As well, some cruise lines do not make their cabins available until 1 or 1:30 pm, meaning you have to carry everything around with you if you board before then. What ship are you on?

we are traveling on march 19 from port liberty n.j. would like to know if we can board with our luggage or must it be checked in thanks

it must fit in the same scanner airports use for carry on luggage.

furthermore depending on cruise line the cabins will not be ready until 1 pm and that means schlepping it until then in public areas.

if it is Spring break it will NOT be allowed. (late February to early April time frame) otherwise, most of the time they let it slide

We are not ever the first ones on board, so by the time we get on, it's usually already around noon, so waiting until 1:30 for the cabins to open isn't a big deal. I love how Princess has the cabins ready to go already, but the early birds can't get on as soon as on RCI.

You may try to bring the soda if you wish but during that time just expect it may not make it. Most have taped a luggage tag with room number on it and tip the porter well at the dock. Cross your fingers.
