NOSaints1 Posted December 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2015 Have anyone of you done Carnival Journeys, what exactly is it besides longer intenarys and what did you think of it and was it worth it?
kingoftheicedragons Posted December 26, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2015 I've read about some of these, and would like to know more as well. I'm leaning towards taking the Panama/Costa Rica/Cartagena one in 2017...Cartagena is the only stop on that itinerary that we haven't been to and would in essence be the main reason why we would pick that one, plus the partial transit in the Canal versus last time, we just ported in Colon. But whatever else I can learn about people's impressions of these cruises would be great.
Cool Breeze Cruiser Posted December 26, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 26, 2015 We were on the Glory Journey October 31st cruise with 8 AMAZING ports! I meant to write a review because we did some AMAZING excursions & we had the Grand Scenic Ocean View cabin but I got to busy with Christmas when we got back. I think the best part of the Journey's cruises is that they are longer & offer more exotic ports. The Throwback Sea Day was a lot of fun. There was Roll the Dice Horse Racing, Ping Pong Bathing Suit Challenge, Aqua Frog Racing, Men's Knobby Knees Contest, 80's dance classes & trivia, the Formal Captain's Cocktail Party & the Grand Gala Midnight Buffet. The Dive-in movies were Back to the Future & Raider's of the Lost Ark. Not many people dressed in 80s outfits except for the staff but some of our group did & everybody loved it & wanted to know how we knew to bring 80s clothes. There was a photo booth set up with 80s wear but since we had ours we just had pics made at one of the back drops. Our horse lost! Bets were $2 each & you could bet as many times & on as many horses as you wanted. Ping pong ball challenge This lady was the winner! The area near the pool was packed during the Frog Racing so get there early. We didn't 'race' but my 'neighbor' did. Juli
Cool Breeze Cruiser Posted December 26, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 26, 2015 You could line up on one side of the Amber Palace at the Captain's Cocktail Party if you wanted pictures with the Captain & on the other side if you did not. Our Captain had to be one of the least photogenic people EVER & after looking through a lot of the pics in the Pixels Gallery our pic was actually one of the ones where he looked the best! SadieN Posted December 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 26, 2015 On the Hawaii cruises the 80's Night replaced the Hawaiian Night.
PurdueChefAmber Posted December 26, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 26, 2015 Wow! This thread will convince me to do a Journey's cruise! I couldn't do over a 10 day, though!
Cool Breeze Cruiser Posted December 26, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 26, 2015 Carnival had special items on the menu on some of the port days, usually one appetizer, one entree & one dessert. Lobster was served twice. A free galley tour was offered. They also had Academy of Fun Art, Social Media Food, Astronomy & Photography classes one of which featured Radu Ursa Carnival's amazing Photographer. They also had local entertainment playing on the pier from 8:30AM-12:30PM in Grenada & from 12:30AM-4:30PM in Antigua. We are going on the Glory Journey January 23rd cruise too. Can't wait! evandbob Posted December 26, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 26, 2015 I was on the Magic with the American table menu in October and November. There were menu items specific to the ports of call, and I'm guessing the Journeys menus will be quite similar?
Taters Posted December 26, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 26, 2015 I don't care what they call them or what activities are offered, I always prefer a longer cruise of at least 2 weeks.
Sparky2 Posted December 26, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) I don't care what they call them or what activities are offered, I always prefer a longer cruise of at least 2 weeks. Me, too. That's why we've been doing nothing but B2B for the last few years. We'll be doing the 2/26/17 14-day Pride Journey's cruise with partial transit of the Panama Canal. NOSaints1 Posted December 26, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted December 26, 2015 Does it matter what ship for these I mean for the longer days and is there more activities on sea days?

NOSaints1 Posted December 26, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted December 26, 2015 We were on the Valor out of San Juan and found the port days if we stayed on the ship for awhile there wasn't a lot to do.
BattyL Posted December 27, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 27, 2015 Wow! This thread will convince me to do a Journey's cruise! I couldn't do over a 10 day, though! We have a 9 day Journey's cruise booked 8/25/16 on the Sunshine. I'm also interested in others experiences with these cruises.
NOSaints1 Posted December 27, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted December 27, 2015 One I'm interested is the Hawaii one in 2017 or the Sunshine out of Charleston. Can you still add your airfare to your booking and pay it down as you pay your cruise?
RaiderFaninNM Posted December 27, 2015 #16 Share Posted December 27, 2015 Loved the idea of these, did a 8 day cruise but still was not long enough. Some of us still work, me included and can not take off 14 days in a row to go on a BTB cruise, just not going to happen for me or my wife. We are booked to go this Jan on a journey cruise, SO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT! :D THANKS for those who took the time to report out!!
ready2cruzagain Posted December 27, 2015 #17 Share Posted December 27, 2015 When are the elegant/formal nights on a Journeys cruise? Not sure which nights but I did read that there are 2 elegant nights and 1 formal night. Looking forward to it. The Journeys cruises is the reason I came back to sail with Carnival. The itineraries on the 21 days we are doing next month is awesome. Quite port intensive though.

CarolSW Posted December 27, 2015 #19 Share Posted December 27, 2015 JULI - Thank you for the pix and info on your Journeys cruise! They were great, especially your 80's group shots!! You look like a fun bunch!
Cool Breeze Cruiser Posted December 27, 2015 #20 Share Posted December 27, 2015 When are the elegant/formal nights on a Journeys cruise? Our cruise was a 14 day cruise so times would vary depending on the length of the cruise & when your sea days are. Our Elegant Days were held on the 1st & next to last sea days & the Formal Night with the Captain's Cocktail party & the Grand Gala Buffet was held on the Throwback Sea Day. The Captain & all of the Ship's officers were at the Captain's Cocktail Party. The chef got the biggest round of applause! Appetizers & free drinks were served at the Captain's Cocktail Party. There was dancing on stage at the end. (sorry for the blurry pic) We received one of the old Carnival Capers on the Throwback Sea Day instead of a Fun Times. Cool Breeze Cruiser Posted December 27, 2015 #22 Share Posted December 27, 2015 JULI - Thank you for the pix and info on your Journeys cruise! They were great, especially your 80's group shots!! You look like a fun bunch! It was fun! What a great group to cruise with! Six of us are cruising together again on the Glory Journey January 23rd cruise. I really meant to write a review from our cruise because there was so little info out there about Journey's cruises & it was a Halloween cruise (we were all pirates) plus we went to 8 wonderful ports & did some amazing excursions & we had my favorite cabin ever, a Grand Scenic Ocean View & we took tons of pics. We went around the ship taking pics in our 80s clothes. My husband did not have a strap for his 'guitar' so he 'improvised' with dental floss! NOSaints1 Posted December 27, 2015 Author #23 Share Posted December 27, 2015 I think the only reason why I wouldn't book Carnival is the exchange rate, the way the CDN dollar is at now.
nibbler 1 Posted December 29, 2015 #24 Share Posted December 29, 2015 we did the 10 day Sunshine journey cruise Dec9-19. I'm still working on my review. so give me time. the holidays have been crazy getting back just a few days before.. One of the things alot of people have asked is about the formal and elegant nights. Here is what I noticed. Elegant nights where alot of the same as our other cruises. But on the formal night, people went all out. Men in tuxes and women in long gowns. Also on ours there where alot of btb people that had done the 11 day journey before us. Another thing I noticed was there were very few kids on our ship. Could be the length of these cruises keep them low. Parents not wanting to take them out of school for that long. Also the crowd seemed to be more retired people. Hubby and I are 43 and pretty active and really enjoyed this cruise. It was probably the best we have been on. Another thing is the ports are so different. Alot of these stops few ships go to these places. Like Martinique and St.Croix on ours. So its a chance to see alot of new ports of call. We are like the other man that still works. But a 10-11 days was perfect for us. And just enough sea days that you don't get bored on the ship or antsy.
