Thebosn1 Posted March 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2016 Has anyone had a situation where they booked cabin for two and then close to sailing one person can't go? What happens if one person just doesn't show up? Has anyone ever done this? I want the same cabin, would pay the gratuities and stuff, the second person would just not be there. I don't plan on cancelling them, just may have to go alone. If anyone has done this, I would love to know how it worked out. Thanks.

If you do a search or browse older threads, you will see many threads about cabin companions cancelling at the last minute.
Delawarealan Posted March 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 17, 2016 Just do a no-show. That happened to me 2 years ago when the mother-in-law of someone in my party died the week before the cruise. You'll only have to pay taxes and gratuities on the person who showed up. Delawarealan
SadieN Posted March 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 17, 2016 Can change a pax for $50 up to day of sailing. Did this in November. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Just let the other person be a no-show the day of the cruise or otherwise Carnival will charge you a 100% single supplement in addition to the other passenger losing their fare. And yes, I have experience with this. Enjoy your solo cruise!
poison7fl Posted March 17, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 17, 2016 No worries, just show up and tell them at check on that the other party is not coming. Simple, I did it and they did not care. You will automatically be charged for the tips for both, but if you choose, you can even adjust them to one set of tips. You already paid everything else, so you won't incur any other charges. I did it on my divorce cruise, and I had a great time.
RuthlessBoss Posted March 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 17, 2016 The taxes and port fees will be refunded to whatever credit card it was charged to. No gratuities will be charged for the missing person.
cb at sea Posted March 17, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 17, 2016 Frankly...they don't care if neither of you show up! They've got their money...at that point, it's non-refundable...so it's NOT a problem! Let them be a "no-show"...

Happened when my dad got sick and mom stayed with him. We forfeited his fare and I used hers as the Single supplement. Unfortunately, I also forfeited the use of their credit card for the sign and sail card and l had to use my casino Monday to apply to my account I no longer see carnival from my condo front porch :(
Rare lazydayz Posted March 17, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 17, 2016 Agree with the above advice. This happened once when my mom could not go. I called Carnival and they told me if I cancelled her, they would charge a single supplement to the other person in the cabin. Instead, she was a no show and we were refunded her taxes and port fees and were not required to pay her gratuities. If you don't have travel insurance, and don't want to substitute anyone else, this is the way to go if you are past final payment.

I did it on my divorce cruise, and I had a great time. In my experience with this situation, there was no need to adjust tips. Carnival only charged tips for one person after one person was a no-show. So maybe just check this once onboard.....

You do not have to pay the gratuities or taxes, or port charges for the person who does not show up, they are refunded.

Muumuu Posted March 20, 2016 #15 Share Posted March 20, 2016 Something to consider. When you cancell a passenger Carnival has the right to move you to another cabin. We dropped one of three booked and we were moved. To a unacceptable one!
wikoffclan Posted March 13, 2020 #16 Share Posted March 13, 2020 So I can get a REALLY good price for a cruise using my son's Casino rate. But he "might not be able to go". Would they honor the cheap fare if he's a no show? Or would they "adjust" the fare when I show up solo? Any info or advice appreciated.
beshears Posted March 13, 2020 #17 Share Posted March 13, 2020 All I can say is when I went to cancel (my manager area) something that I had booked through Carnival (I had not notified Carnival that my friend was not going, as I was going to have it as a "no show"), it would not let me cancel out. I called Carnival, and because my friends name was on the itinerary, etc. and booked in my room, and I had not cancelled her out, it would not let me delete what I had booked, even though I had booked it just for me. So thus, the Carnival rep, cancelled her name out, and because I had paid for it, I got back the port charges, taxes, etc. to my credit card, but lost the rest of the money that paid for her cruise. This is a scenario I have been trying to get an answer to as well, except it is a party of 3 and the possible no show passanger is the person whom the Casino rate is applied to. That question needs to be addressed by the Casino Department, not the general call center. The booking offer clearly states the targeted person must sail. Yes, they can refuse boarding should they choose. Casino offers are different from regular offers.

I didn't end up booking the offer and that cruise was canceled anyway. I've been looking for a definitive answer and you found it for me. Much appreciated.
