goodycruising Posted November 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2015 Heard on the radio this morning, on a Melbourne station, the passengers from cruise ships are having huge issues with taxis and trams into the city. They were saying people were walking into town on the tram line. There was also an issue with the sale of Myki cards? I didn't hear all of the segment, as I was trying to work. Surely they would have this sorted out after there has been several cruises down there for the Cup over the last few years. When we have pulled in there for a port day visit on other cruises they seemed to be pretty organised with myki cards, buses etc.
icat2000 Posted November 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) Trams are running. They did close down part of the tram routes because of the parade. But its all open and running after 1.30 pm. Not really a huge issue. Its only bit of Bourke and Swanston Street. Also there was a tram fault on 109 tram line. Nothing the cruiselines could have done about it. It happens. Due to a tram fault at Port Junction, Route 96 & 109 trams towards East Brunswick & Box Hill are experiencing delays. I had friends who on Cup Cruise (Carnival Spirit) and they had no problems getting a cab into town. Edited November 2, 2015 by icat2000

tomatosauce Posted November 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2015 Given it is at the end of the tram line it can be a hassle to get anywhere via tram from the port or even returning to the ship from downtown Melbourne.
rabbitoh_777 Posted November 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2015 . Perhaps it is more of a 'storm in a Melbourne cup'.:p . Just wait five minutes and it will be sunny in Sunbury, flurries in Flemington or blowing a gale in Balaclava... :D  r .

Kiwi Kruzer Posted November 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2015 local time 2 pm Lets hope the rain clears for tomorrow. Any tips ? Perhaps we should be looking for a horse that runs well on a slippery track. I remember one year Flemington was flooded:eek:
Aussieflyer Posted November 2, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 2, 2015 Perhaps it is more of a 'storm in a Melbourne cup'.:p Groan :D Must admit the weather looks interesting - all those high heels will be sinking into the slush. We were on the way home on Saturday and lots of people in their racing finery were spotted at Southern Cross Station. Some very unusual hats I noticed

Hazydavo Posted November 2, 2015 #13 Share Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) Btw the weather tomorrow should be good... "22 and mostly sunny". I'm no racing buff but that would seem like perfect conditions for the race to me :) Edited November 2, 2015 by Hazydavo

Rare MicCanberra Posted November 2, 2015 #15 Share Posted November 2, 2015 Never trust weather forecasts for Melbourne. They have said the rain will come after the race, well duh, of course it would eventually no matter when it comes.
Pushka Posted November 2, 2015 #16 Share Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) The issue with the trams and taxis has little to do with Melbourne Cup cruises, but cruises on their own. Have cruised into Melbourne twice and both times public transport was execrable. Nothing like a bit of rain to sodden the fascinators. And where will the sweet young things rest after the champers if the lawns are sodden? The issue with the track is that it has rained - will be interesting to see if any scratchings.
