sross6019 Posted February 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2016 I know the specialty restaurants are very subjectiive but reading poor reviews about Samba. Which would be better for a 60 birthday; Samba or Chops. Will be on the Allure.TIA
leaveitallbehind Posted February 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Keeping with your thoughts on subjectivity, IMO Chops. I concur with the comments on Samba - it was our least favorite specialty restaurant on Allure. Dinkachu Posted February 13, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2016 We dined at Chops twice and Sambas once a few weeks ago on Allure - Christmas 2015. We were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere, service and food at Chops - we went back on Christmas Day. We did upgrade the steaks the 2nd night, but it wasn't necessary as the filets on the menu were also good. Desserts are not quite as good as they have been in the past. Sambas, we wish we had skipped. It is in the Solarium and was warm and humid - smelled a bit like chlorine, but that could have just been our table. The salad bar was nice with a good variety. You no longer get plates of roasted veggies - you get bowls of french fries and a few bananas and a couple of sliced pieces of veggie. Service for the meat was dreadfully slow. We sat with empty plates and glasses for 15 -20 minutes at a time. Several of the meat selections were tough and salty. We did like the lamb chops and the filet, but they arrived very late in the evening when we were tired and the ladies were full. For a special occasion - I'd go with Chops. We did have a great meal at Giovanni's - but it is family style and less formal.
ExilePA Posted February 13, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2016 Samba was our least favorite as well. The food itself wasn't bad, but, the heat and humidity made it miserable. Nothing worse than trying to gorge yourself whole sweating!
Clarea Posted February 13, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) We actually prefer Giovanni's to either, but if it's between Chops and Samba, then I'd have to choose Chops. Edited February 13, 2016 by clarea
sross6019 Posted February 13, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted February 13, 2016 Don't really care for Giovanni's at night. Like their lunch. Also there will be 8 adults, so Chops it is. Thanks for everyone's input.

jonbgd Posted February 13, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2016 Since you have made your choice All I know is I paid the upsell charge for the aged porterhouse on our Allure cruise in Oct and it definantly wasn't worth the extra money:eek:
Clarea Posted February 13, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 13, 2016 Is lunch a different menu? Our experience has been that Izumi and Giovanni's have different lunch menus.
