Does anyone know Broome and knows if there is a shuttle bus at port to take to the town sites tks

Yes . They run a shuttle. It was about 10 minutes from the landing and they dropped us off at the Information Centre.. The bus to Cable Beach was just over the road.

You could easily max your credit card on the pearls. Just about every shop is a pearl shop:D

On our port stop at Broome the shuttle bus dropped us off in the driveway of a hotel or something, right in the heart of the old township, next to the bus stop for Town Beach. The bus to Cable Beach left from a street behind that, Dampier Terrace, accessed through an arcade. The township is quite small so everything is an easy walk from where you're dropped. Watch out for low flying aircraft at one end of the town - the airport runway starts just off the end of Short Street.

Geraldton is also quite small. Most of the interesting stuff is on the flat and easy to walk to, but the memorial is up the top of the hill. The locals run a HoHo bus, $5, which loops around all the sights, including the memorial.

We were at the cafe at the corner of Short St when we noticed the first plane going over. I thought it was going to crash into the roof of the cafe.

Later on, as we left the cafe through the Short St entrance, a small plane came in to land. I swear it only just missed the trees outside the cafe.

For both Broome and Geraldton be aware that ships often miss these ports in strong winds. We were able to get into Broome but not Geraldton.

Weather in Broome in September is hot. Geraldton is much milder..

As mentioned there are shuttle buses into town. Similar to Picton, you are not able to walk off. Great little Museum a short bus ride from town.

Geraldton is known as the windsurfing capital of WA because of the winds. But on four top end cruises we have made it ashore each time although apparently many do not.

Lovely, smallish town with some attractions and beautiful turquoise seas.

We have done a ship's tour to Greennough - historic village and wildlife park - it was far too hot to enjoy on the day we were there in Nov.

Last time we paid the local taxi $40 for 2 to do a town and beach tour for almost an hour with commentary. Taxis are usually in the jetty area.

The HMAS Sydney memorial is well worth visiting - on the top of the hill. When we were there, volunteers were taking groups around with plenty of info.

Follow the flat boardwalk to the right from the tender wharf to the museum.

Join a guided group, heaps of fascinating history - especially the Batavia shipwreck and very early exploration, well before Capt. Cook. (Free)

There are, I believe sightseeing flights available to the local islands, Albrolhos. Simply stunning, I've heard.

Or just stroll around, flat walking from the jetty where the tenders go - unless you visit the memorial on the hill.

Don't forget to look for the seals sunbaking on the rocks to the breakwall when on the tenders.

We had a day in Geraldton. Hire a car and took a drive to Greenough. It was a pleasant trip and we arrived before the organised tour from the ship. I liked it as I got some good photo's. Also had a look at the leaning trees. We then went back to town and had a look through war memorial. All up it cost about AU$90 for two. Have been using some of the images in competitions so it was all good.

Thanks to all the people who responded to my query. It looks as if we will have a good time. (If the winds allow us). As it is in September it shouldn't be too hot for us as we are from the north. We are not frequent cruisers but went around NZ last year and didn't complete because of weather.

cheers
