luv2travelmm Posted February 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2016 We just received notification that Air Canada moved our flight up about an earlier to 11:45am on the day we arrive in Vancouver Canada Place port for disembarkation. Our Princess cruise is scheduled to arrive in Vancouver Canada Place port at 7:30am. Princess recommends not booking a flight until after Noon, and since it is an international flight, we're supposed to get there two hours before. I've read it could take up to one hour to get to the airport if there is traffic/accident. Given this we would probably need to disembark by 9am. Is this pushing it as far as time goes. Is Princess historically late in getting to Vancouver Canada Place port from an Alaska cruise? Air Canada has a 1:30pm flight, so if the 11:45am flight is too risky, I was going to car and see if Air Canada will switch it, since THEY moved the flight time earlier. What do you think? 98Charlie Posted February 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Personally I would be making the call to Air Canada about switching without a fee since they made the change. If they won't budge on a fee I might be willing to self disembark. You're really only talking 15 minutes from the Princess recommended time. Others may have a different opinion. But I don't care to end a cruise with self disembark and then push to get to the airport. JMHO Charlie
Rare geoherb Posted February 22, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2016 I did not have to pay a change fee when our original flight was canceled and we were rebooked to a flight that was too early to catch. The unfortunate thing was that the available flight was a lot later than we wanted.

What do you think? 11:45am is easily done, BUT since you'll get a free change and the next flight is only a little later I'd make the change. You would definitely have to make independent arrangements, as none of the cruiseline transfers will let you book if your flight is before noon or even 12:30pm. Not that you should ever use their transfers here anyway, a limo is better value for a couple they're so overpriced!
Colo Cruiser Posted February 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) If there is a delay you won't make the flight. Best to take the 1:30 flight. Don't do a transfer, take a cab. Edited February 22, 2016 by Colo Cruiser
cruiseryyc Posted February 22, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2016 As others have said, Air Canada should not charge you as they changed the flight time; go for the 1:30 flight.

Rare Keith1010 Posted February 22, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 22, 2016 I would go with the later flight to be on the safe side. Keith
98Charlie Posted February 22, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Thanks everyone for your advice. I was able to make the change for the 1:30pm flight! Congrats! Now you get to have a leisurely breakfast, stroll off the ship, wend your way to the airport, grab a bite before the flight and relax. Enjoy Alaska!! That depends on if you have a Princess transfer to the airport. If you do, I would cancel it and make arrangements with Super Shuttle to get you to the airport. You must self disembark to get down to the shuttle around 9:00 am. It's feasible as we have done it before a few times. Not because of a flight change but because of the flight we booked. It's about a 30 minute ride to the airport (depending on traffic). But you will make it if you don't dilly dallie around.
Astro Flyer Posted February 22, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Thanks everyone for your advice. I was able to make the change for the 1:30pm flight! That's great! When going from the airport to the cruise ship terminal we used their great Skytrain which may be another option for you to consider to get to the airport. We had 2 bags each (carry on & larger) and we could walk the couple of blocks to Canada Place & at the airport it was across from the terminal. This may not be a good option for everyone however it worked just fine for us. http://www.vancouver-travel-tips.com/vancouver-airport-skytrain.html http://www.translink.ca/ Edited February 22, 2016 by Astro Flyer

Rare Cruise Raider Posted February 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Thanks everyone for your advice. I was able to make the change for the 1:30pm flight! Good move! While you could probably make the earlier flight, why chance not everything going just right??
