Tbucs19 Posted November 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Just off 7 day Escape and have to say ship doesn't handle all too well in even moderate weather. Found out ship is roughly 40 feet narrower than Getaway and having been on both what a huge difference that makes. Lots of rocking, ship felt like it was tilted for 20 min on Thurs night riding through rain storm on way to Nassau. Otherwise a beautiful ship and good time. Rare KeithJenner Posted November 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Not sure what you mean by it being 40 feet narrower than Getaway, but I will agree that it does seem to move more than the seas would suggest. Our theory was that it is badly affected by the wind.
LrgPizza Posted November 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Isn't Escape wider than Getaway/Breakaway?
Tbucs19 Posted November 28, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted November 28, 2015 I mean the beam length which is listed for each vessel in the fleet in the Norwegian book located in our stateroom. Beam is the width of a ship at its widest point.
Sotermarler Posted November 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2015 We felt the exact opposite. We LOVE the motion and felt like the Escape didn't move as much as the GA. We kept wishing for bigger swells. I guess it's all subjective. :)
Rare KeithJenner Posted November 28, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) It isn't 40ft narrower than the Getaway. I just looked at Wikipedia to see I I could solve this and I note that there they include a width which includes the lifeboats for the Getaway, but not for other ships. That adds about 40ft to the measurement. I suspect that something similar is happening with your figures. The Escape is wider than the Getaway. It's also taller though, which I think is a problem. LrgPizza Posted November 28, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2015 A quick Google shows the beam of Escape being 136 feet vs. 130 for Getaway. 40 feet narrower would mean Escape was nearly 1/3 narrower than Getaway. Anyone who has sailed her would know that's impossible.
Rare KeithJenner Posted November 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) A quick Google shows the beam of Escape being 136 feet vs. 130 for Getaway. 40 feet narrower would mean Escape was nearly 1/3 narrower than Getaway. Anyone who has sailed her would know that's impossible. I just checked the fridge magnets which quote the beam and got the same numbers. I'm almost certain that it's like lifeboats which are confusing the OP. Regardless of figures though, just a couple of minutes on each ship shows that the Escape isn't 40ft narrower than the Getaway. As a comparison, the Spirit is 24ft narrower than the Getaway. Edited November 28, 2015 by KeithJenner

LrgPizza Posted November 28, 2015 #16 Share Posted November 28, 2015 And thank you I have sailed on both. Then you can't honestly believe that the Escape is only 2/3 as wide as Getaway.
Rare KeithJenner Posted November 28, 2015 #17 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Then you can't honestly believe that the Escape is only 2/3 as wide as Getaway. I was going to try to explain again, but I think I'll drop out now. It appears sometimes it really isn't worth the effort.
Tbucs19 Posted November 28, 2015 Author #18 Share Posted November 28, 2015 2/3? Not sure what kind of math u are doing. 40 foot difference wouldn't mean only 2/3 as wide. Unreal.

It's apparent from my previous post I was rounding. What's unreal is that you believe Getaway is even wider than Escape than it is the Spirit, in essence making the smallest ship in the fleet wider than the largest. Hilarious! BlissfullinFL Posted November 28, 2015 #20 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Just got off Escape as well and we're sick Thurs eve. It was rocking and rolling badly in my opinion.

ColinIllinois Posted November 28, 2015 #24 Share Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) Keith is correct. Escape is six feet wider at the max beam measured at the waterline. NCL.com doesn't differentiate between waterline beam and lifeboat beam. Edited November 28, 2015 by ColinIllinois
LrgPizza Posted November 28, 2015 #25 Share Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) I don't need a tape measure to tell me that the Escape is wider than the Spirit. But go ahead and show your genius self off. Edited November 28, 2015 by LrgPizza
