Demonyte Posted March 24, 2016 #27 Share Posted March 24, 2016 (edited) Just because people seem to not read posts throughly here, for my own amusement I'll repeat myself: This SHOCKING price jump happened already almost six months ago. Jenjer Posted March 24, 2016 #28 Share Posted March 24, 2016 The only think shocking is you think its "Shocking".....annoying maybe but defiantly not shocking. Its life and if your company pays for it since they can not have you out of reach for 7 days don't worry about it.
Sizzlechest Posted March 24, 2016 #29 Share Posted March 24, 2016 GAS PRICES DOWN $1.70 in three years and cruise prices went UP.THANKS DEL RIO[emoji35] Fixed that for you.
ThirstyFrog203 Posted March 24, 2016 #30 Share Posted March 24, 2016 1) Why does this shock you? Prices on everything go up. 2) Who cares? It is the freaking internet. This is a cruise! No one on facebook is going to die if you do not check in every day with some lame picture of the drink you just ordered, the cute boy (or maybe girl, I don't know) you just saw, or the free cigarettes that the casino just gave you. Truthfully they ought to charge more than that to weed out the people who don't really need to be on line and leave the limited bandwidth to those who actually actually have a need and not just a want. 3) Some people will always find something to complain about. If cruising upsets someone this much maybe they ought to choose a different vacation option! seriously, anyone who pays this ridiculous price is insanely over dependent on the internet. I thought about it. Saw the 29.99 as reasonable... for the ENTIRE cruise, not one day. That's crazy. It's not like a ship employee has to constantly pedal a bike to keep the internet going.... just disconnect and if you really need your social media, connect to wifi at ports. galensgrl Posted March 24, 2016 #31 Share Posted March 24, 2016 (edited) I have found that internet connection on any ship seems spotty and unreliable. As addicted to the internet as I can be at home, I can't see paying for it as entertainment on a ship but that's just my opinion. It seems more time is spent waiting to connect and moving from one page to another, waiting for emails to download, etc. It's not NCL's or any cruise lines fault, it's just the nature of using the internet while out to sea. If you need it for work, I feel for you in regards to time spent just connecting and navigating. If your company wants you to work and use the internet, I would say the high cost of doing business on a ship is really their problem. They shouldn't b**ch at you for something they need and you have no control over. Edited March 24, 2016 by galensgrl
DMH15 Posted March 24, 2016 #32 Share Posted March 24, 2016 Well let me be the first: Unless you need it for work purposes why does anyone need to be connected? What happened to the days when we took vacation to get away? Our first 3 or 4 cruises we didn't even have TVs in the cabin. Ok. I will bite. Took my niece on 18th birthday and HS grad cruise 1 week on Jewel. All her teachers were fine with it. She kept in touch and did studies online. With great scenery. Sissaaaaaa Posted March 24, 2016 #33 Share Posted March 24, 2016 Unlimited internet is now $29.99 a day, it was $24.99 in January.Ok DelFeo cheerleaders, tell me how this is just a wonderful thing and how it benefits everyone. Can't wait to see the responses from people on the internet about how other people should disconnect from the net for a week. That is ridiculous! It should be free, or minimal. Sotermarler Posted March 24, 2016 #35 Share Posted March 24, 2016 As a new cruiser I was shocked that wifi wasn't free or close to it. $29.99 a day is unreasonable. I guess it frees up bandwidth for folks who really need it though. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
SPB in da RVA Posted March 24, 2016 #36 Share Posted March 24, 2016 gas prices up 500% since the 60s.Thanks del rio[emoji35] fixed that for you. fixed that for you. See how silly that game is?
Sissaaaaaa Posted March 24, 2016 #37 Share Posted March 24, 2016 (edited) People that have an issue with the 18 percent on the UBP, should take the internet minutes as their perk - thus, two issues solved in one fast swoop. I think that's a little silly. The prices for the cruise itself is the same no matter which perk you chose. The 18% gratuity is (I think) $99 per person for a 7-night cruise? So, essentially, you are drinking for a week on a cruise for $99, whether it's soda, juices, or alcohol. Even if you have one soda during the day, and one glass of wine with dinner each night, it has paid for itself ... no? SPB in da RVA Posted March 24, 2016 #39 Share Posted March 24, 2016 That is ridiculous! It should be free, or minimal. Why should people who do not want to be on line subsidize those who do? That price is for unlimited daily access. It is the most expensive option available. Do not pay it if you do not need to be on line 24/7.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app A ship is not a land based hotel where internet is free and or cheap and supplied by a router and a cable wire. You are in the middle of the ocean connecting to the internet by a satellite and satellite time is not cheap. Could they charge less, sure, but with so many people NEEDING to be connected at all times why not take advantage of a captive audience. They are in business to make money. Cruising even with all the add on items is still so so much cheaper then it was 20 years ago.

If one thinks the price is too high, then don't purchase it or you can always pick it as your perk...then it is free.

Sissaaaaaa Posted March 24, 2016 #45 Share Posted March 24, 2016 Cruising even with all the add on items is still so so much cheaper then it was 20 years ago. In 1995, we paid over $5,000 for two of us in a port hole cabin on the Majesty of the Seas! Granted, it was WAY more upscale than today's cruises, but yes, much more expensive. ColinIllinois Posted March 24, 2016 #46 Share Posted March 24, 2016 NCL may have just passed along higher prices from the contractor on board who runs the internet programs.
Sizzlechest Posted March 24, 2016 #47 Share Posted March 24, 2016 fixed that for you. See how silly that game is? Did you adjust for inflation? Gas prices were higher in the 60's than now. Yes, that's how bad we're getting screwed.
luvtheships Posted March 24, 2016 #48 Share Posted March 24, 2016 That is ridiculous! It should be free, or minimal. Well they are giving 250 minutes as I free perk and I took it.....but now it ofcourse.... They will do everything in their power to reduce connectivity speed Otoh pax seem to gravitate to the free ubp and sdp and ignore the free wifi... That's a good thing in my book

Idk.....33 cents a gallon in early 1974 wasnt so bad if I recall $1.85 minimum wage and for an hour and a half of work I could fill up my Corolla Later on the odd/even plate thing was a pita and yes gas had increased oh and then there were the 4am gas lineups....circa 1978/79 I believe Hey I was in college ....what the heck lol Edited March 24, 2016 by luvtheships
Warm Breezes Posted March 24, 2016 #50 Share Posted March 24, 2016 Well let me be the first: Unless you need it for work purposes why does anyone need to be connected? What happened to the days when we took vacation to get away? Our first 3 or 4 cruises we didn't even have TVs in the cabin. I disconnect from work but I don't disconnect from family when I am on a cruise. Especially when leaving teenagers at home. We did purchase it for my son on the last cruise they went on with us since his sister brought a friend and he would rather have the access than bring a friend along (it also allowed DD's friend to keep in touch with her parents). DS ended up applying for and receiving an internship while we were cruising made possible by him having that internet access.
