Is it better to stay at a hotel by the airport or downtown Miami, is there anything to do by the airport within walking distance like there is downtown. I am looking at the Hilton Airport or the Downtown Hilton. Thank you Bob

The ONLY things in walking distance were 2 fast food restaurants. It was a $30. cab ride to the nearest nice mall.

Last year we stayed at a Courtyard by Marriott downtown. We are staying there again this year. Walking distance to Bayside shops & restaurants.

Last year we stayed at the Intercontinental, and had a wonderful stay. Eight minute walk to Bayside, great view from our room of the port, very friendly staff. The taxi from the hotel to the ship was about $12.00.

Nothing out by the airport.

Can't beat the Intercontinental. We love it there. Bayside and shopping so close and cheap cab to port. Cost's more than by the airport but savings with transportation to port

On our B2B on the MSC Divina we will be staying at the Downtown Hilton. There are a couple of fast food restaurants, a Publix Supermarket as well as several cultural buildings nearby. The views of the Port are awesome and they have valet parking. I have also stayed at the Hampton Brickell for a cruise which is also downtown. I found both to be excellent choices and quick to the Port.

Downtown is much better as the area right around the airport is somewhat sketchy and there isn't much around there. We have previously stayed at the Best Western Premier Airport which is a few minutes from the airport and there was some shopping and restaurants and was a pretty decent area.

We also stayed at the new Hyatt Place Miami Airport East in December and it was a nice hotel and we had a great deal from Priceline. Nothing to do in the area though. We had a rental car though so it was a quick drop off at the airport and we had a free shuttle to the Port of Miami via Alamo.

If you have free time to spare and want to stay at airport hotel to save cost, catch the free hotel shuttle to MIA and take the public transport DT or S Beach and then back. Did that. Easy and affordable. DT Miami also has its own free shuttle bus to get you around.

Has anyone stayed at the Downtown Hilton, were are Hilton members is it close to Bayside? They are totally remodeling the hotel which will be done by the end of the year.

A poster above will be staying at Hilton. So may be he/she can chime in. By brand name & reputation alone, it is save to assume Hilton is 4 star quality. As to location, so long as the hotel is within walking distance from a free trolley stop, you are good to go. Here's the free DT trolley website

We stayed at the EPIC Miami Hotel which is in the same area as the Intercontinental, just a few minutes walk to the Bayside. Very close to the port. Lovely rooms and nice views over Miami and the hotel have a great poolterrace.

+1 for The Epic Hotel. We were going to stay at the Intercontinental, but they do not offer any balcony rooms.

Any thoughts about the Embassy Suites Miami Airport......????

I've been to the ES by the airport; it's pretty consistent with just about any other ES. Good size rooms, manager's cocktail party, and a very good cooked to order breakfast. As a hotel, it's just fine; it's the fact that there's not much to do around it that's the bummer. I think the Intercontinental, Hilton, Marriott, etc. downtown are much better choices.

Agree with Downtown area is better for nearby amenities. Also would check hotels in Coral Gables. That is a very nice area with some reasonable hotels and lots of things to do walking distance from hotels. Above all, better than average safe area. Taxi rides about same cost as Downtown area.

Has anyone stayed at the Grand Beach Hotel Surf Side?

It looks very nice on their website. Is there plenty of shops and cafes in that area? Is it a safe area for families?

Thanks

Never stayed there, we live in Miami.

But we can tell you Surfside is a very nice area with lots of nearby amenities for travelers, and is very safe. Our son has lived in SS for six years now and loves it.
