to keep it as they weren't going to put it out in the WJ didn't have enough and it wasn't popular on these itineraries...but they wanted to make sure I would always have it...so every time I went to the WJ my DH would keep some packets in his pants pocket for me.....Funny...but just shows you being kind and polite in your requests can produce some great responses.....We laughed as we thought on that cruise I was being referred to as the "Mustard Lady" :D

Thanks for sharing the positive experience.

So one the flip side where have you met the most polite passengers. For us clearly it was last yr. on a cruise out of Japan. Most passengers were Aussies and a large number were Japanese and I have to say how poilte they were. We spent three days in Toyko pre cruise and had all Japanese ports except one and we were treated very well. I would go to Japan again in a heartbeat.

Probably were diamond members [emoji15]

I don't know why Diamond members get a bad rap! Everyone, if they cruise enough, will eventually accrue enough points to reach higher loyalty levels.

If you are a jerk when you are a first time cruiser, you will probably be a jerk when you are gold, platinum and emerald too, long before you get to diamond.

It's not a magic line of demarcation when a person magically becomes a jerk. I have found that many of the folks in the upper loyalty levels have an incredible amount of knowledge to share about things to do to make a cruise even more enjoyable. I had a lengthy conversation with a passenger who was a Pinnacle level cruiser. He told me a lot of great things about his past cruises. He was a fascinating gentleman.

If I had looked at him and said "Wow, he's Pinnacle- he's going to be a jerk," I would have missed out on a fun conversation with him and his wife.

Don't treat them like they suddenly got the plague.

Whilst you are correct in what you are saying, sadly, I have seen more D+ members in on here than any other level (including Pinnacle) flexing their muscles. But you are right, it happens across the board.

My 2 cents!

My DH ( 6'4" , 245 lbs.) cringes when he sees me get THAT look in my eye, because he knows I'm going to act and he's going to have to back me up. It's the look that says that I have seen someone take advantage of a person that either doesn't deserve it, can't speak up for themselves out of fear, or someone who just bullies their way past meeker people/cruisers. NO ONE does that in my presence. I HATE BULLIES and I will always go face-to-face with them (when I know no weapons are present - I'm not stupid! ). Usually a veiled insult (I see you're in a great hurry to get ahead of waiting people-are you on fire?), (Did you forget your glasses today?-You couldn't see the end of the line?) ( I guess over all the noise in here, the waitress couldn't hear you say "Thank You" or "Sorry"-) Then I just turn away and shake my head! (So they can see me do it!)

Maybe not the best, or the smartest way. But if we don't try to make "little minds" a little better, we're all just doing nothing to help at all!

Wow. So it is up to you to decide who deserves to be bullied and who doesn't and if you don't like what happened it is up to you to bully that person? Way to go.:cool: That story is just as good as the one someone else always posts about how it is okay to step on the hand of someone sitting on the stairs because they are in the way. Funny, they have a large husband backing them too.
