Dear Carnival .... Pet Peeves

Just returned from the Dec 27th sailing on the Sunshine.

If you were to write to Carnival to ask them to improve a certain aspect of the cruise experience, what would you suggest.

Mine would start with the following:

- Ban smoking in the casinos

- better control over people that want to have long, loud conversations outside my room during nighttime or nap time (thanks to people in cabin 9169)

- ban large human beings from being able to spend over 6 hours in the serenity hot tub with non stop buckets of beer served (I think you know what I'm getting at).

- please please please STOP doing the Wobble song/dance

Anybody else have something?

Not just me then:D

Encourage people to deposit their half eaten meals elsewhere than leaving them on loungers, floor etc round the pools.

I go along with enforcing the policies. I have a pet peeve with all companies that have so called policies, but will bend or break them due to a whiny customer. My work dreads that you can be bad mouthed on social media. So Carnival along with many others give in because people post more negative things about businesses than they do positive ones.

My thing I would like to see is the taco bar open for more than just lunch - I think both it and the Guys Burgers should also be open late night for those wanting something different. Our upcoming cruise we have 6 port days in a row and with having excursions I will miss the tacos every day due to the hours they are open. Would love to see that expanded.

Pet peeves:

People who complain, incessantly, about their fellow cruisers.

People who want a cruise to proceed exactly the way they think it should 100% of the time.

People who think they do everything right and everyone else is doing it wrong.

People who think Carnival employees main job should be to act as little policeman and to catch all the "rule" breakers as those folks break the rules.

People who waste their vacations and their enjoyment by focusing on all their "complaints" instead of just making the best of situations.

People who know exactly what the amenities are before they cruise and then complain that their aren't enough amenities to satisfy them while on the cruise.

People who act like a cruise ship carrying 3000 plus other passengers is their private "yacht" and everyone should be catering to them 24/7.

And so on and so on.....

Not that I ever got to 15 drinks in the Cheers program, get rid of it anyways, some people just drink beer its not high in alcohol....get rid of the maximum of 15 drinks.

A standard american 12 oz beer has the same approximate ethanol content as a 4 oz glass of wine or a shot of liquor. A drink is a drink is a drink.

A 4 oz glass of wine!!??!! That's not a glass - that's a splash in the bottom of my glass.:p Does anyone drink just 4 oz of wine? Seriously though, even the standard restaurant pour (which always looks skimpy to me) is 5 oz. I've never heard of a 4 oz glass of wine. Hmmm, perhaps I drink too much wine.:o:p

A&JFamily- No a drink is not a drink, they all contain different amounts of alcohol....The alcohol content of beer usually is 5-7%, for spirits generally 40%, for wine 11-13%

ShakyBeef Hello- 4 oz wine hahahaha so true!! Wine usually is given starting at 5 oz. and with the very CHEAP wine they serve (have to admit the wine list at the bars offer horrible cheap wines that you can find in walmart for $3.99-$7.99 a BOTTLE) they really need to pour more..... can't enjoy the aroma as there is none for these cheap wines so I agree, who the heck would drink just 4 oz of wine??!! Maybe we just normal we just don't drink one glass of wine.

I sailed on the Sunshine on the week before you. Loved the ship, especially the lunch choices and fun areas for families. But, I've discovered that I prefer cruising with fewer gold/platinum/diamond and more appreciative newbies.

I would like to get rid of:

(1) Well-dressed people who proudly announce that their entire extended family is removing their tips...on Christmas Day...because they've already paid enough for the cruise. :(

(2) People who wake up early, throw towels and flip flops down on eight or more prime loungers in a row, and wait for their family to join them in two hours. Or, even worse, go back to sleep themselves for a couple more hours. Especially annoying when older couples using canes just want to sit down in the morning sun for ten minutes and wander aimlessly looking for a single empty lounger at 8 a.m. that doesn't require a hike up the stairs.

(3) People who save seats in the sun and seats in the shade on Serenity during the busiest times, and remove the 40-minute stickers placed by staff to TRY to enforce the rules.

No one is forcing anyone to buy cheers and limiting themselves to 15 drinks. Besides, you can bring a bottle of wine onboard (wonder how many people carry on the top grade imported wine that sells for $100 a bottle). Besides you can buy bottles from room service if you want more.

Everyone also can buy drinks in port ( oh yea, its not part of the cheers package...me bad) if they want more than the allotted 15 glasses.

In the big picture I don't want my "fare" to pay for someone's drunken stupor...who do people think "pay" for all the extra drinks when someone has cheers.

One ounce of beer contains less alcohol than one ounce of spirits, but the standard serving of beer is a 12-oz. can or bottle. Here’s how it adds up:

Beer contains between 4 and 7 percent alcohol by volume, with the average being 5 percent alcohol by volume. 12 oz. x 5 percent alcohol by volume = 0.6 oz. of alcohol/serving.

The same is true of wine. The standard serving of wine is 5 oz., which generally contains between 11 and 13 percent alcohol by volume. 5 oz. x 12 percent alcohol by volume = 0.6 oz. of alcohol/serving.

Liquor (distilled spirits) is most often consumed in mixed drinks with 1.5-oz. spirits. Sometimes spirits (vodka, gin, scotch, bourbon, etc.) are mixed with water, club soda, or juice or served “straight” or “on the rocks.” No matter how spirits are consumed, a standard serving (1.5 oz.) of 80 proof (40 percent alcohol by volume) of distilled spirits has the same amount of alcohol as standard servings of beer and wine. So 1.5 oz. x 40 percent alcohol by volume = 0.6 oz. of alcohol/serving.

This means that a typical or standard serving of beer, wine, or spirits each contain 0.6 fluid ounces of alcohol.

I typically tune out & not focus on such things concerning cruising or my fellow passengers. I guess if I had to pick something annoying to me that I may consider to be a pet peeve it would be for people to allow/wait 1 to 3 seconds for passengers to exit an elevator before they rush in. Other than that, after all of the precious money I paid for my vacation, the many months of precious time spent planning my vacation, I am tuning out everything I possibly can that would be considered to be a pet peeve...

Sweet Dutch Girl- I just can't bring myself to go onboard with wine neverless soda and water like I seen many do, I just would feel cheap and couldn't bring myself down to doing that....I can't understand how people pay for their cruise and carry case/cases of water and soda....perhaps I can understand a bottle of wine that is special to the passenger, but its just not me to lug wine onboard and my other half just would totally be embarrassed too lol.

Jagged thanks for that site, great site! I still don't agree with the limitations on the drink package, Carnival is the only one who does it, not that I drink 15 drinks in a day, but I just hate worrying what if I do and I am cut off early evening and still remain to have the entire night and I hate keeping track on how many I drink worrying about hitting the 15. LOL This does't stop me from choosing Carnival its just something that I have a pet peeve about and would love to see this rule change.

I also drink a lot of martini's and I am addicted to the Chipotle Martini, although on my last cruise last month, the bartenders had to attend a course onboard of new drinks that will be offered in the next coming months.

pet peeves:

People who complain, incessantly, about their fellow cruisers.

what's wrong with complaining about rude neighbors who keep you up all night? Or those that leave garbage around, don't pick up after themselves etc etc?

people who want a cruise to proceed exactly the way they think it should 100% of the time.

ok, maybe if the weather is involved, but if the ship breaks down because of lack of maintenance, than i'm gonna complain!

people who think they do everything right and everyone else is doing it wrong.

no comment!

people who think carnival employees main job should be to act as little policeman and to catch all the "rule" breakers as those folks break the rules.

it is their job to do so. If any employee sees misbehavior they need to address it. Just sometimes they see so much on a carnival ship, they give up.

people who waste their vacations and their enjoyment by focusing on all their "complaints" instead of just making the best of situations.

when you can't sleep, your dinner server gets everything wrong, and is as slow as molasses and the staff watches a fight break out and does nothing about it, than why would you make the best of it?

people who know exactly what the amenities are before they cruise and then complain that their aren't enough amenities to satisfy them while on the cruise.

really, i paid for it. If i run out of shampoo, i expect it be filled without my asking 3 times.

people who act like a cruise ship carrying 3000 plus other passengers is their private "yacht" and everyone should be catering to them 24/7.

that is what is paid for. Two groups, the workers who are paid to cater to the guest, and the guest who pay to be catered to.

and so on and so on.....

ummm

I carry on sodas because I don't drink coke products, which is all the ship sells. I take Mountain Dew with me, doesn't have anything to do with what I paid for my trip or being cheap - I don't drink coke period. So for a week vacation I want to be sure I have something to drink I will enjoy. I already have an entire week with no whole milk either. I still drink plenty of margaritas, martini's, but I drink my soda in the morning and I don't drink coffee.

Getting rid of the 15 drink limit on cheers would be great, NCL and RCCL drink packages are similarly priced (if not cheaper) and don't have a limit to them.

Also in the area of beverages I would love to see Carnival make the move to the freestyle soda machines like RCCL has, it really cuts down on the traffic at the bar. It's a benefit on both ends, I hate having to wait in line for a beer with 5 people ahead of all getting sodas and on the other side when I just want a soda it stinks having to wait in line for people getting frozen mix drinks. Freestyle soda machines would really help.

I don't think the alcohol % is what really matters here. You could be in the hot tub for 6 hours and down 8 glasses of water, point is where are you taking your ppppppp break?

Carnival tried to ban smoking on the Paradise. They found it cut into casino and alcohol revenues.

Please believe me - the percentages you are speaking of are "proofs." I work with toxicologists, who testify in court everyday on drunk driving cases about the body, alcohol consumption, and ethanol content of beverages. I can assure you, both a shot of liquor, a 4 oz glass of wine and a 12 oz standard beer have a very comparable amount of alcohol and will all raise your blood alcohol content on average .02. I also assist in training law enforcement and have seen NTHSA presentation referencing my assertions more times than I can count. A drink is a drink is a drink.

And for the record I am all for the larger pours on the wine, as well as the fantastic martinis from alchemy (all of which have more than just a shot of liquor) - I just want people to be educated and am tired of people saying I only had 2 beers. That 2 beers is the same as 2 shots folks.

My pet peeve are the lack of diet/sugar-free/low calorie drink options. A Free-Style machine would be a perfect solution. Fanta and Sprite offer a ton of diet sodas in great flavors. There is also flavored Dasani water and Minute Maid light which are low in calories.

I guess that means I don't have a standard drink. I pour 6 Oz. of Jack Daniels single barrel wiskey in a glass for my drink so using your formula: The single barrel is 94 proof or 47% alchol 6 Oz. X 47% = 2.82 Oz of alchol or 4.7 standard drinks. It's hard to believe 2 or 3 of my drinks equals 9 to 14 beers. Good thing I don't drink beer.

10Jan54 lol, but I don't want to know the answer lol

RHilla619- I agree totally, RC came out with a great idea there!

A&JFamily- In a way your right, a drink is a drink, but everybody....do the right thing don't drink and drive! When my daughter got her license, I had her go to one of those defensive driving classes only because I feel all kids do especially when they get their licenses at the age of 16/17, she came home after it ended and said "Mom, I will never drink and drive and I never get in a car that the driver was drinking" she said the movie they showed her scared the hell out of her....I felt as a parent, I did the right thing making her go, needless to say, she got a discount off her insurance too lol.

Adriennerm- OMGosh I so agree! Why can't they also offer skinny alcoholic drinks, I wished they did, its the newest thing out there to offer them.

BobNC- For me that word means CHEAP and nervy.

mom2tcdx2- I totally can understand you wanting what you usually drink and enjoy, thats a different story, most do it because they are too cheap to spend the money when in fact they spending it on a cruise so what is a few more dollars, at least thats how I see it. By the way, I don't drink soda, but occasionally I get an urge when in the store on a hot summer day for mountain dew, and boy is it good lol

Karter lol....I can't drink beer must be gluten free, but even if I did, two beers have me on the toilet for hours hahaha I don't know how some people just keep drinking one bottle after another lol
