javafish Posted February 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2016 From John Heald facebook page For some months we had our DJs playing on the Lido deck. Many of you here told me how much you missed the sounds of live Caribbean/Calypso music and so our entertainment team here in Miami have started to place live music back on the open decks. We now have Caribbean/Calypso duos on: • Breeze • Conquest • Dream • Ecstasy • Freedom • Liberty • Magic • Pride • Valor • The Glory will receive a duo on February 27, 2016; • The Splendor will receive a duo on March 20, 2016. More ships will follow after that and I will keep you informed Live Caribbean music on Lido – do you enjoy that? Please answer yes or no cheers
beachbum53 Posted February 2, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2016 I've never been a fan of the D.J.'s that were brought in to replace the live music on the Lido deck. And, the solo guitarists that play and sing (that I've seen) when the D.J.'s are on break are a very poor substitute for a live band. I just hope these duos are better. I guess we'll find out when we're on the Conquest in May.

elklemi Posted February 2, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2016 On conquest January 9-16 and they had a really good steel drum duo from Trinidad on the Lido each day and you could tell everyone was really enjoying the music. Blueclypso played at least 2 sets each day on the Lido and last sea day played 3 sets. Really was great to hear, Will be on Sunshine in November and hope they have this then. wantocruisemore Posted February 2, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Yessss! Really looking forward to the live music. We normally steered away from Lido when the DJ was there.

RHilla619 Posted February 2, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Saw this on Heald's Facebook, good to hear as it adds a nice tropical touch to the ships. Going to imagine the bands/duos will be pretty good since the band they have playing at night in the casino, etc are usually pretty good.
17andacruiseaddict Posted February 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Very exciting. It will feel like cruising when I was younger again. Hot sun, the smell of coconutty sun tan lotion, nice breeze, tropical drink in hand, and calypso/caribbean music playing in the background. OMG I'm so excited for April! pe4all Posted February 2, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Hate to be a party-pooper, but the music (whether it be a "live" band" OR a dj) is always too loud for me!! :p I will spend my time in the quieter adult/serenity areas, but I am very happy for all those who missed the steel drum/calypso music and will be able to hear them again.:)

beachbum53 Posted February 2, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Maybe there should a band that can play a variety of music to suit everyone's tastes. Calypso, Big Band swing, Rock & Roll, Bluegrass, Classical, Country & Western, and Polka. Come to think of it, Polka music Calypso style could be kind of interesting.:D
ShakyBeef Posted February 2, 2016 #14 Share Posted February 2, 2016 This is definitely a step in the right direction. The live calypso band on Lido being downgraded to a DJ was one of the cutbacks that really bothered me. It will be very nice to have the live band back for our cruise on Pride this September. Thanks for fixing this, Carnival.
RaiderFaninNM Posted February 2, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 2, 2016 The duo's I have seen are kind of a hybrid between DJ and live bands.. They have recorded songs that they play along with and sing... The couple we had on the Dream last week was live and no recording, he played the steel drums, she sang about every other song, it was quite a surprise to see and hear. Plus they had an AWESOME violin duo playing in the Atrium, man they were so good.

shipbound2 Posted February 2, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2016 That will be cool since I'll be on the Breeze's 4/9/16 sailing, Island music sets the tone for a cruise. Gary
zqvol Posted February 2, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Great idea as long as they are itinerary appropriate. I don't want to see them in the Med, or in AK, or Australia, but in the Caribbean they are a great idea.
