We already have the drink package and specialty restaurant package and have paid the service charge (tips) for them. Once we paid the $13.50 per person per day service/gratuities fee is there any other gratuities that would need to be paid.

 

Also any other venues that I would have to pay for ? such as sushi bar, ice cream stuff like that..

There are always opportunities to separate your from your money! Gambling, Bingo, shops, photos... the ability to spend more is endless! There is nothing that is REQUIRED of you to buy, however...

You specifically ask about gratuities....so yes

 

You will have the opportunity to give your cabin steward an extra cash tip if you choose

 

Sushi bar is not included in sdp

 

And osheehans has a pay ice cream dessert menu

 

If Carlos bake shop is still around that is not free

 

Nor is the ice bar

 

Or bingo

 

Nor tips should you get a spa treatment

 

Nor tips for the kids club if you use them

 

 

 

Or any other nonsense they try to sell you

I havent a clue. We only used it maybe 2 days total in our years cruising

 

I would think you tip the counselor (s) in your kids age group

 

Or just the one who worked closely with your kid but honestly they are not "real" crew and are more than likely well educated early childhood specialists so depending on if you use them alot or a little I would just ask the club director what they feel is best

 

Alternately if I used the place maybe a total of an hour here and there I might not tip at all

We had the beverage package and if you order a cocktail while in the ports, you get charged the tax on each cocktail ordered. I am seeing a tax charge on my statement that show taxes while in NYC and in Port Canaveral. I am not seeing anywhile in the Bahamas so it might only be the US ports...but someone can correct me if wrong.

It depends on local legistlation, definitely not only an US thing. Bahamas charge sales tax too nowadays.

There is nothing charged while on Great Stirrup Cay so the only port left to find out about is Nassau. I do not think I had anything while in port so I can ask my siblings if they saw anything extra on their bill while there.

As I already said, Bahamas also charge sales tax nowadays. That applies to GSC too (just was there in January).

I always tip the waiter, assistant waiter and sommelier about $25 for a 7 day cruise, room attendants about $20 and tip servers or bartenders $1 each time I get a drink. Not required but I know that many people do the same!

Others have covered the extra charge things like sushi and various upcharge things like Carlos Bakery (if it is still on board). I don't believe NCL includes specialty coffee in their drink package, so if you get a specialty coffee then you would pay the 18% on it.

 

There is free soft serve ice cream in the buffet area nearly 24/7, and free hard / scoop ice cream at a food station in the buffet during select hours. Coffee, tea and some flavored drinks are always available for free too.

 

There are some differences between what is included on different cruise lines, so maybe asking what is included would be helpful too.

I was there on 2/23/16 and there were no taxes charged to our cocktails. I know I ordered a few pina coladas and there was nothing on my bill. I wonder why?!

My siblings were not either.

 

I guess we need to find out about Bermuda! For what it is worth, my taxes added up to about 6 dollars. Still a good deal when the package is complimentary.

Bermuda currently has no sales tax. This is due to change next year (2017, but it looks like a tax on services, not goods). Anyway for the time being there should be no additional tax if you buy anything on board (or on land) while the ship is docked in Bermuda.

Have you cruised on NCL in the last 10 or 15 years?

 

With Freestyle Dining you're likely to have different wait staff every night, so which waiter and assistant are you tipping at the end of the cruise? You could tip every day if you want, but waiting until the end of the cruise doesn't work very well.

 

Also I don't remember seeing any sommeliers on NCL in a long, long time.

Things we paid for:

 

sushi at Wasabi

gelato at Dolce

pastries at Carlo's

lattes at the Atrium Cafe

mini bowling - $5.00

mini games by O'Sheehan's - $1.00-$5.00

ice cream sundae at O'Sheehan's - $4.80 with gratuity. The thing is humongous. Note, there is free ice cream in the buffet every night but O'Sheehan's is 24 hours and I had my sundae at 3am.

 

no tax on anything at GSC or Nassau

 

depending on service and attentiveness, I usually tip the room steward between $50-$125 for the week. I always start off on the first day with $20 to get the ball rolling. I'm low maintenance but need my ice bucket filled along with clean towels daily.

 

I don't tip any other waitstaff because they change and I assume it's coming out of the $13.50 daily charge. I did tip the young lady at the Atrium Cafe extra because she was super sweet and nice and I really enjoyed getting lattes from her.

The tax is calculated based on the number of passenger cabins on a ship and the number of nights during which the ship is docked or anchored in Bermuda.

 

The rates vary by the time of the year. Here are the current rates for Bermuda Passenger Cabin Tax per cabin and per night:

May 1 to August 31: $14.00

 

September 1 to October 31: $10.00

 

November 1 to April 30: Nil for non listed ships

 

November 1 to April 30: $10.00 for Schedule 2 ships

 

The tax needs to be paid out by the cruise line to Bermuda Tax Commissioner within 7 days of departure.
