njoyndride Posted January 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2016 Personally having experienced the long lines and slow embarkation in Long Beach I'm looking for some help from our Long Beach experts for our February Miracle embarkation. Here's the scenario - We are traveling with my elderly FIL (86 slight difficulty walking/standing) and am trying to avoid that he stands in long lines and is exposed to weather. We are flying in the same day from Northern California and should arrive at the port around 11, all things on schedule, otherwise I would just go to the port later to avoid too much standing for him. DH and I are Platinum and have priority boarding, he does not. We are in connecting but separate cabins and in hindsight I should have booked one of us in each cabin, we booked ES and also past final payment so no changes there. If at any other port we would just join him in the regular line however in Long Beach our S&S cards will be in the priority check-in building and a pain for staff to access if we check-in in the dome. To complicate things this is also a Premier Cruise. I would purchase FTTF if it would help/be available. Where do FTTF and the Premier Cruise folks check-in. Will it be in the dome or at the priority check-in building? Anyone have experience with escorting someone through FTTF having already checked in and receiving their S&S cards? I'm not trying to scam the system just trying to make embarkation as comfortable for him as possible. Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help. :)
riffatsea Posted January 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2016 I don't know what a "premiere cruise" means?? FTTF has a separate line outside and then the folks wait outside to be called in to go through security. It means standing and waiting or sitting outdoors on the wall. Perhaps a wheel chair would help?
LaCal Posted January 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2016 (edited) Premier casino invitees get priority boarding......just go and get in the priority area Edited January 17, 2016 by LaCal
Revdoll Posted January 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2016 You may want to think about getting a small portable stool for him to use. You can get them in either a soft or hard seat. I've even seen a walking cane that has a fold down stool on it. That way you can take it everywhere and it is available for him when ever he needs it. njoyndride Posted January 17, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 17, 2016 Premier casino invitees get priority boarding......just go and get in the priority area We are not part of the Premier group but do I understand correctly they will check-in in the small VIP building? I was wondering about that and if it would be crowded waiting there. SadieN Posted January 18, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2016 Ask for wheel chair assistance. It's the easiest. Assuming your father is platinum or traveling with you, they will escort/assist from the priority building.

FWIW, if he is not priority of any type, he will board just behind them. If you contact Special Needs, they will tell you how to find wheelchair assistance at the port, and what you can do regarding the lines. I have never sailed from Long Beach, so I can't help you there.
riffatsea Posted January 18, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2016 I agree that getting wheel chair assistance is the best idea! I will bet that they will allow him to be with you as you board the ship.
