Aft Soot and C749

My DH and I are sailing on Star Princess next year to Alaska (aft C749). We are splurging since it is our first cruise and vacation of a lifetime.

I have read so many threads about soot on the aft balconies. Some say it is a big problem, but others say no problem. I just found pictures of a deck with soot everywhere. We splurged on this suite and it sure isn't cheap!! This really makes me nervous.

Anyone sail on the Star lately? If so, was there a problem with soot?

Also, does anyone have pictures of C749? I would love to see them if you would kindly share. Thanks for your help. :)

Discussions about problems with soot on the balconies pertain to the aft balconies on the Regal Princess and Royal Princess, which have a stair step design down the back of the ship. The Star Princess is a classic grand class ship with a covered balcony, which does not have the same soot issues. I've stayed in a Caribe deck aft balcony cabin on the Caribbean Princess, and there was no problem with soot. There may be, however, a slight vibration in the aft cabins that is not found in the more mid-ship balconies.

We had C748 on the Grand Princess, in other words a mirror image suite on a sister ship. I can safely say you'll have no soot.

Only problem I can foresee is what you'll do for an encore. After having that huge balcony, a jetted tub, top-notch mattress, breakfast at Sabatini's, etc., you might have a hard time coming down to the off-the-rack cruise experience on your second cruise.

But I guess that's what you'd call a real first-world problem, isn't it?

Definitely right! The aft facing suites are fab on the Star and Grand.

Enjoy!
