FigmentFan Posted November 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2015 Is it possible to carry on only a few cans of soda instead of an unopened carton of 12 cans? I have ordered a 12 pack of water from Carnival so I doubt that we will drink an entire carton of soda. It would be nice to only have to carry on a few cans instead of an entire carton. Has anyone carried on cans that are not in a carton? Is this even allowed now?
luv2trvlnow Posted November 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 1, 2015 I always just take on a few cans (5 or 6). I have never had them in a carton and so far it has never been a problem, even when they took our each one and look at it.
waywyrd Posted November 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2015 We've cut a 12 pack in half and carried that on, no problems. You should be fine.
FigmentFan Posted November 1, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted November 1, 2015 OK Thanks! Great to know I don't have to carry on a whole carton of soda and then carry off the soda we don't drink!:)
mrpayroll Posted November 1, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 1, 2015 No problem doing it. Only a maximum number of cans , no minimum. :)

cntrydncr1 Posted November 1, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 1, 2015 Once I took a carton that only had 10 cans in it...they pulled me out of like and took it out and inspected EVERY can! lol
FigmentFan Posted November 1, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted November 1, 2015 Once I took a carton that only had 10 cans in it...they pulled me out of like and took it out and inspected EVERY can! lol This is what I am worried about. I think the new beverage policy for carry on drinks states "an unopened carton". I would hate to waste time having my 6 cans of soda inspected. I would hate to waste time having my 6 cans of soda inspected. Doesn't say that says A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, and milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought onboard on embarkation day and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less per person. misslucy01 Posted November 2, 2015 #13 Share Posted November 2, 2015 Only cans. Off the Fantasy two weeks ago and they are enforcing the plastic bottle. Saw a man with an empty plastic bottle for a spittoon and they made him throw it away
utwofan Posted November 29, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 29, 2015 Just off our Carnival cruise and we took 2 cases of sodas in an opened cartons. Didn't make any difference since security had to dump each can out and check it to make sure it was soda. Guess it is too easy to insert a few beers into a case and reseal the carton:)
WendyCn Posted October 19, 2016 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2016 These responses answered a question on a roll call page that someone said that only 12-pack cartons of soda were allowed. I was planning on taking 3 or 4 cans of iced tea, so it looks like that will be allowed.
poobears Posted October 19, 2016 #16 Share Posted October 19, 2016 It can be ice tea, it can be soda, it can be kool aid or even juice as long as it's in a can and under 12 oz. and less than 12 per person. I figure we will take on a size pack for the girls to make a few floats with.
maldenmusic Posted October 19, 2016 #17 Share Posted October 19, 2016 We carried like 6 cans of soda each in our bags last July on the Triumph and no one gave them a second look.

Wheatie59 Posted October 19, 2016 #19 Share Posted October 19, 2016 Carnival's wording is confusing, which just shows the challenging of writing a clear and succinct statement. "Cartons" in their statement of what's allowed refers to juice boxes, not the cardboard carton that holds a 12 pack. I'm sure someone will argue "no, they mean the 12 pack carton". But the first part of the statement says: A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (...) packaged in cans or cartons [\quote] That sets the meaning of "carton" in the later part of the policy. Its the container the beverage is packaged in. I.E., a "juice box".

It's really only confusing to those looking for the loophole to get on board what isn't allowed or those language scholars who cannot resist correcting grammar, punctuation and linguistics. For the rest of us, it's perfectly clear.
