Hi everyone,

We have booked a Med cruise (with kids) for March 5-12 2017. For some reason - I never considered weather (d'oh) - but looking at accuweather - it looks like it is pretty cool in most ports during this time (Marseilles, Rome, Florence, Naples, Majorca).

Has anyone done a med cruise in early March........what are your thoughts?

Well I guess I mean ...will it be too chilly to walk around outside without jackets comfortably? We are going with a couple of small children (4 & 6 years) - and I want to make sure that they would not be unpleasant for them to walk around with us outside. I figure that swimming on deck is probably out of the question....... ;)

Unless it's a really unusual Spring, you're going to need jackets. You might get away with light jackets, or you might even wish for gloves. Take lots of layers. The reward is that there shouldn't be an overload of other tourists, and the cruise price is probably great too.

I have not cruised to these areas during March but I have visited multiple times (with the exceptions of Majorca & Marseilles) in March/April and October/November. It is my favorite time to travel to Italy as the tourist throngs are not as intense as in the high season & it is not unbearably hot (I am uncomfortable if the temps are above 80F) like in the summer months.

I always layer as weather can be a bit unpredictable. However, I have never found temps to be unpleasantly cold. During my most recent trip to Italy (November), there were days in Rome where I found it too warm to wear my jacket during midday - but I did need it for mornings & evenings. Other days I wore a jacket all day long.

Have holidayed in Mallorca many times at Easter, and once at the end of February. Weather hugely unpredictable, and can be very windy. One week was non-stop rain! At the end of March, could be high 50s to low 70s on rare days. Expect somewhere in the 60s, but highly changeable each day. Italy may be a touch warmer.

  • 3 weeks later...

l went last March and it was jeans and t shirt weather most days during the cruise. Now Rome was different, it poured rain all three days we were there. You have a risk of it being cold or rainy but there are no crowds either.
