Melbourne Cup cruises transport into city?

Recommended Posts

Heard on the radio this morning, on a Melbourne station, the passengers from cruise ships are having huge issues with taxis and trams into the city. They were saying people were walking into town on the tram line. There was also an issue with the sale of Myki cards?

I didn't hear all of the segment, as I was trying to work.

Surely they would have this sorted out after there has been several cruises down there for the Cup over the last few years. When we have pulled in there for a port day visit on other cruises they seemed to be pretty organised with myki cards, buses etc.

Trams are running. They did close down part of the tram routes because of the parade. But its all open and running after 1.30 pm.

Not really a huge issue. Its only bit of Bourke and Swanston Street.

Also there was a tram fault on 109 tram line. Nothing the cruiselines could have done about it. It happens.

Due to a tram fault at Port Junction, Route 96 & 109 trams towards East Brunswick & Box Hill are experiencing delays.

I had friends who on Cup Cruise (Carnival Spirit) and they had no problems getting a cab into town.

Perhaps it is more of a 'storm in a Melbourne cup'.:p

Groan :D

Must admit the weather looks interesting - all those high heels will be sinking into the slush.

We were on the way home on Saturday and lots of people in their racing finery were spotted at Southern Cross Station. Some very unusual hats I noticed

The issue with the trams and taxis has little to do with Melbourne Cup cruises, but cruises on their own. Have cruised into Melbourne twice and both times public transport was execrable.

Nothing like a bit of rain to sodden the fascinators. And where will the sweet young things rest after the champers if the lawns are sodden?

The issue with the track is that it has rained - will be interesting to see if any scratchings.
