Nothing about water slides, Sabor or Izumi anymore.

Since you are going after the refurb you should be fine. I would not suggest the Majesty to anyone prior to that. We were on the Majesty in both October and November and none of the problems have been fixed. Hot tubs still closed down, and one pool was shut down on the November cruise as well. The public restrooms especially near the pool area are gross. The stateroom was actually in decent shape. We love the Majesty but these last couple of times were not so good.

when last month were you on the ship? What was the reason for the pool being shut down at the same time?

We were on the 10/30 and 11/23 sailings. The first time we got the Legionnaires email after we sailed in October. The second time I think they said it was problems with the pumps or piping something like that. However, when they shut the pool down, they seemed to be able to fix that problem within 6 hours. Never could get a straight answer on the hot tubs.

ugh that sucks, well I guess it is more mechanical than health wise now. We are taking the kids on the 18th so hoping all is worked out.

I can pretty much make any situation fun so I am excited. My husband on the other hand, much harder to please! LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one going, no Roll Call yet.

I booked this cruise a few weeks ago. I thought since it was the second cruise after dry dock it would give them a few extra days to get the kinks worked out. And the price was great. JMG thanks for the info about the Enchantment post refurb cruise.

There is a roll call started here.

Living in South Florida we have learned that we REALLY like to cruise out of Port Canaveral. Got an email today for a deal too good to pass up, so we are on the boat 23 May for the cruise to the Bahamas. I'm looking forward to it, as long as the cabin is clean, and the bars are operational we'll be happy, and with a $200 cabin credit it was a no-brainer. Looking forward to a few days off, and a bit of snorkeling in the islands in May.

What is so different in Port Canaveral from Port Everglades or Port of Miami, that causes you to really like to cruise from there?

For us, it's the relative calm and lack of traffic compared to FLL/MIA. Plus having reasonably priced hotels walking distance to the beach, and at least a half-dozen rental car agencies with free shuttles to the port.

I can imagine that there are more reasonably priced hotels within walking distance to the beach near PC than in FLL or Miami and for those like you, that need to fly in that is a consideration. TractorTom is from Okeechobee, and probably an equal driving distance to either FLL or PC, with a little longer drive to Miami.

I personally have never had an issue with traffic heading towards either PE or Miami, and I live about 30 minutes north of Port Everglades, so a little less than an hour from Miami. It has always been a fairly simple, calm ride.

It would take a much much better embarkation experience or debarkation experience in PC for me to drive 3 or 3.5 hours. No upside for me. Much more choice also of ships in PE or Miami.

Hi, we will be on that sailing as well. The initial sailing is 05/16, then 05/20,....then...us on 05/23. Hopefully, any problems will be addressed by the time we board.

Great price for a 4 night cruise! We have 2 cabins on deck 9. Where are you located?

Excited about the refurbishment of the Majesty!

To (finally) answer the question posted. We like Port Canaveral for a couple of reasons. One, coming from Okeechobee, I don't have to drive though a big city to get to the port. Two, if we decide to stay a night before, there are inexpensive motels very close by with lots of parking. Three, they REALLY know how to move people into and off of a ship at Port Canaveral! The fact that you can have a local stevedore meet you as you enter the building at debarcation, find your luggage and hustle it through customs and border control for you and hand it to a shuttle driver is a big PLUS. Four, parking in the port is plentiful and easy to find, and OFF SITE parking is inexpensive and flawless. PLUS, we love to come up a day early and hang out at one of the bars along the waterway and watch the boats come and go. Two years ago we were there and watched a sub leave from the sub base. That's something you don't see all that often....

We like them all - but when fly home back to CA - we usually fly out of MIA as the flights are less expensive - just take the shuttle - so it really doesn't matter which port - BUT we do agree Port Canaveral is less crowded!

Merry Christmas to each of you- may your day be filled with family - friends - fun and all your heart's desires!

  • 4 weeks later...

We are on the May 16th sailing

We booked hastily as we wanted a reasonably priced 4 day for our kids as a Christmas gift. (ages 18-23) We found out about the refurb dates after booking.

I'm hoping for a good cruise and a good experience for our oldest two daughters, who will be cruisin for the first time.

Our only other RCI experience was less than magical. Hope we don't have to deal with too many issues with this one.

In case anyone hasn't seen the other thread about this, the addition of the waterslide, Sabor and Izumi have been cancelled as part of the current dry dock plans.

Yeah its what we all assumed after they took it off the website, its a shame, only hope would be that she is being sold already, or most likely to offset cost to refurbish Empress they had to do this.
